Hi Ilja, thank you greatly for posting. The showing of how to remove the cover / where the tabs were was key for me - very helpful. In my case, over time one of the wires came loose off the back of the on/off switch (poor contact) as the switch physically moves a bit when operated which must have fatigued the wire / solder joint. Re-strip wire / re-solder and now all good. Yes, hard to remove cover without marking the plastic, but very happy now with working vac. Kudos to you! Děkuji. (PS. The cover screw was torx, from memory, i'm writing this after the fix, i think it was size T7 for me)
Same problem only the metal circular part that goes on the axle had a hairline fracture and was freely moving on the axle. I used superglue. Took me about an hour trying to get into the motor area but this video gave me confidence so thank you! :) Saved me buying a new one and now I know I can fix it again if I have to! My symptoms were press trigger and a single beep and green light BTW. No motor movement. The beep seems to indicate an obstruction. Good luck folks!
Thank you very much. Mine was making a high pitched squealing noise. It ended up being the magnet was loose on the shaft as well. I used suggestion down below but used a C clamp instead to release the tabs. This saved me a few hundred dollars.
I had the same problem with the rotor spinning on the shaft. Allow the adhesive to fully dry before reassembling the motor. The symptom is the motor makes a squarking noise. DC31 is now cured, Thanks.
It's actually easy to remove the back of the handle/motor cover; just push upwards on the cap; as to distance the clip at the bottom of the handle end; use a soft but strong plastic or wooden tool(like a popsicle stick; I used a small kitchen knife but I would rather you would use a dull tool)to pry away the clip; releasing it from the handle(you can also push the clip from inside the hole at the bottom of the handle; but that was too hard). And then; all you need to do is pull this handle time thung upwards and out; what happens is that the cover shell begins to become oval; thus pulling away those first of clips; thus then giving downwards relief as this shifting then releases the top clips. I'll re-install it and show you in a video; if you didn't understand.
Torx T8 driver to remove screw on back. This is the only screw. Everything else is with broad clips that are difficult to unlatch. Heat up the unit with a hairdryer to make the plastic more plyable. Wrapping the back plastic shell in tape then putting in a clamp where the jaws only make contact with the back shell, then heating with a hairdryer can allow you to remove the back plastic shell. It is not easy. Try other things to fix faults first. ie another battery, clean battery contacts, clean filter.

Hello! DC45. one day the motor into the mop was stoped(not in the vacuum unit). I disassembled mop and measured motor resistance - 3 Om. The rotor was stucked, but i rotated his with force. 3 Om - It is work resistance or motor failed? And now - the main unit (with vacuum motor) is work, but i have not volume on the pins in the bottom of vacuum unit. From this pins volume go to the mop motor. When i disconnect the battery, this pins are directly connected(i am measure on the tester). Is it work situations? Sorry for my english...

Any suggestions on how exactly you have put the motor assembly in the vise? Because I assume putting pressure on the sides of the assembly will only make it more difficult to remove the tabs from the motor assembly.
Bonjour, je pocede la même machine, la brosse rotative ne marche plus, j'ai bien contrôlé le petit moteur avec une pile 3 v il fonctionne, j'ai effectué un nettoyage à fond et derrière l’engrenage de la brosse tournante, j'ai changer la batterie, mais le problème persiste. Comment vous faite pour savoir si le courant arrive bien sur le petit moteur, est ce qu'il y a des protection magnétique ou autre chose ?. merci d'avance de me répondre.
mine quit working and dyson pretty much told me I need a new motor (it cuts out after a few seconds) they told me Im SOL and have to pay 150 for a new motor from them! I refused to, so Im attempting to take mine apart to see whats wrong with it! thanks for this video, been looking everywhere for one about this!
@emma harrington I'm at that point to check next what you suggest, but then would also guess there is a cut off thermistor somewhere on motor. Anything else to check. Mine has canister and filter removed so it is not a blockage problem
can you help me out. i ripped mine a part. can i just operate the motor on external power. ..? whats the power rating that should be aplied directly to the motor terminals..?? . apriciate

My D35 is now stuck in MAX mode. I've had the vacuum for 8 years now so I know the usual method of releasing MAX mode. The MAX button doesn't seem to be pushed in. Could it be some kind of electrical fault? (I think one of the reasons I've had the vacuum so long is I've hardly used it in MAX mode.)
The switch mechanism on the MAX button is the most ridiculous thing in terms of complexity and repairability. Similar to a difficult Chinese puzzle, but imagine that the puzzle has tiny metal prongs and a spring that will lose themselves in carpeting if you happen to take it apart over a carpet. This happened to me. Luckily I have a collection of strong magnets to sweep the floor with and they turned up. The way they designed these things was not with a future repair in mind.
Biggest problem will be with non-balance of repaired rotor. Of course you cant make it worst, so why dont... I suggest to use some very tenuous glue, super glue maybe... Good luck!
+Ilja Mašík Super Glue was not strong enough. however it held enough for me to notice that it is cutting out after 3-4s could it be capasitor? or is there like a heat sensor somewhere? I just wonder if it is worth playing with epoxy and then find out that every 3-4s I have to press the button again...
I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the screwdriver in between the rear case cover and the main housing to release the plastic clips... anyone have some extra info or video on how they did it?
I worked from the bottom to get the cover off. Like others the rotor magnet was broken in pieces. It's a shame a 25 cent part can't be replaced. If anyone one tracked one down post it. Thanks
+Lyzzie K. Yes, its not exactly shown, but most important is how are plastics assembled. There is no magic touch to unlock cover. You have to insert a screwdriver into gap between cover and body in places where are locks and use appropriate force...

Thanks for details. What is described in the video, is purely my experience. My way how i did it. If you prefer to lead out capacitors first, its of course safer way. I just pulled it out, about strong glue i told in the video...
These are brilliant and rubbish at the same time. *IF* you get one that is fit for purpose you are laughing. Sadly the majority of them fail, I have *3* (2 X DC31 and 1 X DC35) *ALL* of them are faulty!!! Two of them work for 5-10 seconds and then shut off for a few seconds before restarting. One of them (DC35) will not turn on at all now! For the money we spend on these, it's better getting the cheaper knock offs, they work as promised, not as powerful, not as good, but at least they work.
Yes you didnt show how to open it i took the screw off but it is closed solid your title states Motor Disassembly back cover remove but you dont show it, its very funny

I know to remove the screws, but I need to know where the plastic clips are that's holding it in place so I dont go jamming a screwdriver into something I shouldn't be and end up fucking it up. Plus, the screw locations are a bit different on mine so it would've been really helpful if he would've started the video by doing what the title suggested
