I think it does. Aside from the breathing that makes it sound like a percussion playing. This is the best flute sound I've ever heard from a MIDI synth.
Answering you question on the description: The timber of the "instrument" is very convincing, but there is something on the attack of each note that makes it sound artificial. Besides, i missed the breathing sounds, as we are hearing a solo piece (what would be also missing on a piece for a chamber group). By the way, nice playing. You made the articulations sound very natural. I'm sure you would make it pass as a real flute with some great VST.
remember this a 1989 "economical" ROMpler, with 4 or 8 MB not GB, these samples are really good in context in his time 1989, I love it a have P1 P2 P3 and P2000

I have a soundfont version of the E-mu Proteus 2 presets, but sadly, you would have only 128 patches as opposed to 192, as it was taken from the Proteus 2's ROM board and used for Proteus 2000 as a Protozoa ROM version upgrade. The XR version has 384.
Eventually the menu is burned into your memory and you can navigate quite quickly. Just takes some uncomfortable effort to get started. Also the keyboard has shortcuts.
I recently bought a Proteus/2 after wavering over it for the past 10 years. In 2019 I contemplated buying a Proteus/1 Plus Orchestral but at the time I decided to stick to using VST instruments like DSK Virtuoso and bought Drumwavy specifically because it's marimba was sampled from the Proteus/1. It's a shame the Proteus/2 doesn't have a marimba although it's possible to synthesize a marimba as a custom patch. The Proteus/2's flute sound is still usable in low budget productions. It is still possible to create great quality music without using a single VST instrument, back in the 90s many producers recorded midi music with an entire rack filled with sound modules and I think this trend needs to make a comeback.
I agree. I have a whole (dusty) rack full of modules including Proteus 2, Proteus 3, Ultraproteus, Proteus 2000 and some Rolands and KORGs. I started using and recording softsynths over the last 8 years, mainly Spectrasonics Omnisphere, Keyscape and EWQL Symphonic Orchestra - but in the coming weeks I'll be using all those old modules again to record all my projects.
