Remember in Ep I designed aluminum mounts for my Dynon Avionics servo? I made them from thin material just to test the design. The design worked, so I ordered .050 aluminum to make the 'real' mounts. Then I started thinking, "I wonder if Dynon makes a servo mount?"
Yes they do!
So I ordered two Dynon RV-6 servo mounts since they were exactly what I needed. Why make my own when Dynon has them pre-made??
I'm still working on my autopilot installation, and I'm still working on wiring. This video is a short update on all of that...

Great stuff! In the robotics world the practice is, 1. Mechanical cnnections first...they don't flex 2. Hydraulics/Pneumatics next ... they leak. 3. Electrcal last...its flexible and doesn't have dimensional constraint....usually. On the harness building... 1 Start where the space is tight. 2. Run longer than needed and DO NOT TERMINATE (cut strip crimp or solder) 3. Label everything at all attachments 4. Tidy makes easy ... route for shortest travel and least risk of damage 5. Gather thee roses, while yee may... use expando mesh sleeves or spiral wrap to protect and secure conductors. 6. Terminate ... with all conductors in the harness branch reaching their attachments, Cut, Strip and Crimp/Solder. This tends to move things along with less head scratching. Your neighbor over at KVLL

Yes, I was about to say this. I do a lot of custom controls and wiring, that’s how it’s done. You can get all your routing and grouping done before you terminate anything, and you’ll have the ability to make it look how you want. As far as cutting those other cables so they aren’t bundled, do it! You can get any connector or terminal to make it the proper length. Places like mouser and digikey will have what you need.

Great idea on the servo mounts, saves us more inexperienced builders time and $. Can you show a video how you install the RV6 mounts for the elevators, which are composed of cables, etc.

I really appreciate the explanation you give as you decide what "goes next" and how best to accomplish that. Your "out loud" thinking will be a big help to others watching your build and doing their own. (We've got more snow across the lake in Owen Sound than you do there.)

Being OCD has its drawbacks. But it makes for a great finished product. I am that way too. Nice work!

Nice job, mind you, you make it all look so easy, I'm enjoying my virtual build, look forward to the big day when you roll it out and fly it away

Me too! I can’t wait to fly this beast!

I agree that the placement decisions can take a lot of time. Since wiring is the most flexible as compared to mechanical cables, fuel lines and such, I am thinking it best to do most of the firewall forward installation before finalizing the electrical components on and behind the firewall.

I would like to strongly recommend that you install the SV-BATT-320 with your Dynon system. I have the same system in my aircraft & LOVE it. My experience is that if the temperature is low & the aircraft has been sitting for a while then the Dynon system can flicker on & off & be temperamental until the main battery is up to charge. Since installing the Dynon spare batteries this has removed my issues & left me more confident that I won’t lose my instruments on take off or in early flight. I’m sure you’ve probably thought of that already, but just thought I’d mention it 😊👍🏼

I agree-I already have two of them installed.

Coming along nicely. I think your on the right track sorting out the throttles before going much further on the other systems. Start with the systems that are unforgiving in their placement and everything else will fall into (the remaining) place(s). If all else fails with the throttles, there's always the Airbus / F16 fly by wire option. ;-)

Be sure and let us know what Zenith says about the dual Throttle, the system you described would be easier than the way im trying to route two separate cables

Great, detailed video! Do you have to have that specific model of DYMO labelmaker to print on heat shrink or does the heat shrink cartridge work with any of their labelmakers?
@n206ja
@n206ja 2 года назад
Oops - just found the answer to my own question! I looked up the cartridge and apparently it works with several models DYMO "Rhino" labelmakers. I have a DYMO "Labelmanager 160" that normally uses D1 cartridges, but in the Q&A on Amazon it says the heat shrink cartridge will work with the 160, "but the printheads weren't designed for it" and "not recommended for long-term use." Since most of my wiring is already labelled, sounds like I could "get away with it" for the occasional label in the future!

Would it hurt anything to put a bend it a bow in the servo pushrod so it can clear the cable? I’ve seen other similar rods with all kinds of kinks and bends with no issues.

When you are using the DYMO heat shrink machine does it print shrink tube small enough that it’s tight on the wire (18/20/22) once it’s done being heated, or do you find it’s a little loose? Thanks Mark.

The smallest I’ve used it on is 20AWG. It works great on there and does not slide around. If you want to reposition it though, you can take your fingernail and slide it on the wire.

Since you have built a Cruzer do you think the RV-6 mounting brackets would work on it? Your videos make this all seem doable! Thanks!
@KitplaneEnthusiast
@KitplaneEnthusiast 2 года назад
It really would depend on how you're going to mount your servo. I haven't installed an autopilot in my Cruzer so I'm not sure exactly how a servo would get mounted.

Why not use a longer bolt and connect the servo rod to the same bolt as the aileron push rod.
@KitplaneEnthusiast
@KitplaneEnthusiast 2 года назад
Because the rod ends are two different sizes. One requires a 3/16” bolt and the other a 1/4” bolt.
@n206ja
@n206ja 2 года назад
@@KitplaneEnthusiast Perhaps you could get a new rod end with the same hole size as the existing bolt on the flaperon bell crank?

Were you able to mount the dual throttle? Does Zenith sell a kit?

I decided to not use dual throttles. I also removed the brakes from the passenger side.

Why not a single throttle in the middle?
