Spent the day at Niagara Dyno Services to better understand how to tune the Holley ecu. Ended up discovering something interesting.

Keep up the great videos! I've been going through woes with my 5.3 Turbo build and its great to know that we're not alone lol. You're realistic portrayal of average joe's building these monsters is inspiring, and I'm so happy that I came across your channel (I've been following for about a year now). I'm not too far from you, near London, I'm sure one of these days we'll catch up, maybe Cayuga? Cheers

Cam swap is where I’d go. I’m building my 71 Riviera with small twins and camming it for pulling tree stumps because it’s so heavy. I believe yours is as well.

Honestly, I don't think your original cam choice is the issue. The engine should be making much more than 250whp with an aftermarket cam as it is. 250whp is right around what a stock GMT800 5.3 dynos at... 6.2 LS in my truck dyno'd 395whp with a BTR stage 1 and longtubes, just for comparison Need to degree the cam to verify it's installed as intended, verify base timing, bubble test cold side/intake, compression and leakdown tests, verify proper pushrod length as well. GM hot cam has -1 degree of overlap, which helps with driveability on a stock converter. Turbos could spool a bit quicker with some positive overlap, essentially bleeding intake charge into the exhaust, but then could cause back pressure issues at higher boost levels.

Thanks for the info. We definitely could do more tests, and a different cam my not make as big of an impact as we’re hoping, but it’ll be fun to find out. A little background on this motor. About 10 rears ago when I cammed it and tossed it in, it made 320whp with a 4l60 behind it. I would expect the th400 it has now and a full exhaust with two turbos acting as a bit of a restriction to play a roll in the lower number. 272whp was our best run this time. Two years ago I had a compression and leak down test done when I had it dynoed elsewhere. Everything checked out fine. And it made 560whp on that dyno. Honestly I feel like my turbos are probably oversized. It’s making lots of boost, but super late to the party. I’m kinda treating this car as my guinea pig. Try different things and have some fun with it. Thanks for the help, you seem to know your stuff. I’m always open to helpful information.

@@averagedadsgarage I'm looking forward to seeing your improved results! The spooling issue could be a combination of so many things. It's difficult to nail it down to one single problem. Check out SPPTV on RU-vid. They're based in Winnipeg. One of the guys has a Nova with a 5.3 and box stock twin Borg S366s. Has no issues spooling them, which leads me to believe it's not your cam or turbo choice (his hotsides are larger on a smaller engine). Best of luck!

What cam did you order? I bought a BTR stage 2 but I’m running single 80mm VS racing turbo. Crazy that the converter is flashing that high. What stall you running?

Also ordered a BTR stage 2. The converter has a 3500 stall.
