EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 6 | An Addictive “Next-Gen” EDF?

Honestly sounds like what I'd expect from an EDF game. Pretty much every EDF game has added maps/enemies and reused levels from previous ones. A good example is the map with the waves of red ants on the beach and nothing else. Its basically a classic staple of the series.

The story, roughly, is that after EDF 5, a new species - octopus aliens - move in to terraform (alienform?) what is left of earth for their use. The remaining EDF become a problem, so the new aliens use time gate technology to wage a time war - the EDF gets sucked into the portal - and this is how you end up replaying levels from the past, only with new enemies. The Octopuses want to resurrect 'The Nameless' (the God-boss from EDF 5) by helping his invasion win in the past. The EDF stop that nonsense, and then the real game starts at about level 43. There are 150 levels in EDF 5, so those first 43 are just warm-up. The Octopuses have their own tech, but they can now use The Nameless' monsters too, and on some truly gigantic new maps - coastal regions, vast deserts, quaint towns and villages, and more. You get to fight the frog aliens from the previous game after they have gone feral and resorted to primitive tools, too. So, EDF 5 is a time-war game spanning two separate invasions of earth, each with unique units to fight. Like all EDF games, Easy is a baby doddle to play, while Inferno is hard as nails and requires real thought as well as solid fighting skills. Some levels must be solved like puzzles at the highest rank - it becomes hopeless to just go in shooting, you have to really work out a plan.

EDF 6 taking whole missions from EDF 5 and porting them over is no big surprise. hell, there's maps that have been ported forward like 3 games in a row, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

The story this time around is insane. Too insane. I can't wait for the translation. If you played the past games, the payoff is HUGE

the best thing about EDF is that even if its in a language you can understand, the weapons were always ""use it to guess wtf it even did"

I think there really needs to be a sort of EDF Emipres (maybe call it EDF: Central command) where you can customise your soldier, and your get to build up your own base (maybe your given temp command over the base while its under construction and then the invasion happens communication between bases is cut off so now you need to build up the base and your forces) maybe have various alien factions, various kaiju, bandits and other attempting to profit from what seems to be the end, and a EFD like group that seems to worship or want to join the aliens send out groups of units into the world to collect or secure resources, send your character out on missions as well, defend your resource hubs and base when they are attacked (maybe have your base map change and grow depending on what you have built). and be able to research and build tech (sort of like an EDF version of a cross between Dynasty Warriors Empires, and the original X-Com)

I love the series but I'm waiting for the western release, hopefully it doesn't take too long. 5 was the best, so far

Iron Rain wasn't a reboot it was a spin off. Similar to Insect Armageddon or World Brothers.

I’m Japanese EDF player scones first on series. This is by far my favorite EDF ever. Nice story twists and memorable moments. And over 140 missions. However, if you never play EDF5, storyline is kind of hard to understand. So I recommend play or watch before play EDF6. Anyway, see you guys on the frontline.

EDF 6? News to me. As someone that loved Iron Rain for some reason, I'm ready for a new mainline game.

Seriously looking forward to western release. I platinumed EDF 5 and loved the coop online. Getting the character to shout "EDF !" In a squeaky Wing diver voice at inopportune times always amuses. As does working out to circumvent the profanity filter on set text messages (tied to the wheel). I realised that it quickly put a stop to the obvious rude words, but you can shout "Titwank !" with ease

But the bigger question is can we sing this song again? "To save our mother Earth from any alien attack From vicious giant insects who have once again come back We'll unleash all our forces, we won't cut them any slack The EDF deploys!"

Life. Liberty. And the pursuit of explosions. Earth Defense Force In a nutshell. Hope they release it soon for PC.

One last thing: amazing video! I love seeing support for this hidden gem of a series skyrocketing after 6 years(Been playing since 2016 of December, one full year before it released in Japan for edf 5). Even though iron rain is its own respected title I do wanna say this: Nothing beats the main edf series! Iron rain helped a lot for popularity though so did world brothers but their main goals was appeal rather than gameplay as well or continuity of storyline.

You go back to the EDF5 Stages (yes they ARE actually 1-1 copies of those missions), it's set to be because of the storyline. STORY SPOILER: The Primers are going back in time to kill you. That is the legitimate story as to why you're there. You have gone back in time to stop them from killing you, Storm 1, before you could kill one of their most powerful bioweapons.

I love EDF, but I fully understand that it's not a game for everyone. It's very much the Dynasty Warriors of shooters. The games look like they're from two generations ago, the missions are repetitive and the story might as well not be there. I still love it to death, though.

Each EDF tends to be better than the last in the main numbered series. Five has the best gameplay but 4 has the best EDF anthem in the form of "The EDF Deploys" I didn't care for the song in 5.

I had EDF 5 on my list since you made that video 3 years ago... and bought it for 20 bucks 6 days ago ;-) Thanks for the recommendation, PS4 version runs great on PS5 :)

Can't wait for this to come out in North America. Having put about a thousand hours into EDF5, the gameplay can get pretty addicting. Not many other games let you blow up buildings and fight giant monsters at the same time.

Been looking forward to EDF 6’s release. Hoping it gets a NA release within the next year.

I have played almost every version of EDF that I could get my hands on and in my opinion, 5 is definitely the best (with just one or two things from 4.1, it would be perfect!) I have not ordered 6 yet, hoping the US version comes out before Xmas, if not, I may get the Japanese version then. It would be awesome if you did some mission videos, since almost nobody is doing any English posts.

I've just recently acquired 5 and was enjoying it so much I decided to look up if there was a 6. Glad I found this video before I imported it. Looks like very much of the exact same so I think I will wait.

6 has been a blast. Honestly Im glad i play the edf series so much. Makes edf 6 a lot more manageable when it comes to knowing what weapons do what when you dont know a lick a japanese

Idk how i feel about ranger getting the sentry guns. They were really useful for air raider. I hope air raider still gets the same amount of actual airsupport.

Boomstick, if you understood Japanese and listened to the character dialogue, you would realize that the repeating levels is intentional due to this games plot. I won’t go into anything too specific, but let’s just say, in same vain as a certain madman with a blue box, it involves wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff.

EDF series has the Street Fighter 2 & Pokemon effect. Its a old Japanese sales strategy. Use what works then add to it, with better graphics touch up, maps, character ect ect. Still pretty much the exact same game. EDF 5.5

It blows my freaking mind how they STILL havent released this game for the rest of the world. Not even a release date confirmed, no news, no nothing. How f'ing hard can it be to translate the tiny bit of voiceover and text in the game?!? Years of work?? Its not like this is a fallout game or something, good lord. Do they not want our money?? This is the most hype I've seen for an edf games release and they seem to be dragging their feet even more with this one than they did with edf5!

EDF 6 is a great game. All EDF games are good games and have their charm. I will also mention other Sandlot games such as Zangeki no Reginleiv and Chousoju Mecha MG who are also great, but unfortunately released only in Japan.

Have you played any of the games on Nintendo switch? Most of them are not out in North America yet. Have you heard anything about them coming here. When I Google it all I get is the same articles about that games coming to Japan stores from like a year ago.

4.1 is my favorite. It had the best missions, enemies and maps. 5 made the characters a little bit better, but the maps are significantly worse IMHO. Still, 5 is pretty amazing. Looks like 6 will be more of the same.

I actually love Iron Rain. I know these games aren't about the graphics but I would love a good looking EDF.

Real talk i joined the EDF in 4.1 and still have great memories 5 was and is great game play wise but 4.1 still beats it in a few areas in the sound department i am very looking forward to 6 that silly and classic arcade shooting that i can enjoy with my friends and a few new guns to blow up cities with THAT is what EDF is all about

How are the weapons? I know there were lots of weapons in EDF 4 & 5 but I still felt like there could have been a lot more or more diverse. Especially for the fencer class.

Played them all but 5, think I should skip it or is there enough different to warrant a playthrough?
