I wanted to say this for awhile , your daughter is a very hard worker and has good work ethics. She digs her heals in and works hard. Maybe in the future she will be building her own house. Thanks so much for sharing. 👍👍
I would have to second that... bags to bottle window... haul'n mud & help'n mom with mud'n the walls to help'n dad on the roof, solar & ditch dig'n and working with the animals. Actually all the kids seem to contribute in their own ways... Be proud Mom & Dad of your awesome kids... and kids... THANK Mom & Dad for doing alllll this for you guys... these lessens will help you through life. Well done...
First, your walls look absolutely great. Top job! Second, congratulation on your eldest daughter. It doesn't matter what kind of work, she's there! Always! Third, aren't you afraid the rain might flood those trenches and force you to redo them? Oh and fourth, I love your dog. What a happy one! So much fun watching him!
Watching you guys work so hard makes my wife and I wish we could be there helping you. We have done so much construction over the years we have a special place in our hearts for anyone doing what you guys are doing 👍👏
A couple of things 1) I do not know if it is a legal, electrical authority, or local council requirement, but it is common for electrical and water lines to have detectable mains marker tapes placed in the trench, about a foot above the service lines to act as a warning that there are water pipes, electrical lines etc below. Have you considered doing the same for your water and electrical lines? 2) The internal walls look really good.
I just want to commend the kids for all of their hard work! And Ashley!! your wall looks fabulous! And Jonathan!! your trench is beautiful! Think of the money your saving in gym fees!
The wall plastering were so interesting and I learned a lot, but the solar part was like it was in a foreign language, and I didn't understand anything 😂🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 but I still love you guys a lot. Love from a Danish old lady living in Bulgaria.
I absolutely love the music choices on your videos! It's what you would hear in Europe. Kewl!! 😊😊 Husband & I are planning to build a cob house. I'm researching a lot on it. We plan on doing a small 225 sq ft work shop/shed to begin with & learn from...I'm so glad I found your channel. You all are hard workers!! Love the humor. 👍
Omg I am so excited for your family. Ashley, your cob work is very nice!!!! My RU-vid cobology 101 knowledge is no help. So close you guys....so close. Thank you for taking us along!!!!!
I love watching your videos from here in the UK, they always seem to put a smile on my face. Your eldest daughter seems like an amazing worker, she appears to help regardless of the difficulty of the job, and just cracks on. All your children are a huge credit btw, but age differences and abilities are rightly apparent. I'm looking forward to seeing how the next stage plans out.
Awesome job on everything. You've made some great progress. A positive note on the rain... it keeps the dust down, cleans off the solar panels, water's the plants and fills up rain water catchment systems. 🤠 Have a great week!
WOW you guys, will you be completely mind-boggled after this, or will you be completely insane ? you guys are genius' and I love what do do. I give (if I could) you the OSCAR OF ALL TIME for diligence. Thank you for sharing.
Again with the great editing! Of course you are all loveable and photogenic but as a seasoned researcher I treasure the times I cannot look away! The times I don't have to fill lags with work or searches! lol The times I don't have to speed up the replay! Well done and everyone did their part! Jonathan's mention of putting a proper juction box at the three-way reminded me of a movie made about an amazing RU-vidr Chef who got fried by an unsuspecting meet-up with an early untended junction box. Charged: The Eduardo Garcia Story. I have watched it so often I could be classed a stalker! I love the character driven and in his case real life story! and great editing.
God Bless you all. A lot of hard work, but your doing it. I didn't ever think as adults we could play in the mud, but you all proved me wrong...lol Have a great week and see you next time.
'Great video! It's very impressive how much work your family does. And congrats on figuring out the plastering mix as well as digging all of those ditches for the electrical. I hope you have a long yellow rope or ribbon that you can place well above the pipe laid so that when someone digs in the future that they pull up the warning rope/ribbon before they mess-up your electrical line. For the plastering, I've seen some videos where they use a percentage of lime in the mix. I'm wondering if you were tempted to add that to yours. I hadn't seen the toilet paper usage before - so, that's quite brilliant. Aircrete Harry uses blow-in insulation paper (he buys it in bales) in his Epic mix - but he uses that on his aircrete outer dome shell for thickness and insulation of his domes. Might be too coarse for interior finish plastering. Keep up the great work. 'Looking forward to your next one. - Jim from Phoenix
You guys are doing such a great job I'm very impressed. I did see a glimpse of your swing... I just made a swing for my 11 grandkids yesterday. I took around piece of firewood the length of the saddle And an old saddle I attach the saddle to the round piece of firewood with long bolts Used the rope from their old swing and attached it to the four corners of the saddle 11:30 last night kids didn't want to go home they were still swinging on their saddle swing 👏
3,000,142 pieces? DANG!! LOL I can see how it would feel that way. My head was spinning just listening to what has to be done! I am rooting for you! You can do it!!
A hundred years from now when they are wanting to preserve this as a historic place they will have a grand time figuring out what your composition was.
Interior Walls: If you're planning on painting, I would absolutely primer first. In addition Home Depot carries a PPG primer called Gripper that I've heard from painters is REALLY effective, it only comes in single gallons though which will cover up to 400 square feet of wall. My bet is that it's got a lot of adhesives in it, and it would help seal and keep the interior surface durable and ready for paint. Conduit trench: 100% I would leave room in the conduit for more power wires, but also run an additional conduit for future expansion room, and then leave an extra pull string in each so you don't have to break out a long fishing wire. The second conduit you might use for data or something in the future, and it'd be nice to have it even if you don't really need it.
While you have the trenches open, install empty conduits with pull tape for future expansions. I would do this if it was my trench, learned this the hard tiring expensive way.
Again may I suggest Portland cement at a 9% ratio to the sand, and clay , and a fiberous material. It looks good with everything green, take care until next time, and God bless amen.
My green stalks are doing well, and the poly Tenax hardware net covers I made are keeping the birds and bunnies out! So I have basil, and cucumber and much more growing!! Wish I could send you a picture!
Longneckers are crushing! Ashley, the wall looks fantastic!!! Jonathan, I have no idea what all that stuff means that you said, but nice work😉 Loving your updates and seeing everything coming together.
Yay! We just hooked our mini split up In our airstream and it’s running fully on solar! Florida might work out after all! Btw y’all are my favorite channel❤️
Also, The kids are such hard workers and look so helpful. Such sweet kids 😊. I enjoy watching your channel, your family is such a fine example of positive family values in our country 👏🏼
Wow, is that how fine you have to sift the the soil, down to flour consistency? That is a lot of sifting! It sure looks nice! I like the lighter brown color when it goes on. I hope it dries bright. It really brightens the office up. I like the 1:1 ratio of sand to clay and I'm so amazed at your ingenuity of coming up with this earthen plaster mixture with the toilet paper and fine straw added. Kudos to you Ashley! It would be so much easier to dig a trench, not physically but mentally. Those ants that Jax and Ada found were crazy looking! I so admire your tenacity Ashley. You never give up, you just keep pushing on. The blending works sooooo well. You can't tell at all. I love the color of those bottles in the diamond window, The clear story looks beautiful. Jonathan do you know Al Lumnah's great way of putting electrical wire through PVC conduit? You blow a string through the conduit first and then tie that well to the wire and pull it through with the string. Works through turns too. I like the idea of the junction box. Good idea! I love the aerial shot of the trenches. Adali is such a hard worker, she helps with the wall plaster and then digging trenches. Jet helped a lot with the trench too. I like that you are giving yourselves some real juice with the circuits you are hooking up. You could run freezers off of a 20 amp circuit. So are you having your solar array take over the electrical for the airstream too? I thought there were 7 circuits you have run for the solar shed. Are you having a 20 amp circuit to run the minisplit too? I'm sure you'll show all this over time. It looks like you did a great job getting your wire runs and junction boxes ready for the solar power wire up Jonanthan. Can you put your batteries on a cart so you could move it while you finish the floor? I have no idea if that would be possible. Sunrise and everyone is still tuckered out! The GreenStalk looks good. I love how you can walk your livestock around, so cute. The double rainbow over the solar shed was a beautiful way to end this video, thanks. I must have blinked?
Ashley you're an artist because you take things nice and slow and do it right so it looks nice so I'm glad you didn't do the fast forward because it really shows how tedious your artwork is❣
Love you guys! Showed my fiance your videos and I already have all of the filming gear and everything. You inspired us! We are going to have to start doing some building in our residential neighborhood back yard with our shed and other out buildings but we are eagerly looking at land as well. We have looked everywhere from up in the mountains to down in the desert. Havent really decided yet but you guys are showing us that it can be done and can be done with style! Thank you for the great content and we are looking forward to more! Liked and sub'd!!
I absolutely love what you guys are doing. I only found your channel a couple weeks ago, but I’m so glad I did! You’ve given me hope that something like this is possible for our family too!
I love your soundtrack- and I love how cool it is to see the growth in your fam in such a short time! Bold, brave, and getting into a cool rhythm, making great progress! Kudos
I legit am wishing I could do something like this. I’ve only learned in the past couple years how important it is to connect to the earth with our hands and feet and it literally reboots the human body. My new plan for this summer is getting me and my daughter’s feet into the Colorado River to center ourselves. The downside is I’m so fair skinned that I’m very susceptible to skin cancer. The earth is important to us and grounding ourselves though. So this summer, we’re going to the river at sunset. But we are also at 575 ft above sea level, so it’s worse here with the heat in the summer.
Love the plastering and learned a lot. The solar and electrical however (for me) is like Greek..guess there are some who can appreciate it. I still love your videoes.
Seriously, no one does sound editing on RU-vid like your boy does - he’s absolutely brilliant at it - half the reason I watch is because the music choices are 🔥 and fit the moments so well! “Stop that” for the breeding ants was low-key hilarious 😂 My fiancé is head of post production at a pretty successful media company in London so he edits videos and sound all the time - sometimes from home, and I know how long it takes him to find the right choices of music for certain scenes- trawling through audio network for ages. He loves your sound and video editing btw (though he did suggest you use more punch cuts over jump cuts to give the feel of two cameras)
@@mrromantimothy Portland cement is use in more than concrete slabs and furniture. Check upside of down sizing the have a grate mix for southern AZ desert.
You know, there are these machines called trenchers, and you could have had it dug in half a morning. Your daughter (awesome work ethic on her part, btw-good job) needs a break, LOL!
We’re not afraid of a little hard work:) Would rather work than pay $$ to rent something (most of the time). She gets plenty of down time and isn’t required to work, she just really likes to:)
8:23 ya know those pesky ants? When they’re all together like that, just use that fancy blow torch that you use on your wood sometimes. Crispy snacks for the chickens? Lol!! 🔥🤔😂
Did you all say you’re I. The Elgin area? My family and I just started our off grid journey in the Parker Canyon Lake area and my brain is water logged with all the rain we’ve been getting. Don’t get me wrong, I love the rain like any Arizonan, but my flooring took a beating. I love watching you all and I am so amazed at your families accomplishments! Keep up the solar info, I am so lost in that world!
Put down as much mulch as you can and you won't need as much water to have green. It is also great for keeping the dust down. Downside is the crawly bugs love it too. I put a barrier of borax for that, it also helps with mice because they don't like it on their feet. Be careful it will kill almost all insects but not mammals. Unless you ate or drank a bunch, but that isn't going to happen. Its taste like soap
Is your oldest daughter an adult? The way she pitches in and is at your side seems so grown up. The kids all work hard but I can tell what a blessing she is.
You may want to try using Cellulose Insulation in place of toilet paper. You should be able to buy it at big box home improvement stores. It is used for blown in insulation and is basically pre-shredded wood fiber (aka cellulose). I recommend wetting it thoroughly before adding to other dry ingredients.
The cobs finally looking the way you hoped, that's a plus. I wonder if there is a way to channel all the rain water and pump it into a cistern? I assume the electrical will be done sometime next week...or the one after. It's weird that this page says you have 13.9 K followers. You know if you have solid plans for everything you are and will be doing that you could call up the cavalry and I'll bet folks would come from all over to help.
We have a few people that come help when we need it. It actually like doing this with our family. Gives us lots of time to talk and build relationships with each one.
Looks like great progress! I would recommend using buried marker tape for your trenches. Accidentally digging up electrical conduits is not fun. Also, I would not run solar DC electrical wires in the same conduit as AC power wiring.
I. Seen a product that you might be familiar with, that could help in daily life. Ultrasonic washing machine, throw in a bucket, tub, sink, etc. bingo, clothes clean. It's cheap
