Very informative vid. I have one tip: when re-installing the oilpan, use a couple of ty-raps (four to six should be enough) to keep the gasket in place whilst positioning it. Helps when replacing the valvecover gasket too. At the moment you have the first four bolts in (not tightened of course) cut out the ty-raps and you're good to go.

BMW dealer labor rate is 180.00 an hour, that's where the money goes, I read anywhere from 800 to 1,400 depending, I'm charging 800 plus parts , air tools help, impact ratchet etc, they are invaluable in a situation like this, no special expensive one use only BMW tools required which is good, I did the trans mount on my neighbors x3 and if requires a special mount installation and removal tool that was around 250 for a one time use.

Thank you for making the video and answering so many questions. I have an 03 530 (E39) with small oil pan leak, which I know will get worse as time goes by. The only question I have is, where did you, what source did you use to get the torque values for various fasteners. If you don’t wish to share the info publicly , feel free to PM. And If you don’t wish to answer at all, I understand. Thank you.

Most of the torque values I found through multiple searches through various BMW forums. I did not have a manual when doing the job so cross referencing helped to ensure the values were correct. Also understanding the bolt size and its application with a smidge of common sense help to make sure the values weren't way off. Feel free to ask any other questions.

Do you need to take out the fan if you not lifting the engine much and used the support bar? once you lower subframe wont you have enough room for the engine mount replacement?

It is best to lift the engine to provide extra clearance when removing the pan. You can leave the fan in but realize that it will hit the shroud and you do not want to damage the fan (note you can unclip the shroud to give a little extra room). Also if you are replacing your belts it is a bit easier to get them on if the fan is out.

Would this be a good time to replace the struts?

Yes it would if you would like to take the extra step!

Why did you remove the brake calipers?
@rustbucketproductions

So that there would not be tension on the brake lines when dropping the suspension down. Honestly I do not think you will have clearance if you do not remove the calipers.
