That's a cute little hit & jump engine! It needs some springs under the 4 corners of the battery box to keep it from jumping off the table. In the early 70's a Conoco station I worked at still had a hand crank operated pump to dispense white gas. Most things Coleman back then such as lanterns and stoves ran on it and there were still rural folks here in Iowa using white gas cook stoves in their houses. The numbers were very small as I seldom had to dispense white gas.

Thank you very much for your video of the M92 engine. I had the Eachine ET1 for literally 1 hour until my son tried to pull start it and it pulled out of his hand and smashed it. just received the ET6/M92 does anybody know if the cap on the spark plug end can come off without too much drama? I have made a box that's better than the supplied one, just don't want to "yank" the cap and break again (I really haven't had a good run so far) Thank you again for your informative reviews Ronald, they encouraged me to go down this path, please keep it up!

Hello Ronald. Thank you for the presentation. I am also infected by these little engines. It is unbelieveable what they offer here for a little money. I think China got over it. Now they deliver also good Quality. It is amazing how fast the producers react on critics and transform it Info new solutions. I cant find something like this here in Germany. I showed it to my students in Mechatronik school. Wet eyes arround me. Like Christmass. Because it is real and not only screen and virtual reality. True basics. By the way, I think this Drive shaft model might take more energy because of the gears. What do you think. Greez from Bavaria.
@RonaldWalters2010
@RonaldWalters2010 3 года назад
The other Hit & Miss engines have gears in them as well. This turn over very easily. Mine maintains a very consistent speed compared to the earlier models. A lot of stuff shipped from China is poorly/very poorly packed. This product is well packed. It has some delicate bits and pieces in it and will not stand up to being dropped or allowed to bounce off the work bench. But anyone with access to a lathe and a few tools could make parts if necessary. These are demonstration model engines for personal entertainment. They are not intended to run for long periods of time nor for some industrial purpose. As you stated they are good value for the money. Thanks for watching. Thank you for your excellent review(s) ; I would love to step to one of these engines ... but basically I am a stirling or steam guy :-) May I ask which of these Eachine models would you recommend for a rather novice owner ? ( roughly I can see ET7 ET6 ET5 ET2 ET1 ETX EM1 !!! ... I cannot say for sure what are the differences ... ) Thank you in advance !
@RonaldWalters2010
@RonaldWalters2010 3 года назад
ET7 is less complicated with fewer moving parts and I think it is easier to work on. I would recommend ET7. ET1 is my next recommendation but it is a bit fiddly trying to get the exhaust valve rocker adjusted when you have to take the head off. ET6 is also a good engine, good runner but more complicated with many small pieces and movements. I would stay away from ETX and ET5 I have not reviewer the EM1 but expect to next year. Don’t forget to get some spare piston ring o-rings and maybe a spark plug if you don’t have one. I have review videos for all of these engines and recently released videos of ET1 and ET6 running for 4 or 5 minutes. Tomorrow a video will be released on ET7 running for 4+ minutes. I also have a video on the correct fuel to use. If you are accustomed to working on steam engines, Stirling engines and flame lickers, you shouldn’t have any issue with one of these… keep it well oiled and clean up afterwards. Links to purchase the engines and discount coupons can be found in the video description. Thanks for watching! Please subscribe. That is what keeps this channel running. Ron

I will order an extra mini spark and o rings ... could you please confirm what are correct refs for these ? Thank you for your help ; when you have a moment, I just can strongly suggest :-) you to have a look to my channel, featuring about 200 vintage steam and hot air engines ... Go to my video on ET7. In the descriptino is a listing for piston o-ring for ET1, ET6, ET7, ETX they all use the same o-ring. The spark plug will probably be on the same page. Use the coupon code to get the price of the ET7 down a bit. Once you get the air out of the fuel hose, there will be no more air until you run out of fuel in the tank. I looked briefly at your channel earlier. That's how I knew you have played around with Stirling, steam and flame lickers. :-) Cheers!

Ron been watching your videos on these engines. At this date which of these engines would you most recommend. I do like the whirling of the balls on this model, and it seems to be more showy in all that’s going on, and also sounds more like the old hit, and miss. Let me know, and I will order through your website. I did try your discount code BGacd43a , and said expired. Thanks

@RonaldWalters2010 Год назад
In this series of hit-n-miss engines ET1, ET7 ET6 and EM2 are my favorites. Discount codes: They probably are expired. Banggood has more recently adapted the policy (or changed how their website works) in that they do not display engines which are out of stock (unless you have one of my links to that particular page). Links for all the engines I have reviewed are in the descriptions for the videos. Banggood has also changed my Rep twice this year and I have not established communications with the latest one. I will do that later today or tomorrow. Sometimes takes a week to get new discount codes. Note: Even with a new code it may not work if the engine is already on sale. Will just have to try it and see. I will try to remember to tell you when I have uploaded new codes. ET1 was the first in the series. ET7 has a simplified governor and is easiest to work on in terms of replacing the piston ring o-ring. It currently appears to be out of stock. EM2 is a really nice engine. Pretty little engine and a good runner. ET6 is a good runner but does have some small fragile parts. I haven't had any problems with it but if it were dropped and hit on the governor area that would be a mess. Like anything else... if you take car of it! I would totally avoid the ET5 (M12), ET5 Pro (M12 pro), ET5S (M12C) and ET8 (M93) engines. EM4 runs very well, smooth consistent speed adjusted with needle valve setting, but has the water tank and pump which are an unnecessary complication. EM1 is a beautiful little engine. It arrived all falling apart and as stated in my video I had to replace a number of setscrews and figure out how it was supposed to run. The manufacturer acted like I was asking for trade secrets when I asked which direction it was supposed to run and how to set the timing. A low speed engine that sounds like a singer sewing machine running and is VERY sensitive to needle valve position (which can make it difficult/impossible to get it to run the First Time). May not be the best engine until you have more experience working o these engines. EM3 turned out to be a very good runner. Showed up with the piston liner o-rings leaking and I wasn’t getting any satisfaction from the manufacturer (and I am reviewing his engines - go figure). I had to figure out my own method of getting the liner sealed and then it ran well. However this engine disappeared from Banggood and it appears the manufacturer may have quit making it. Some of the newer engines in my opinion are way over priced and just not worth it. Banggood has a 30 day refund/replacement guarantee. But I always suggest using PayPal for payment which simply gives you one more layer of protection. Therefore if it is damaged in shipment or doesn’t run you are covered. Banggood may ask for a little more for insurance, which isn’t a bad idea. Engines which are in stock have been reaching me via air freight in about two to three weeks. Thanks for watching. Please subscribe! That is what keeps this channel going. Ron

Ronald what do you think the longevity of these engines?
@RonaldWalters2010
@RonaldWalters2010 3 года назад
These are demonstration model engines for personal entertainment. They are not intended to run for long periods of time nor for some industrial purpose. Many people use them to power a model boat or tractor. If you treat them with respect, keep them clean, check fasteners are tight, oil everything before every run, keep the distilled cooling water full, they should last a long time. The consumables are the o-ring piston rings and the spark plug. The spark plug should last a long time. They will require some occasional tinkering so being somewhat mechanically inclined would be helpful. The nice part is you do not need to spend weeks or months in a machine shop trying to create something similar yourself. For the price I think they are a nice model engine.

What do you have on your drill for starting?
@RonaldWalters2010
@RonaldWalters2010 Год назад
Cordless Drill Starter for Hit & Miss Engines - I have two videos on this. One made of plywood and a 3D printed version. Disadvantage of this is it can loosen your flywheels. The manufacturer often just uses a set screw into a round shaft to attach the flywheels and it can chew up the shaft and make it difficult/impossible to get the flywheel off. In other words, try to hand start whenever possible.

I just received my ET 6. I cannot get it to start. I took the spark plug out it is getting spark. I did have it flooded. Cleaned out the Coleman fuel, but it still won't start. The compression doesn't feel real strong. I tried choking it, and I noticed it actually pushes gas backwards, like the exhaust valve isn't seating properly. Any suggestions?
@gregoffenback6910
@gregoffenback6910 Год назад
Well I messed with it long enough to get it running. I tried starting it where the needle was set, but it would not start. I then opened it even further. Finally I closed it completely and it started. It now starts at ⅛ turn open, runs the best a little more than ¼ open. But to restart the engine I have to set it back to ⅛. Every engine has its own idiosyncrasies.
@RonaldWalters2010
@RonaldWalters2010 Год назад
Is this your first hit and miss engine? It can take a while to "get a feel" for these but generally they start right out of the box. You must get all the air bubbles out of the fuel line. I cover this in many of my videos. Checking the timing... the engine should fire JUST PAST TDC (top dead center). Best not to mess around with settings until you know for sure what is going on with your engine. All indications are that they have been test run at the factory before putting them in the box. Most of these engines need the needle valve to be open slightly more for starting... then after they warm up a little, the needle valve can be closed slightly. You will see this in my videos. Watch my videos... how I flip them over a couple of times while choking the carburetor with my finger (ignition off).Then ignition on and they will start on the next flip. If you get tired and frustrated with it... walk away and try again later.

@RonaldWalters2010
@RonaldWalters2010 3 года назад
At 5:30 in the video you can see how the ball governor must be able to travel up and down freely with the change in engine speed. When the RPM increases, the balls travel outward and cause a lever to go under the collar on the exhaust valve push rod. That blocking lever must be able to move back and forth very freely. The exhaust valve push rod must be loose enough and free enough to travel up and down without restriction… and it should be able to fall under its own weight. The exhaust valve rocker arm must be able to travel freely as well. There should be a little clearance between the end of the rocker and the top of the exhaust valve… just enough to allow the valve to close and provide compression (clearance: the thickness of one or two pieces of paper). It sounds like something is binding up a little somewhere. Everything needs to be floppy loose… fall under its own weight… zero drag. In my video: Eachine ET6 Hit & Miss - Changing O Rings ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0oYgB3FBqjc.html Around 3:55 I mention one of the head bolts that needs to remain a bit loose so the cam follower arm (it has the bearing on one end which rides on the exhaust valve cam) can move freely… make sure that hasn’t become too tight. Do not FORCE anything. Some very small pieces involved in this mechanism that can get bent with force. Just don’t go screwing around on things until you can determine what is going on… otherwise you can get the timing all messed up. If you do decide to take things apart… take some good photos first, so you will know how it goes back together again. But do not take anything apart just yet... look around first. With every engine I have received… every indication is that the engines had been test run before they were boxed. Every one has run without touching the carburetor or anything. Things get bounced around pretty good from the time it leaves China until it gets to you. Things can sometimes move. Look really close… a tiny piece of the packing foam (or dirt) stuck in something somewhere. Always possible something got slightly bent. It is also possible that the exhaust valve itself is sticking open (or the intake valve). Takes very little to end up with zero compression. Have you been able to run the engine at all? Let me know how you do. Ron

@RonaldWalters2010
@RonaldWalters2010 3 года назад
Ok, Could be there is something under the intake valve which will also result in no compression. One viewer, with an earlier version hit & miss, had a piece of carbon holding a valve open. Wouldn't think so with a new engine but it won't hurt to look. He removed the spark plug and was able to flush it out with a can of WD-40 while holding the spark plug hole facing down. Failing that, watch my video and take the head off. Just be very gentle removing that small bolt.

Your other comment was left 11 day ago under the video on changing o-rings on the ET6. My answer from 11 days ago: This has been covered several times in comments for various engine videos. Going back to ET1 they were using two o-rings. In order to slow down the engine (for a more realistic hit & miss run) they started using only one o-ring to lower the compression. Most of the engines only have one o-ring installed. If you paid for your engine using PayPal you can file a claim against Banggood for a refund and that will get their attention (maybe). Did you use one of my links to purchase your ET6? If so, give me your order number, date purchased, date received. Also I hope you saved the original packaging. They often want a photo of the shipping label and the bar code on the box. Is the governor adjustable for variable speed?
@RonaldWalters2010
@RonaldWalters2010 3 года назад
Short answer, No adjustment. Long answer, conventional use of a flying ball governor on a steam engine would be to regulate a steam valve or the butterfly in a carburetor of a gasoline engine, where speed could be adjusted by adjusting the governor linkage. This one releases compression and there is no adjustment for speed. The speed is controlled by the weight and geometry of the two balls. The other Hit & Miss Engines ET1 and ETX also have no speed control other than changing spring tension, when I used weaker springs to slow them down a bit more.

These are demonstration model engines. A miniature version of an old type engine. Something you can run on your workbench and you do not need to be a machinist to have one. It would help if you were mechanically inclined and understand engines, as some tinkering is required from time to time. In my opinion, best bang for the buck is this one or the ET1 for personal entertainment, demonstration or teaching. And it is a nice display piece.

Well built piece of junk. After a few runs ignition went out. Trashed it. 👎👎👎

Sorry to hear that. Using only two batteries for ignition (as shown in my videos) may have prevented that. If you had purchased it from Banggood.com you would have a 30 refund or replacement... and paying with PayPal would give you even more protection.
