Can you tell me why you keep your dominant foot in the back and not the front. When I'm thinking about it, it seems easier to keep my dominant foot in the front so my dominant hand can punch easier
@BoxingReady
@BoxingReady 2 года назад
@@cheeseboi2417 Hi there! That is an excellent question. I am assuming that your dominant hand is also on the same side as your dominant leg. You see, lots of power and speed is generated from the leg first, then hips, torso, shoulder and all that energy gets extended all the way to you hand. What you want to do is to set up your dominant hand (your cross) to become a dangerous punch. So, obliviously here, if your dominant leg is at the back and your dominant hand is your rear punch you can inflict massive damage on your opponent. That is why I recommend the dominant leg to be at the back in order to generate more speed and power for maximum damage with your cross. That been said, the idea here is that your weak hand become your jab and used as a rangefinder. Thus, you weak hand is normally on the same side as your weak leg (at the front). Obviously, there could be exception to this rule. What is important here is that you find the stance that can suit your style of boxing. Hope I answered your question properly.

I find trouble finding my stance, being left footed and right handed.
@BoxingReady
@BoxingReady Месяц назад
For a beginner boxer with a stronger left leg, adopting an orthodox stance (left foot forward, right foot back) would still be advisable. However, you can adjust slightly by placing more weight on your left leg to utilize its strength while maintaining the orthodox stance. This allows for better balance and power generation in your punches. Remember to keep your guard up and maintain mobility to effectively move in and out of range. If you prefer adopting a southpaw stance despite being right-handed with a stronger left leg, it's feasible and offers strategic advantages. Place more weight on your stronger left leg, utilizing it for power and stability while keeping your right foot forward. Develop a strong jab and straight left punch as your lead hand strikes. Use the southpaw stance to create angles, pivot effectively, and surprise orthodox opponents. Practice defensive techniques and counters tailored to the southpaw stance, and spar with a variety of partners to adapt your strategies. Consistency in training and mastering fundamentals will be crucial, regardless of your stance choice. Experiment to find which stance aligns best with your style and abilities.

I’ve never really played much organized baseball. I started playing organize sports when I was playing hockey. I would shoot the puck left-handed I would throw with my right hand and it’s always been kind of confusing which would be my dominant leg or my dominant hand is there any way of determining? Which hand is Dominic? I like to jab with my right but I prefer to throw my left but I think my right hand is more powerful. I’ll take any suggestion from anybody I wrestle and even then I never had a consistent stance with left or front leg. Thank you for any help
@BoxingReady
@BoxingReady 10 месяцев назад
You sound a lot like me! I was left-handed when playing hockey, with baseball I could hit the ball on both side (left and right), I would throw a ball with my right hand and for water-skiing (one ski) my left leg is at the back (should normally be my dominant leg, but my dominant leg for other stuff is my right leg). I have been boxing on both Orthodox and Southpaw stance and I can easily switch from one stance to the other. This video is intended to give you the basic stance with a common understanding of the basics. But there are exceptions and you are one of them. Train on both stance and eventually you may realize you are slightly more agile on one side. And use both orthodox and southpaw stance to give you a tactical advantage over your opponent. There is nothing wrong with that! Cheers

This is the stance I've been using for 7 years but I just joined a new gym and the coaches are "correcting" my stance into a more sideways bladed stance with both hands high and touching the face. I also have very good, fast, and balanced footwork but they are forcing a very flat footed stepping motion one foot at a time. It makes me move very clumsy like Frankenstein. They already told me many times I hit very hard and fast with great straight punches but have definitely improved the power in my long hooks and uppercuts by tweaking my form. Out of respect because I'm new I'm following the coaches every instruction but they won't even let me hit the bags until they make me move EXACTLY the same way as every other fighter in their gym. I really can't tell if they are making me better or worse at this point.
@BoxingReady
@BoxingReady Год назад
Hello Jean, yes, this video covers the basic boxing stance that most coaches that I know teaches to beginners. Overtime, the stance may get some adjustments since there are many other types of boxing stances. Good coaches will analyze you natural stance, the way you move, your strength and weaknesses and will make ajustements to make you an even better fighter. Everyone is different and not everyone has the same physical attributes. That’s why Mike Tyson didn’t fight like Lomachenko and Lomacheko doesn’t fight like Mayweather… and so on. I know you know what I am talking about. But, here is where I have an issue with what you mentioned. It seems like your knew gym only has one way of teaching. One way of fighting and that’s their way! It may work for some but a « one size fit all » isn’t, in my view, the way to go. Unless you want to learn their style of fighting, stay there, otherwise I suggest you find a new gym.
@TheMatrixofMeaning
@TheMatrixofMeaning Год назад
@@BoxingReady I signed up because the person who gave me the tour was himself an accomplished pro fighter, but after paying closer attention, I don't see too many other highly polished fighters. Like I said, out of respect as a newcomer, I'm taking all tweaks and adjustments seriously. But what worries me is when I watch the head coach shadow box. I have a good eye for how fighters move and how balanced and agile they are. I hit the bags tomorrow, so I'll find out how much this gym can improve my current technique without changing my whole style.

@BoxingReady
@BoxingReady Год назад
There are always exceptions to the rules. I believe that you are an exception and as long as you are comfortable in your position that is what matters most. You see, I had coaches in the past that told me to never switch to a Southpaw stance but I can fight, and feel comfortable in both stance (orthodox and southpaw). Now, I have great coaches that can see the advantage to that and they have me work on both stance. That is what a good coach do, they work at identifying your weaknesses and strength, whichever fighting stance you choose and they make you even better. So for that I say, keep the boxing stance you feel comfortable with!
