Where do you go when you feel off colour?
Earth feels unwell, sometimes she feels like a hot potato, she finds it hard to breathe, she's all in a spin, anxious and she hasn't smiled for so long. So she goes to the doctor who confirms that she is very much under the weather and what he prescribes seems impossible...4 weeks rest. How can Earth possibly manage that when everybody needs her? When she wakes up the next day there is a strange silence...EVERYWHERE...the humans are ill. Earth has that rest and nature takes its course, animals roam free, plants flourish and it was wonderful. When the humans were allowed back outside they took note of how beautiful earth was and they knew that change was needed.
This is a story that was written during the pandemic and in its simplicity of a story this is an incredibly powerful and beautiful book that overflows with a message hope and kindness for both people and our lovely world. It is a story with hidden layers written in such a wondrous way that is thought provoking for all readers and equally at a child's level which can support their understanding and learning of the pandemic. Additionaly, it can be used as a resource, a tool to generate discussions and answer questions for the young about environmental issues. This story highlights the impact that humans have on the planet and how in just a few weeks the world changed for the better. The illustrations have an amazing earthy softness to them that compliments the writing. They are gentle and full of hope and you feel deeply for Earth, the character, to get better, to heal.
