Great vid! Longtime viewer! Ive been street tuning my sons .020” over Vitara/Speedfactory no-notch long-rod D16Y8 setup. His car is a 99 EK4DRLX. It has an old skool og GreddY sohc turbo kit!…i had the turbo rebuilt. It’s got a comp 105300 camshaft, BC springs/retainers, a block guard, arp head studs, Kteller DwnPipe, S300V3, Flexfuel, MAC valve. Ethanol usually runs around E67. Boost around 12psi. Inefficient exhaust manifolds and turbine housings can kill your top end. I’ve been fighting a similar issue with my sons Greddy setup. It utilizes a Mitsubishi TD05H-15G turbocharger that has a very restrictive wastegate housing to clear the a/c compressor. The car feels great all the way to about 6,800rpm then just goes flat. It still “pulls” but with less enthusiasm. Air fuels look great; mid 11s. Right now the 12psi ignition timing = 11.5*@6K, 12.5*@6.5K, 14.25*@7K. Seems conservative to me. Anymore timing and it’ll try to push coolant. Cam gear changes don’t seem to help either. I’m almost positive that I’ve run into that exhaust “wall”. Time to upgrade! Side note: my son came home from the hospital almost 20yrs ago in the backseat of his mom’s boosted EG 4DR D16Z6 AUTOMATIC! He and his sister rode in the back of that car for the first ~ 7yrs of their lives! He’s now driving around in his own EK4DR with that exact same turbo kit!
@@tayvonrose2528 Probably everything you mentioned. Cast log manifolds are the worse. Turbine a/r under ~.63 will also limit top end power. And you can’t go wrong with a larger downpipe.
Hey great video Hunter thank you for the ignition tuning tips you don't have to give every detail but you drop some golden nuggets of information every time you talk about it 💪😎
These kinda videos are always so good. Thankbyou for going over timing maps again. Idk why tuners never wanna review the timing maps. I know every engine is different but there's obviously a basis where you can start along which direction to take for whatever engine.
Much respect for you taking the time to walk thru those maps with everyone. This will be a great comparison for ppl to see the difference between cheap slapped together stuff vs a properly laid out kit. Would also be interesting to see the Garrett against a VS on the new setup. Your absolutely correct, that setup would be a good lil street ripper but after you had and seen the capability of better setup it's just not gonna excite you. Thanks for sharing.
I like both kinds of videos. The dyno and this. The way you tune is super efficient and love seeing it in action. Also like seeing customer cars too. Only thing I would add back is some more street stuff. Maybe 2 or 3 a month. Nothin crazy. But those got super huge view counts
I seriously appreciate these videos man I’m almost done with my b20 turbo CRV build and I’m gonna be tuning it myself and your videos just help soooo much man like I know how you say you think there long winded in the video but not at all man, all the stuff your saying is helpful and withought you I garentee my car wouldn’t have a fighting chance I could watch your hondata Smanager tuning videos for hrs 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Love these detailed tuning videos! This little EF is bout to be a ripper! I have a bit of road rage myself and hate being tail gated. Also the Facebook page for selling parts would be a killer idea and would make you more money! Keep kickin ass Hunter! 🤘
So happy to see the progress on the EF! Keep killing it bro. Can’t believe how close your street tune was and I think it that video you estimated 250hp just from driving it. Those cams are probably worse than stock,no?
Definitely loved the ignition part indeed that's the next thing I really need to learn more about definitely 1up for that would like see more of in future if you feel like it
I totally agree about end of the video I'm in Colorado and that shit happens here all the time people are absolute idiots in the snow it's gotten so much worse in last few years. Inconsiderate no reguard for others on the road idk but yeah seen ag least 10 crashes in last month half 2 of which happend in fron and behind me. Anyway great content Hunter keep up your videos have definitely helped me so much within last year or more from fuel pump to the lsd instal in my trans to wideband and the HTS introduction video to get mr tuning and now tuning my car and finished my f20b stroker build and its tuned somewhat good need dyno but here I am year or so later tuning my shit thanks you and maybe few others. But anyway I think for sale page be great idea keep it up wish I was closer so can have you dyno my turbo build been working in for over 4 years think you'd like it!
With winter coming, you're less likely to be out in the sun. Start taking some vitamin D. It'll help with your mood and make you just feel a ton better. Winter is depressing enough but it's something small you can do everyday to help out. You can also buy like a vitamin D lamp too for at home when you're chilling watching TV or whatever. That out of the way. I wanted to ask, is your dyno able to do steady state? If not, is that something you wish you had as a tuner? I've heard it is a really good tool for timing if you're also using an audio knock monitor. I've never tuned but I'm extremely interested in it and want to learn everything about it.
Dude your videos are so helpful ! No one else explains anything about a basic starting point for for igntion timing on s300. Obviously timing is very different with ethanol but like a past video you put 26 degrees when you start getting into boost then taper it out as the boost builds. If it was pump gas would a good place to start be 28 degrees? I know there are tons of variables between builds and also that ignition tuning should mainly be done on a dyno to actually see whats happening but im curious where the best conservative starting point is for a turbo honda on pump when setting up a base map to drive around on till you hit the dyno.
Its bubba with the slow GSR all motor...thats exactly what my gsr was doing... It wasnt all the time either..we found broken pins on the data port connection to the board..soldered them right to the board with single pieces of wire.. never had an issue again
if not valve float maybe it’s just choking on the log manifold? it did spit a bunch of black smoke out so maybe a fuel issue? i’m not sure you’re the tuner not me, but i definitely enjoy watching you diagnose and run through the car!
Your message at the end of video. Its cool to see u talking about this. Your a entertainer your video gets out to all kinds of audiences. Using your power to try to make it safer is really admirable and respectful. Also i watch alot of young static he seems to post videos when i wake up :). Hearing u speak positive about him and his sidekick leo is also admirable. Good video, liked it too
Im runnung 13-14 timing at 7 psi on my 2007 Honda Civic base model R18 engine. Same timing as a basemap on hondata for turbo. Runs well. Would you reccomend going more boost same timing or same boost and more timing?
It's a vw scirocco 85ish radiator, I have the same one 😂, definitely need more video's like this, any suggestions on intercoolers for EF civics, I'm in a CRX extremely happy with my build and how it is coming out but run the same intercooler bc I can't get anything else to fit
What about on chump gas timing 2 deg lower ? To start I have conservative now but feel like I can give it some more. I’m gonna be getting some of your injectors and going over to e soon but until then
Hunter, when your running into this problem where you got a cam too big on a vtec engine. Give it a try just running the engine out of vtec for the whole range. Obviously we want vtec to work. But if the extra air is hurting the performance, give it a try without it until you can fix the back pressure problem. We notice on your graph raising the vtec higher and higher keeps increasing the efficiency of the engine.
I think the larger bore size on an LS compared to the smaller diameter on a b series has a lot to do with the timing the engine desires... Flame has more room to travel
Im always learning something by watching your videos!!! My lsvtec turbo started pushing out coolant @19 psi. Do you think i can get by with just a new headgasket? Its a je pro seal headgasket that's in it.
Where you located in Wisconsin? I’m in Milwaukee and trying to find someone to retune my setup. Plugged in to the laptop and the file for my tune got corrupted and I have no back up.
I can not stand ppl who tailgate!! I have a 30” x 25” decal on the back of my Ranger tailgate that says “GET OFF MY ASS” I’ve seen another good decal that said “you should have left earlier.” lol I installed 4 large train horns concealed under the rear bumper cover from Hornblasters in my project Civic. Compressor and the tank are under the left side of the car. You don’t know it’s there. 149 db and yes, it sounds exactly like a train. Go ahead, cut me off MFr. This shit scares ppl when they are ready to hear them.
