I had a pour of the 1924 and for me I will buy the ER every day for $35-$40 vs the 1924 for $110-130.

I work at a liquor store in CO, we get about 6 bottles of Eagle Rare per month and sell em at 37.99. We got 6 bottles of 1924, and our cost per bottle was around 105, so we sell it for 139.99. I personally think that Old Forester priced themselves out of the market. 139.99 is an absurd price for a bottle that I barely prefer over eagle rare. I like Old Forester, but I can’t get on board with the pricing.
@jacksongibbens8562

I just retried my 1924, and I can once again say, not even close to worth the price when there are so many better bottles for 60-90.
@ebunch1911

And I would praise.ypu all for that bc places are getting ridiculous with the prices of Rare. It's been to the point I've seen it places for $90 at the highest which I laughed at them. Yes, OF should've priced it at 70-80 for 1924 bc the OFBS are $90 typically.

Great matchup! In California the 1924 goes for $130-140 versus around $35 for the ER, and all the scalpers are hunting down the 1924 anyway so it's hard to find. I think I will stick with Knob Creek 12 which beats them both and is $60!

My man, you are speaking my language. I measure all bourbon against Knob Creek 12. It is my favorite bourbon under $100 by a country mile. If you get to multiples of that you better be damn good.

Same. There are too many bottles out there, that I already know I love, for 2/3 - 1/2 the price of the 1924... Knob Creek 12 being one of them.

1924 is so good! The hate is purely based on price comparison to the rest of whiskey row. But most ppl will pay 115+ for Van Winkle 10, Birthday Bourbon, Old Fitzgerald 9, 10 etc. without batting an eye, same ages and almost same proof...

Eagle Rare was the first bourbon I ever fell in love with, and it’s still one my all time favorites. I would love to get a bottle of 1924, but the only time I found it near me, they wanted $300. I always seam to get a nice banana note from OF, which I like. Nice review, I’m hoping to find 1924, but I’m not paying over twice retail.

The OF 1924 is another example of how pricing is getting crazy! The sweet spot for me is around $50 TO $60. In that price range there are a ton of great bourbons. A suggestion for your next double bass match up- Rare Breed vs Russell Reserve 10 year. A non-bourbon related question Jason. Is your t-shirt from Brewdog Brewery and Doghouse in Columbus? They have the octopus motif in honor of the founders family fishing roots in Scotland. Cheers.

This was eye-opening, and reinforces why I won't pay $120 (in NoCal) for the 1924. I bet a good ER store pick might have won this double bass, and I still find those for $40 here. How about Sagamore 8yr vs Emerald Giant CS!!!

I live maybe 20 mins from Buffalo Trace and never see anything of there best bottles on the shelf . I can grab a OF 1910 or 1920 but no eagle rare, blantons,Weller and many others except in a case to look at not for sale or a price tag 4 times the msrp. Its crazy to me . Ive had a chance to pick up regular Buffalo Trace and heard its very good. But I cant simply because all other products are unavailable. Im a simple guy that prefers a good store pick of just about anything. Wheated bourbon is easier to drink for most people. With that said I think Buffalo is loved because of the sweater taste. I like that brown foreman products use there own yeast strains for each distillery.

Either bottle has an allocation tax. They’re both in such high demand where I live so even finding either is hard. ER is easier - usually a local shop announces on IG and the supply is quickly bought up. Local shop used to sell it for low 30s with barrel picks around $35-40. Now their price is $70-75 - pass. 1924 is $120-150 and a unicorn. Saw one at a small liquor store for $350. I’ve bunkered enough bottles to last for a while so I’ll stay out of the arbitrage mess that bourbon has become.
