same!! My husband did all of his tv specials and I saw him fly live on stage! I couldn't believe it! This music was magical! And Michelle Kwan went on to make it her signature piece! The most beautiful of all her programs! So beautiful! Chills!
This was the novel. The 55 version was a under two hour movie, and James Dean did a great job in the role...but this miniseries had the time to do the book. Some of the acting is stiff, but Kate has never been played better.
"When I was a kid I didn't think I fit in at all. I was an only child and I lived in these apartments where there weren't any kids at my own age. So I sit outside by myself and I dream so I wouldn't feel so alone. Do you know what is my best dream? My best dream was to fly. Not in a balloon or an airplane, but to push against the air, ride the wind, and fly. Ever fly in your dream? Even today when I feel lonely or insecure I go back to that dream, and it helps leave my problems and my insecurities behind. All the answers are up there. A lot of people have dreams and they don't do anything about them. Sometimes I'm afraid that's going to happen to me. You see, I've been trying to fly for a long time. I guess if I don't stop trying then I haven't lost....." - David Copperfield
So sublime. I find it amazing this was made for a television movie. I find it hard to believe we could produce something like this for a made for TV movie today. Well done. And yes a great piece of music to skate to as well.
I have not been able to cry since my Dad died in 2005. To me it would be accepting his passing. This piece makes me cry. I agree it is sublime! I cannot believe that it has not to my knowledge won some so well deserved award
One of THE best compositions from a movie... I think it even beats John Williams' music. Incredible dynamics and great execution on the theme. The horns intertwine with the strings brings a hypnotic motif. The ending is possibly THE greatest ending ever made. Bravo Mr. Holdridge!!!
Thank you so much for posting this!!!!! I've loved this piece ever since Michelle Kwan skated to it. And I've never been able to find it before. Thanks again.
Not in an airplane or a balloon, but to push against the air, ride the wind. Do you ever fly in your dreams? I do all the time. Even today when I feel lonely or insecure I go back to that dream and it helps me leave my problems and insecurities behind...all the answers are up there. Now a lot of people have dreams and they don't do anything about them. Sometimes I'm afraid that's going to happen to me. Ya See, I ve been trying to fly for a long time now. But I guess if I don't stop trying have net loss. Well tonight I am going to try again. But before I do I want to show you a film of some people who never gave up. Its kinda funny, it's kinda sad. Yet all of them gave it their best shot and tonight I promise...Ill give it mine. D C
The opening theme with the flute solo and (possibly my favorite part of this work) the string chords suspension provides a eutrophic sense of freedom... It translate the feeling of flight so perfectly.
Lee Holdridge? I remember him from my adolescent years. I went with him to see On the Waterfront. The acting in that movie impressed me, but Lee was impressed by the music. It took me a few years longer to understand the power and beauty of Leonard Bernstein. Here's to you, Lee. Un gran abrazo.
For many years Lee Holdridge was John Denver's Arranger and Conductor; he's simply a genius, and one of Hollywood's most underrated composers. Thank-You for sharing.
hello.I'm a japanease.I've just listning his mvsic Moon light etc.The theme of harmonica knocked me out. So.I reserched his name .aod so I'litning th is music. Beautiful heart warmming.‼️ In the '70s,janease radio brordcast his music as Lee Holdridge and his Orchestra. I remember that!
I remember watching the flying on live the Dream in 1992 and when I saw David pull that off... I bawled! I was on the phone with my sister and she tried to calm me down... I would love for me to put on my cape and just fly away.... Too much Superman and Greatest American Hero I guess.... To fly and get away from my disability and wheelchair is one dream I want to have... Think I will sleep with my cape tonight....
An American Hymn I have seen a summer day that slowly opens like a rose along a quiet road that wanders by And I have smiled and wonder'd Where it goes I have stumbled through the night Alone as any man can be Then found a silent can you full of stars And in my heart I heard them telling me I was home The genlie winds, the rains that fall The tallest trees, and I'm part of it all I've seen the silver mountain tops And golden prairies on my way Now everywhere I go across the land I stand so proudly in the sun and say I am home I've dreamed of eden all my life I find it more and more each day Now everywhere I go across the land I stand so proudly in the sun and say I am home
Not that I don't appreciate all the comments about Michelle Kwan, but no comments about the brilliance of the book?? Maybe the greatest book every written. Timshel.
This is the main theme from the East of Eden soundtrack. The CD soundtrack is expensive but you can get the same orchestration from another CD compilation "Music from Lee Holdridge" from Amazon. This soundtrack is from the tv movie version (Timothy Bottoms, Jane Seymour) in the 1980s not the earlier theater version starring James Dean.
I bought it on iTunes. It's under Lee Holdridge on the album East of Eden and Other Original Scores. The most beautifully orchestrated version (the one that Michelle Kwan first skated to) is the "Finale" from East of Eden.
A fabulous title and soundtrack superior to the miniseries which it supposed to support I just wish that I could have seen it recorded live with Mr Holdridge conducting .More please ? 👵🏻 ❤️
One of the best musical scores from Lee Holdridge. Exquisitely captivating. (Despite the morbidity of the John Steinbeck novel that the movie is adapted from.)
First time listen to this from David Copperfield - Flying Magic. So peacefull and beautifull. I use this as my meditation music. Thank you for this masterpiece =))
I love how every time a corps announces the pieces they're gonna play, the youtube videos become flooded with corps-related comments. lol. This'll be Phantoms come back year I think. they'll be back where they deserve to be, in the top three. [:
Can someone tell me why this can't be realeased for your tube or Netflix, they seem to have a tight hold on showing this great mini series, I just really like Jane Seymour in this,,,Thank You

I saw an American female skater use this recently and i loved her programme.I can't remember her name though. She was skating in a grand prix and i thought thats he deserved to represent her country instead of Ashley Wagner who tends to underwhelm everyone with missed or under rotated jumps.
The best part is RU-vid's "suggestions" over on the right for videos similar to this one: "50 Cent - Many Men (Wish Death) (Dirty Version)" Really now.
