@@MiracleMAX I looked a little closer at the model of my Dyson today, in the small print it says DC20. I thought it was a DC08 because I compared it to the one you stripped and rebuilt and which I must say both are very similar. I need a pair of carbon brushes and it looks like they actually might be different so it's a good thing I checked. I learnt from you that the model is printed on the sticker but it's very small and can be overlooked. On eBay $12.42 so I'm in, will order shortly. One brush had about 12 mm sticking through, other about 2mm. Checked motor, something else I learnt from you and appears to be OK Thanks for your help cobber. I'm Australian too.

@@MiracleMAX I fitted new carbon brushes to Dyson DC20. Connected motor to mains power and run motor-only on bench-top. It starts, runs at full RPM but sparks like hell and within two seconds flames were rising from carbon brushes. Bearings appear OK but I am going to strip motor next. I did clean commutator with fine emery before and it appeared to me to be OK. Have you got any ideas what might be wrong?

@@archtitus3412 Hey Arch Titus, I hope you had a extinguisher handy! When you cleaned the commutator, did you clean out between the segments? Perhaps some of the copper that you sanded of may be jammed between the segments. Were the carbon brushes cheap or quality? Perhaps the brush wire is wrapped around the spring or contacting something it shouldn't. I hope you are able to get it sorted.

Hey Magda Korthals , Welcome to the channel. Are you talking about a 'turbo head', which is a motorised head or just a brush head? Here is a video I found by searching Dyson DC08 Turbine Head. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5fCm5A4G3Xg.html&ab_channel=RussellPlatten This might not be the exact model, but may give you the guidance you need. I'm sorry I don't have a video on disassembly of the brush head, but I can walk you through the process. I don't have a turbo head attachment, so I can only help you with the basic one. If you turn the brush head assembly on it's back you will see 2/ T15 Torx screws that need to be removed. I just did that on ours to help you out and it looks like that is all that is needed to get to any dust or hair that may be caught in that area. I don't think much else will be accomplished by pulling it apart any further. I hope that helps MiracleMAX
