I strongly agree with your choice of "The Empty Child" ... *very* frightening. Also the ending made me cry. "Everybody lives!" Sorry if I quoted that imprecisely. It's been quite a while since I last watched it.

It always seems to me that the daleks are scarier when they aren't doing much. The daleks rolling in for a few seconds to murder a room full of people in Genesis is scarier, at least to me, than the daleks yelling "do not move" over and over again in Destiny.

Hartnell: Sensorites Troughton: War Games (best story of all time imo) Pertwee: The Silurians T. Baker: Talons of Weng Chiang Davison: ARC of Infinity C. Baker : Terror of the Vervoids McCoy: Remembrance of the Daleks (I only hate Happiness Patrol from his era) McGann: Night of the Doctor Ecclestone: Empty Child Tennant: Impossible Planet/Satan Pit Smith: Name of Doctor Capaldi: Oxygen (I hate most stories this era very few I like) Love almost all the black and white ones. The 60s era seems to have more of my favourites personally.

For Capadli, I would say "Listen". Its extremely well crafted, it actually deals with science fiction. And it's about the Doctor facing a true fear of his that really humanizies his character and actually develops his relationship with Clara in a meaningful way. Too bad they didn't keep going with stories like that.

Here’s something interesting about series 11, we now know that the daleks are returning but also apparently we’re getting a sontaran story, and allegedly the plot is the doctor and her companions arrive on a desolate planet populated by only a faction of humans and a faction of sontarans, but not them as we know them, but the original ones before the cloning process began, and they all form an alliance to fight an “unknown enemy”, which I’m hoping is the Rutans, curious to see what you think of this. The Ark, The Mind Robber, Inferno, Face Of Evil, Kinda, The Two Doctors, Ghostlight, Night of The Doctor, Dalek, Blink, A Christmas Carol And Flatline

Discounting multi-Doctor stories, these are what i'd pick; Dalek Invasion of Earth (you are spot on about this one especially that speech by Hartnell). The Moonbase - great base under siege with some epic moments. The Daemons - UNIT, the Master, great nods to Quatermass and Midwich Cuckoos among others, some actually good science here and there, and the Doctor menaced by Morris dancers. Pyramids of Mars. Really hard choice, and I do love Genesis of the Daleks, but I thought this one was Sarah Jane and the Doctor's finest hour in developing their character relationship, and Sutekh is an amazing villain. The Visitation. I love Richard Mace, he should get a Big Finish spin-off, and the Terileptils were very well done on the budget. Excellent plot, too. Attack of the Cybermen. Very dark, very brutal, just as the cybermen should be, and I loved the respect for the series history. Remembrance of the Daleks. I do like stories that tie in to the series' past, but this is just a cracking adventure and McCoy is outstanding. Night of the Doctor. Sorry, but the movie just sucks, no fault of Paul's. The Empty Child/ The Doctor Dances. I do think this story lags from time to time but still was Eccleston's best (though I really like The Unquiet Dead). Midnight. I really like a lot of Tenth Doctor stories (especially The Unicorn and the Wasp), but I think this one is so good in so many ways - tense, disturbing, performed so well and with some amazing visuals. Cold War. A really good return for the Ice warriors, great cast, great plot, even if it does have Clara in it. Knock Knock. I like the 'And Then There Were None' vibe to this story, and the awkward interplay between Bill, her friends and the Doctor; David Suchet is an actor I love, and I just think this is a very creative, even touching story for Doctor Who. .

I haven't seen all of the Doctors, and I haven't seen everything there is to see for all of the Doctors, but from what I have seen: 3. The Time Warrior 4. Genesis of the Daleks 6. When the only Sylvester McCoy story you’ve ever seen is Silver Nemesis...

For the 1st Doctor I would go for the Aztecs or the Time Meddler but Dalek Invasion of Earth is great and that speech is fantastic. We agree on the Invasion for the 2nd Doctor and Tobias Vaughn was brilliant; Packer! For the 3rd Doctor I would go for the Green Death but he has so many good ones and only a couple meh ones, he has a great average. I do love the Sea Devils. Tom Baker is my all time favorite too and he has so many good ones! I have to go with Genesis of the Daleks as well. It was the first one I ever saw back in the late 70s here in the US. I love both your picks for the 5th Doctor, I'd also throw Enlightenment into it and maybe Kinda and Resurrection of the Daleks as well. Vengeance on Varos is a solid story for Colin's tenure. I like Revelation of the Daleks a lot too. Again agree on McCoy's era too. Love Remembrance of the Daleks and Curse of Fenric. 8th Doctor, yeah. The movie was weird he was great in Night of the Doctor though. 9th Doctor; definitely agree. Loved the Empty Child. 10 Doctor, yeah although I had some problems with Silence in the library, it was good. 11th hour for Matt for me, I haven't gotten that far into his time yet, Vampires of Venice is next for me here so cannot comment on Capaldi at all yet.

I'd have to do a lot of re-watching (and in some cases, watching for the first time) to do Classic Who, but for NuWho I'd go with: 9 The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances. I kind of want to go with Dalek, but The Empty Child was just sooo creepy. 10 School Reunion. Yeah, it's fanservice, but in this case, I don't care. 11 The Girl Who Waited. I've said before, this isn't just maybe the best Doctor Who story IMO, it might be the best story of any TV show I've even seen. 12 Mummy on the Orient Express. Just a fun, fun romp.

Despite your misgivings with the episode would you say The Doctor Falls had a lose-lose situation? The cybermen couldn't be stopped, the best the doctor could hope to do was to fight them long enough so the children had a chance to live longer but at the cost of his life. There was no real victory there. I was actually reminded of Caves of Andrazani when I watched it.

I'm on a massive Classic Who binge atm but I've yet to finish every Doctor's era, so for NuWho at least: 9th - "Bad Wolf"/"Parting Of The Ways" 10th - "The Impossible Planet"/"The Satan Pit" 11th - "The Doctor's Wife" 12th - "World Enough And Time"/"The Doctor Falls"

For me, Capaldi's best is "Mummy on the Orient Express". I was a bit underwhelmed by the the Second part of "Lake/Flood", but I loved the first part. I thought a lot of the 2-parters in Capaldi's era were very well set up, only for the second part to swing and miss, the only exception being the Zygon two-parter, and maybe the Monk three-parter. As for Mummy, I loved the premise of there just being a mythical monster they have to figure out how to stop, and it sets up more of the same in the future, if they return to the premise, and Gus's experimentation, whoever he turns out to be.

Aaaah, I wouldn't put Under The Lake as Capaldi's best. Heaven Sent was better, as was Listen and Mummy on The Orient Express. But for me, World Enough and Time is the pinnacle.
