After having a fault in my wiring harness, I tried to me a little creative and fix the problem by rewiring a small section of the harness where the fault was (old broken wires and corroded connector) That didn't work so we are installing a new harness along with replacing the Fan Bearing which makes concerning noises under acceleration. Enjoy!

Good job of getting up into the tight places to show what needed to be done. Looking forward to what updates you have next for us.

I'll definitely be re-watching this when I tackle my harness next winter.

dear ben i worked in chevy dealer back in the ealy 70' and one secret from the repair shop was to how adjust the lifters. your car is runing fine however you could reinspect them with this procedure. a 2 to 3 foot lenght cut old water hose. ( home made estethoscope) or a doctor's esthoscope will do too. remove one side valve cover. place the hose at the top of the rocker arm the other end in your ear, and you will hear the lifters. compare the noise. one by one untide them you will be hearing the change of noise. readjust, never over adjust. when changing mufflers a readjus lifters is in order because the back pressure change and exhaust valves are prone to burn. the sheetmetal under the engine are essential to maintain corect hot air exhaust air and propper balance engine temp. love your corvair. PS the issue back them was oil leaking from the oil rings. must of them in very good condition. dealer accepted all corvair with a $250.00 credit toward a new chevy and the corvairs to the junk yard. i pick up a couple of them before for the junkman. i still have one a 66 with 23,000 miles

Thank you for sharing your corvair wisdom! A readjustment of the lifters does sound necessary after exhaust change. I am currently finishing out getting my bottom sheet metals how they need to be, new choke coils too. Awesome to hear you still have one from back in the 70s!

Nothing like taking a chance on breaking a cast aluminum instead of following the book and doing it right. I replaced the bearing as a complete assy. on my old '61 but I also took the unit off the engine so I wouldn't break the piece. I am surprised you didn't break that cover into several pieces.

Is using the slide hammer that part that would have broke the cover? I did what I saw davemotohead do.

I'm glad to see you back. Cool video. I'm actually interested in the LED lights

I think the original ones were dim due to the harness being bad, so never saw how original bulbs looked but I really like the green LED's.

@BenBenCorvair where did you get the LED's? And did you have to do anything or do they just plug in?

Do you have any videos on how you wired the alternator conversion and how you installed led brake lights? My brake lights are not working

Unfortunately I didn't make a video over the wiring for that, but you should be able to find the wiring diagram for it online. The led brake lights go in like regular bulbs, you can find them online. Check for power to your light socket and make sure it has a good ground.

I work in a wiring factory. You don’t twist the wire.

Got it! What is the reason for not twisting?

Buy factory-style new harnesses you won't regret it you can tell it's an automatic transmission by the oily tunnel cover
