Tony & Chelsea Northrup Panasonic 20mm f1.7 :) But it introduces heavy chromatic aberration which Olympus cameras can not deal with in camera.

Thinking of purchasing this camera. You make it so easy to understand the workings of the camera and understanding so many aspects of using any modern camera. I have a Nikon D7100 and now I even know more about it just by listening to you. Thanks for your video on this camera. It was suggested to me as one of the best mirrorless cameras under $1000 especially with the current special of the 14-150 lens for only $200 more.

Great video for the first-time user and shopper! I learned a ton by watching it (more than once, I might add). However, I had already purchased an OM-D E-M5II, and I would LOVE to have a more clear, concise tutorial on setting up the various function buttons and levers. The videos I have seen so far on the web lack a great deal of information or are just plain lousy (as a retired teacher, I value a well-designed step-by-step lesson ;) ). Thanks in advance for all you do!

Very awesome, just picked up an EM5.2 today and needed some help figuring things out. This tutorial really helped. Playing around the camera, after taking some high res shots of my bedroom wall, I found what I thought were dead pixels, one was grey, 2 others were bright green, showed up in regular 16MP and in 40MP. So after freaking out for a bit, I found pixel-mapping mode, under the K Utility menu, and it seemed to have cleared things up. Not sure what it does exactly, fully resets the image sensor or something, but it worked. I guess the pixels were just "stuck". Afterwards, I found out it is all explained in the full manual you can download online. Go figure, lol. I'll also note for people that might not realize at first (took me about 20min to figure out), in the button customization menu, the little iris/aperture icon, that is mapped to the button on the front of the camera, and its default action is an image preview.

Hi! thanks for this great video, definitively a brilliant way to connect with SDP book! and it greatly helped me ramp up my photo skills and apply them to my camera... I´m about to go for my first shooting of night photography, and going through this video, I came across the 15:41 Bulb Mode section... however, when checking it on my camera and then the manual, there are two other modes - LIVE TIME and LIVE COMP - that you don´t mention in the video... I think that instead of a BULB mode, a better option for the owner of the EM5 would be to go for the LIVE TIME option, and connect it via Olympus wi-fi to a smart phone with the olympus app installed, connect it (in the live view mode, NOT remote shutter), set it to manual and LIVE TIME, and use the smart phone as remote shutter, with the added bonus to get a live view of the picture taking itself and allowing us to more control the length of exposure...

Hi Tony, in Manual Mode, the image I see thru the EVF or LCD won't be the actual image i will get with that current exposure right? I mean, when I dial the speed or f-stop, I don't see the change reflect on the ELV. Please let me know. Thanks

I have taken a couple online camera course but could not reconcile what they were saying with my new Olympus, I even took a class at the camera store where I bought it , but they went so fast I couldn't remember it all. With this video I could pause and find what you were demonstrating on my camera and follow along easier. I would recommend for the basic intro demos, please shoe, where you are on the camera and go slower so we can see it on the scree.

I learned a nice shortcut when reviewing pics for sharpness. Before I would often have to #1 click on the review button then #2 rotate the dial to zoom into the focused part of the pic. You can also minimize rotating the dial to zoom to just one click if you click on the shutter button slightly (or any other button to go back to shooting again) after your last review of a pic at the zoom level you usually use. I found that you can set the review function to eliminate step #1. There is an auto play on the review function that nicely does this.

Hello Toni. Thank you for your detail tutorial! It's really helpful and useful. I'm considering to take this camera or Panasonic G7, mostly to make videos as a hobby. And I like a lot the quality of this particular video! What gear did you use for making this tutorial? +tony northrup - thanks for another great video. I just bought mine today and noticed in the HDR menu item (underneath 'Bracketing") the various HDR options are much more flexible than you suggest in the tutorial and should suffice for most users. In fact they provide more flexibility than Bracketing (e.g. 7f at 2.0EV). In camera HDR processing is only done on the first two of the total seven modes available.
@ArdashMuradian
@ArdashMuradian 8 лет назад
A limitation of HDR mode however, is that you cannot release the shutter with a delay. Hence a remote release or true Bracketing would be needed.

USB port is useful for updating firmware for the camera which is now at version 4.1. Olympus Digital Camera Updater also allows for updates for lenses. To update the lens, you need to have the lens attached to the camera and the software will figure out what lens is on and if there are any updates available for the E-M5 II to use that lens. You need to do this with all lens you have. Updating the firmware keeps the E-M5 a viable camera and has made this camera even better. That is the future of photography....software.
