It's crazy how different your experience removing the subframe was from mine. On my e30 the small aluminum cylinders in the subframe bushings were galvanically corroded to the steel car body (essentially welded) and it took me a few weeks to find a way to get enough mechanical advantage to pry it apart. Consider yourself lucky! ;) Love the videos keep it up

Im going on a couple weeks now of just hammering and prying and still hasn't come off, even more frustrating when there's videos on here of them coming off with a few swings and/or prying. As so it seems like it lol

wish my subframe bushings broke free that easily. going to try threading in big bolt into the bushings and attaching steel tube to the end to hammer down from

Wow! I always enjoy the fact you do this with basic tools and without a lift. Prove to everyone that no job is too large to do in your driveway. Any plans to powder coat or paint while it's out of the car? Unless of course you've already plugged it back in... Keep wrenching!

Must be so nice. Chicago is in the center of the rust belt and it sucks. I'm doing a manual swap and dropping the rear subframe too so this video was a great visual tool. Keep up the good work, can't wait to see this get done.

I did this subframe and trailing arm bushings last year when I had to fix my spring perch, it was a bitch for sure.

Do you need to remove the driveshaft? Can't you just take the subframe out by sliding it through the hole and using a Jack?

Victor U pretty sure you have to do it do to how the Subframe drops down 6inches off the studs before being able to move forward and backwards

Blake's Garage I've been at this for 3 days and the nuts won't budge holding the diff to the driveshaft :(. Heat, penetrating oil, hammer.

You just drop the whole rear end with diff and all just undo the hand brake cables from the centre console just to 10 mm then the 4bolts for tail shaft ,diff bolt and the two subframe bolts that hold it to the body also the 4 Allen head bolts 2 on either side with backers and shock bolts then drop out any real bmw enthusiasts would know this

Gaz Girl I agree that way is definitely faster if the Subframe wants to slide off. But it also adds a lot of deflection to the Subframe and is much heavier. So this method can also help if you have a hard time breaking the Subframe free.
