The CV Axle does not just "pop" out when tappity tapp tapped with a screw driver and hammer, on any Tacoma that hasn't had this done prior or CV Axle off recently. It takes a lot more effort than what you see in this video. Thanks for putting the video out.

My 2Gen Tacoma has been lifted for 11 years, and I haven’t had to replace the needle bearing. Most people don't need to. The 2Gen and 3Gen are the same configuration.

@@genconex originally I wanted to change the needle bearings for a lift, but coincidentally my wheel bearing was starting to go bad which damaged the needle bearing. I ended up switching it out due to necessity. It's still the stock height though lol.

Agreed this has been one of the better bushing videos out there! I also love how you still show the easy parts, just sped up so there's a baseline of how it should look. My only critique that may help is when you're describing the tools needed, show a list of those tools to actually SEE what's needed and maybe even include parts needed by part number. Just a thought, thanks for the help!

Did you need to add diff fluid after changing it? What size socket did you use to push the bushing in with? Great video, most detailed one I’ve seen by far!
@ExtremeDIYGuy
@ExtremeDIYGuy 2 года назад
It was a 1 & 1/4 socket and the way we had angled I did not have to add any fluid as I didn't lose much if any but best to check the fluid level anyways.

Is this a factory defect with the needle bearings the reason they have to put is a bigger and wider bushing on
@ExtremeDIYGuy

No, not really. It only comes into play if you add a lift. The bushing hold up better

I wonder what are the symptoms of a bad needle bearing, I cannot feel any grinding noise or vibration but I have some play on both axle shafts. I've found many videos showing how to replace the bearing but none showing the before and after movement. Is that problem just relevant to the drivers side bushing even if there is some play on the passenger too?

I didn't need to tracks straight and tire wear is even, now if you lifted it you would need an alignment.

Is this a factory defect in the bushing, needle bearing bushing
@ExtremeDIYGuy
@ExtremeDIYGuy 2 года назад
No, it isn't/ It only comes into play if you lift the truck (Which I will be doing soon). Apparently a lift adds significant stress to the needle bearings which a bushing can handle better.

There’s a lot of how to videos that make things harder by telling you to remove things you don’t need to, this is NOT one of those videos. I took of the brake caliper and hung out of the way because it was stressing the brake line and I needed more room. This was a difficult job for me but I Never gave up got stuck immediately with tire frozen on hub finally after 50 donkey kicks it came off…then I got stuck trying to free the axle from wheel hub, used Penetrating lube between wheel hub and brake shield hit it with big hammer about 50 times before it came loose…then got stuck for about 90 minutes trying to pound Out axle from diff, finally came out with a big pry bar at inner end. Then got stuck trying to place the tool and had to chamfer edge on grinder to fit was afraid it would get Stuck then it fit better ( careful not to remove material from edge or it’ll be too small) I would recommend the install tool as well as the removal tool good luck people 🤙🏽 Big thanks for this most helpful video ✌🏽

I assume it is not necessary to replace the CV axle? Was your axle bad? And would an internal bearing/race removal tool work as well as the ECGS tool? My mechanic will install the bushing during lift install... just want to make sure his professional tools will work as well.

@@ExtremeDIYGuy what’s apparent is lack of information sharing in many DIY suspension videos. I just installed Deaver leaf springs and of the five plus videos I watched, only one mentioned the shim pack and carrier bearing drop-both are a must. Some guys even talked about having vibrations at certain speeds but were clueless as to what was causing it or how to address it. Then for this issue, I am surprised Westcott does not mention doing a differential drop. Anyway, I did not know that was an option and I will look into it now. Thanks for your help and good day.

I take the comment about the diff. drop back. I just found a video of Tinkerer’s Adventure convincing me that the drop is a waste of money. BTW-it’s a must watch video.
