One of the most interesting life stories I've ever heard. Can you imagine the internal struggles that Eartha had to go through in order to feel confident enough to be who she was while on this Earth, all the while, being treated like a rag doll by most people she encountered... That's called sacrifice and transformation! When you listen to the stories of your elders and ancestors, great knowledge and wisdom, such as this can be attained!

I saw Eartha as a 14 year old in the musical "Timbuktu" in Washington, D.C USA). I had no idea who she was until I saw the show. She was GREAT! And I had the good fortune of saying "hello" and having a small chat with her (and my Grandma who was crazy about Eartha...made Eartha a bit nervous, I think). Eartha was very kind to me...what a way to discover her! And then I learned a bit about her story....wow. It's so nice to hear her speak it.

Well one thing for sure didn't do us no kind of service by making that blasphemy of a movie about Nina Simone and they cast Zoe Saldana as Nina Simone. That was nothing but fucking blasphemy the actress now there's a lot of controversy about this movie have to be made up a prosthetic nose to blend in with the makeup to portray Nina Simone I have no respect for Zoe Saldana none at all Zoe. Dinner is a Dominican Republic afro-caribbean actress and they don't consider themselves black just ask cardi B, in a few other afro-caribbean black actresses and singers didn't want to be associated with being black American and that's a fact

During a time period when illegitimacy was a serious offense. The darker hued children could hide it. No one would know unless you told them or unless they knew your family history. Lighter complexioned or biracial children, no matter where they lived in the south could not hide their illegitimacy. What an awful existence for any human being to be treated as subhuman as Eartha Kitt was. She really went through a lot, and for her to be able to speak of her experiences with such candor and clarity says a lot for her inner strength, as well as her gifts of mental clarity and perspective. People today tend to see lighter skinned Blacks as somehow more "successful", "lucky", and more "acceptable", but this is not necessarily the case. The color thing is so twisted and perverted, and it explains why so many talented Black people of all hues gravitated towards lives and careers in Europe where color is not such a big deal. Europeans do have their racial issues as well, but they are not as pronounced as in the USA.

Most likely the interviewer is ignorant and cannot get her head around the fact that a lighter skinned African American could face discrimination and rejection from the African American community... and that is the same mentality that started the cycle of denial that poor defenseless Eartha Mae found herself in. Thank God she managed to crawl out of that world and inspire us all!

+Euro-African Interviewer just trying doing her job to get all detail straight up, without messing every detail in one big pot under name of the "discrimination"! its obvious that it was decriminalization, but there so much details in the culture that time, why it should be ignored? And the facts of the story it self. By the way-about discrimination- I'm white immigrant in the USA- and I was discriminated many time by blacks-"African-americans" in modern time. And 'm sick and tired hearing all the time as blacks here without any reason pressing the race card!
@Eurafrican
@Eurafrican 8 лет назад
Brant Brant not just blacks that play the race card as you know. My point was the interviewer sounded like she was questioning the authenticity of Eartha's story, which is disrespectful. This isn't a police interrogation.
@brantbrant4035
@brantbrant4035 8 лет назад
Maybe not "only" blacks, but most of them, by my observation. I was surprised to see how they are treating others, even blacks from Africa, by continuously pulling attention on this subject ..most of the time just dragging attention from the problems, or their responsibility.... About interviewer side- It is important to understand exactly what does person who gives interview is saying...this is why she was re-asking her over and over..I could not draw a whole picture by short sentence which Mrs. Eartha was using do describe her experience. Questions and answers helping to add more details to the story. You just see there what you want to see..disrespect... I saw just professional work.

Wow who could we get to play her in a movie? Nobody can do the KIT KAT like she did. She is arthritic!! The voice and all U know I AIN'T lying. Even the other Kat women couldn't doooo that purrrr so puuuurrrfect!! And her laugh. Her gift broke the mode. We miss her we miss one of a kind. Bless everyone that came in this world and invented or did so much to leave the footprints they did for the world. They all had their Triumph but we are all human and deserve to enjoy our own lives. This lady is still one of a KIT KIND. The best BLACQUE cat in the world!! As like she used to be a KAT before she became Kit or the life after this one she will come back as one. My humor but she's that good She was that great. Remember a part of a beautiful History.

Yes, unfortunately, they do. Orphans still exist and they dont all become bad statistics. I'm an Orphan and anyone who knows me would tell you I'm a bad bitch and by that I mean I am strong, successful, independent and influential. We are made by being abused and neglected in the worst ways as children and still finding value in ourselves. The strongest steel is forged in the hottest fires. I been through the fire baby.

Sweet Baby Buddha preach! Abandoned kid here too! It makes you tough, and we don’t take shit. I rarely bring people into my inner circle, and trusting is not an option. I see you sweet baby Buddha, you aren’t alone 🤙🏾

ricecristi... I see you! There are very few people in my inner circle, due to trust issues as well, but I'll tell you right now that I immediately open my heart for my orphaned sisters and brothers. I do it cautiously, but I do it for them because, more than anyone, we need that love and acceptance. I hope you have found a path to healing. Please know that I love you and wish you the best. If you want to exchange contact info, I would be interested in getting to know you. It's rare for me to run into other orphans.

I had the pleasure of delivery the key to the city when the Mayor of North, Sc presented her with the key to the city. She was a very sweet person and took a picture with me in my Airborne Express uniform and sign my dollar bill for me.

Eartha was talented, a special human being, an artist who should never be forgotten. I was lucky to see her at a civic hall in Lewisham, south London in the seventies with just a few musicians, ordinary lighting and sadly not many people there. Her unique talent shone through. This was before the disco period and her great success in `follies`.

The interviewers tone and questions are rude. She asks questions and makes comments in a way that feels as if she's trying to disprove Eartha's story. Eartha was about two seconds away from telling her ass off.

I didn't think her tone was rude..Yes, she was in belief and obviously DIDN'T APPROVE of food being thrown at her. But I wonder if this boy did so , thinking he couldn't hand her food coz that would show kindness & get in trouble. Maybe he threw it at her so she'd have some sustenance while working hard. I don't think she was ready to tell her off, I think she was angry recalling how she was mistreated but was abandoned by her own family and abused by the person who end up raising her (her aunt ). Maybe the mother was attractive and the legit wife of the possible rapist (innocent til proven guilty) had her real mother send away. The way Eartha describes her mother sounded like she was attractive and tall. The Germans who were looking for her were obviously accepting of her, thinking she was their kin and she mentioned the white boy on the plantation "knew" (in reference to her being part white). it's sad the black church didn't accept ilegit children...back then, they thought they'd be going to hell for being ilegit or "a bastard." The then president was driven to tears by Eartha's speech against the war. later went to Europe and Asian where she was accepted. Both marriages she had were to white men. There were plenty of whites who saw Blacks as real people and some did love them. She went on the learn French, German and a few other languages. She was a super intelligent lady and hated the actions of certain people and was against racism and discrimination of any kind from all she lived! That's what intelligent people do...they don't turn around and behave in the same negative way they were treated.
