I think you are doing a great service with this video. I bought a version of this called MotoBikeJack that is sold in the U.S. At 66 I am not risking my back to pick up a bike. I dropped my 790 Duke on remote mountain road and was able to pick the bike up and ride on. I always carry it. One suggestion is to make sure to do what you did: gently lay your bike down and use your Moto Winch to pick it up. Don't do like I did and try to figure out how to use it while lying on the side of the road in the mud...

Get a lighter bike? The 790 Duke is 405 lbs., about as light as any serious road bike. But when it falls it lays as flat as a pancake, and it ALWAYS falls downhill. If you can pick that up, more power to you, I’ll take the jack.
Nice. I marvel at old guys riding heavy bikes. I have downsized to a 250cc 330 lb bike and am puzzling about how to lift it back onto a wilderness mountainside trail if it ever/when it slips off. Seeing this video, thinking ratchet strap or maybe a come-along.
Been riding 50+ years, haven't had a bike tip over in 25. Well, 2 days ago my gs tips over in the driveway. I had wondered since I bought this if I would be able to lift it doing the backwards walk. Not I know. There is no way in hell. I had no idea how difficult this would be on a bike that had no crash bars nor panniers. It was laying completely horizontal. The rear tire was at least 6" off the ground and I couldn't get the rear tire to bite in the loose stones. It just kept sliding away from me. It took me 3 long hours to get that bike up using every strap, small hydraulic jack, 6' ladder and my car to get enough leverage, plus my wife's assistance, to get the bike back up. So, that's how I ended up checking out this video!

Great video, it addresses on of the concerns I think many solo riders have. As for some of the comments saying it won't work in this or that situation, they may be right, but if it works in 50-75 percent of the time it's worth having. As you say, placing it where you have access to the kit is key. Great work on the videos.

im riding alone most of time and had such occasion in unmanned remote place and bike was heavily loaded, what was good it was sand all around and i did manage to dig a hole and get foot out, many thanks for idea!
This looks so useful! I have serious back problems, riding a Tenere 700, usually on my own, and planning a trip from Spain to Norway this year. One of my biggest worries is not being able to lift the bike in some more remote area. This looks like it would take so much of that worry away.

I just received mine yesterday and it looks like a well done device. I hope I never need it but if I do, I will be ready. BTW, customer service was outstanding with all questions promptly answered and the order shipped the next day.....unlike the one made in the USA where I haven't received a response from 2 emails and 2 phone calls....over a 5 week period. Billy, this video just cost me a lot of money. When I went to the Eastbound site I realized that my current MotoJack (which is perfectly functional) weighs 10lbs. more and is 5" longer than the Eastbound version. Taking 10 lbs. of weight off your bike is a big deal, so I ordered it. I just have to see how long it takes to get here from the Netherlands. Thanks again.

Unfortunately I finally got to use the MotoWinch: worked as advertised. My only concern is that the pieces are so beautifully machined, and fit so precisely, that you have to be careful when laying in the dirt trying to assemble it. You don't want dirt in those joints.

(I did not read all 122 comments before posting this, so apologies if I am repeating something already said). A 3rd option for the "shoe" would be a point for hard surfaces. I could see how with some sand on top of a hard surface, the winch might slip out while jacking it up.
Hi ROW. Thanks for watching and your suggestion. That does make sense although the instructions do say to have your foot at the bottom of the winch to avoid slippage. it looks like a good concept for a start but needs a lot of development. Since the rider who is using it will be under stress or anxiety it would be a lot better if the poles you use to assemble the winch where colored to their ends so even a child could assemble it without having to think. Stick red end to the red, stick yellow end to the yellow etc.
I dumped my Harley Electra Glide on a gravel road. I could not pick it up like I practiced many times due to the angle of the roadway. I finally went down the road and asked an Amish teen to help me. Together we managed to pick up the bike and he got $20 for his time. This winch will be a future purchase for sure.
You need to do from the left side (kickstand side). Everyone who "demonstrates a winch, always does the bike laydown on its right side. Thks for the "demonstrator" scenario.

Good video, but one thing I found confusing is the weight limits given for these devices. For the LC1500, it is given in the video as 220 kilos for adventure bikes, 250 kilos for street bikes (485-551 lbs), while for the LC2500 "up to about 300 kilos" (660 lbs). But according to Eastbound's website as of December 2022, the LC1500 is for bikes up to 300 kilos (660 lbs) ("MotoWinch LC1500 is suitable for lifting Street bikes or Cruisers of up to roughly 300/660lbs (low centre of gravity) and small, mid and large size adventure bikes.") While the LC2500 is for bikes over 300 kilos, with no upper weight limit given ("The LC2500 MotoWinch suitable for the heavier street bikes and cruisers of over 300kg/660lbs and large size adventure bikes.") Since this video was made two years ago, I suppose Eastbound could have revised their specs since then. In any case, unless storage space on your bike is at an absolute premium, it might make sense to get the LC2500 regardless of your bike's weight since it only costs €11 more than the LC1500.

I've been looking for a tool like this a long time. I've resorted to building three different versions of a bike jack bc I couldn't find one made commercially. I believe most ADV riders have wished they had one of these at one time or another. Many of the nay-sayers just can't admit it, for one reason or another.
HinTim. ‘Should only ride a bike you can pick up’ is one I hear a lot of. At some stage in their life they’ll need one of these. perfect match for my honda cb500x 2021. when fallen, it lies completly flat. impossible to lift either with the classic method pushing the saddle or by lifting the handlebar. this little tool lifts the bike around 45 degrees. then you turn the handlebar looking away from you and you push a bit. the bike is up. easy peasy!!!

No insult meant if that is applicable to you, but facts are facts given the upper half weight of my and your bikes ( are exactly the same..nothing has really changed for the cb500x from and including 2019 to 2021 models) I have owned and ridden....daily... the 2019 cb500x since December 2019 + I'm 185 pounds with 30 BMI ...not very strong in legs ( can barely squat 120 pounds maybe 7 times in a row ..maybe_) and I can tell you two things from experience: A. NEVER lift this bike ( as well as many others that weight the same or really over 400 pounds ) ONLY by the handle bar or even both...You'll risk very slightly bending them out of shape and you'll notice it when you're going in a straight line that one is .." off " versus the other in height and/or diagonally forward versus backward natural bend angle. I ifted mine by the handle bars once...barely got it up and found out I very slightly bend one end higher than the other side and ended up having to gently lay it down on the other side and lift it the same way to try correcting that. B. Did you not install bike crash protection.? ..... I'm talking specifically engine crash bar set ( t-rex racing has one as well as a couple of other brands out there that have been available for at least since 2020's beginning. Now HONESTLY speaking I chose the t-rex racing, ( and I don't know if some stick out left and right....FURTHER than others), and versus without it...the bike still seems to be 95% all the way down on the ground to me when it is dropped. The t-rex engine crash bar kit for our bikes includes this " puck" thing that you install onto basically kind of a centered part of the crash bars on both sides that takes the brunt of the crash/drop impact and often ( depending on if your bike is dropped on fairly level solid ground versus at odd angles versus certain objects)...ends up with the bike just a few inches off the ground versus otherwise..... --- thus...--- SAVING ... your gear selector pedal from damage/being bent.) 1st. Ensure that front brake is engaged ( velcro is your friend if you have handlebar guards like I do with Barkbusters set. If not..reasonably thick rubber band or bands. This way you can have that brake engaged without having to focus on holding it engaged. 2nd see if you can put it in 1st gear. If the bike dropped on the gear pedal selector side and you can't reach under the bike to move it or move it without risking damaging it, then fine...it's not the end of the world. Front brake being/staying engaged is good enough. === Regardless of all of this...YES..it can be lifted the normal most common way with your back facing the seat...and you focus three things: == 1. Keeping back straight even to the point of sticking your chest out and as if you're trying to intentionally look UP at the sky ( Greg Widmar.. Mmotojitsu..he knows his shit ).. 2. With arms/hands...ONLY worry about proper grip. trust in your shoulder joint muscles as you're pushing to lift the bike while maintaining grip..It's NOT about trying to use arm strength to lift, but they will feel some strain. This is inevitable. Your arms will end up fully stretched 3. The most important part overall is lift with the LEGS + as much HORIZONTALLY..pushing.....not so much..vertically pushing/lifting. AS you push alittle, walk tiny little steps.... ( I don't care if it's inch at a time When lifting this traditional way..you're basically doing a squat...but your aim is acting like you're jumping backwards into a bed...back/ass first to end up fully horizontally as far as your lifting/ aiming motion. Whether or not to have your ass against the seat...OR basically on top of it as you lift, that is something you may have to experiment with. When you're grabbing the rear cargo steel things that come stock with our bikes, DON'T grab the one that is on the right side of the bike if the bike fell on the left...and vice versa although it might seem more convenient. Grab the one closest to the side that the bike fell to to ensure a uniform arm-length stature/ grip. I dropped mine doing Motojitsu and RideLikeAPro drills just a few days ago and it took me a few tries to remember a few of this. Hope it helps. == === cheers == ===

I have the Motowinch and have used it a lot while riding off road. It's great. The Bead Breaker adapter is pretty useless in my opinion as compared to the Motion Pro tire irons. I also do not like the Motowinch tire spoons....too thick at the ends. The Axle spanner is a good option.
It looks nicer than the USA made MotoBikeJack but it's expensive after currency exchange rates for potential customers in North America. How much is shipping then on top of that? It might be priced out of my budget unfortunately.

Wouldn't be lovely if you only fell on nice hard level gravel roads , and that is where you should not fall anyway . What about those steep muddy hills where the bike always lands down hill or those river crossings with big rocks or some super soft sandy desert track . We know a GS only falls half way , try it on a fully laiden tall 650 single that lays horizontal on the ground . And what damage would it do to the throttle tube if a using on that side . I like the idea but would like to see more real world testing .
You have some valid points. A couple of points from me in reply. If on a steep slippy hill it's unlikely to work. Better trying to pull the bike around so seat facing uphill. Not ideal with a river crossing but then you can always fill the bag it comes in with stones or sand to provide a bigger base. As for fully laden 650, could quite easily cope but depends on the situation right. In reality the majority of users will be road riding or at the most hard pack dirt / gravel track. If crossing rivers and climbing steep off road hills then unlikely to be on a BMW or very heavy bike (generally speaking). I take your points though, so thanks for watching and your comments!

"I'm of the opinion you should be able to pick your bike up yourself"....yeah, that's A LOT easier when it's a BMW GS with cylinders sticking out. My bike will lay absolutely flat & there's no way I can get down far enough to pick it up. This device is on my Xmas list.

Wondering why instead of locking the front brake why not just put the bike in gear ? I do have one of these but haven’t yet used it in anger. Good quality gear.
HI there. Thanks for watching and your question. It makes senses right to put it in gear and then there should be no roll. But given but if you are on a slope there could still be movement from the front wheel that pivots on the rear wheel not moving due to being in gear. It would not take much movement of the front wheel for the winch to start tipping and then fail on the lift. Hope that makes sense? Cheers. Billy
Isn't it remarkable that in every single RU-vid video (and there are MANY of them) that shows the proper technique of picking up a motorcycle, they are picking it up against the side stand? If you want to be taken seriously, lay it down on the side stand side, pick it up with your back and then perform an instant 180 pirouette to get the stand out!
Isn't the ratchet upside down? Every other jack, bumper, bottle or low profile dolly jack lifts on the downstroke where you can apply more pressure. Great device btw.

Thanks for another great video! So my issues were not so much injuries but exhaustion from riding and a fully loaded bike. Also off road on a steeper slope like 12 or 13% with deeper sand… would that technique work in that instance…? Thanks!

Here is the info from their website relating to weight of the Motowinch The packed weight of the LC1500 MotoWinch is 1830 grams (4.0 lbs) and the package size is approximately 25x12x10cm (10×4.7×4″). The LC2500 MotoWinch package has the same length, is a bit wider due to the bigger handle on the ratchet and weighs 2230 gram (5.1 lbs). Cheers Billy
Haven’t tried that as yet. However, optional extra is the larger baseplate for it. If that does not work I would probably half fill the pouch the winch comes in and place under the winch to again increase the size of the footplate. Good luck. Ride safe. Billy

I think it is a design flaw that in order to operate the ratchet you have to pull the handle up instead of pushing the handle down. Better use your weight (gravity) to push than just your muscles (strength) to pull. Especially when your underneath the bike as you've just been in an accident...

The pole attached to the ratchet can be switched. It has a central locking pin that can be removed and the pole pulled out and put back in the other way thus making it a push or pull ratchet. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any more questions 👍. Cheers. Billy
If trapped face down then any anchor point such as panniers racks would work and using the short length, should be able to use the winch in the face down position just enough to help free you from under the bike. I may give it a go and film it. 👍🏼
Kind of what i thought, A 20 dollar ratchet strap will do the job. A ratchet strap is a useful thing you can even pull a bike out a ditch. I use a ratchet strap to secure my back pack to my bike. I would have to go find a stick or 2 x 4 or sumthin handy laying about. So the cool bit is the pipe. You are going to need a pipe preferably sections of tube long enough and strong enough. I havent bothered yet, cause I can lift my r1200GS. PS, I've dropped it both ways. usually in busy public place for max embarrassment.
But I don’t have or want that bike. Happy with the one I have got. So for some that enjoy their 1200 / 1250 this is a good option if they are either injured or unable to pick their bike up
Excellent tool for solo riders but why ride such a heavy bike off road? I have had BMW K1200 LTC, 1200 GSA and now a KTM 1190 Adv. My next bike will be something under 450 lbs wet.

I would rather get a bike i can lift rather than getting a bike too big and carry extra gear to lift it. Also i do not recomend adventure/offroad ifyou do not feel fit enough. This adventure machines are a compromise, not the best offroad, not the best on road. Therefore if you do not have good phisycal condition i would recomend owning 2 lighter bikes, one dirtbike for offroad and a light touring bike for road.

Don’t do it. Plenty of us can’t pick up the bikes we ride. In an ideal world yes all of us could pick up our bike. Even me who can pick his GSA struggles with a luggage loaded 690 enduro r a couple of years ago as was knackered from the off road riding a JD a couple of other drops. Anyone that says pick your bike up or don’t ride it is a little bit ignorant.
Looks like it might work...on hard ground like a Starbucks carpark (usual stomping ground for the big BMW gs) but it will next to useless in the dirt...even you made it look awkward and cumbersome.

Interesting video. But I'll comment. First : never ride off road alone, it's foolishness. Second : elephant big trails are made for the owner's ego and maybe an easy gravel road, not for serious off road unless you want to get in some trouble. Third If you want a serious adventure bike including true off road think about a mono-cylinder 400-600 cc no more than 150 kg 320 pounds. You go everywhere with such a bike. You do not need 100 HP on dirt where you'll go at 60 kmh, and often less. 220 pounds of luggage are useless, travel light. I made thousands of kilometers of trails and paths in all Europe and North Africa, sometimes in places so remote there was not road but just a path for mules, with a XR 400 kited 440 and prepared for long travel with true suspensions and a comfortable custom seat with no trouble. We traveled always in pair, with the same bikes so only one kit of tools and spares was needed. And we had excellent notions of first aid in case of accident.

It can be used also to get out the bike of the mud or a ditch with a longer strap, or simply a rope added to the original strap. A 3/16 5 mm dyneema halyard for sailboat has 1500 kg traction resistance and costs around 35 bucks the 10 meters length. The 4 mm, the size of a paracord, has already 800 kg. Riding alone off road is too dangerous. A very bad fall with broken bones in a remote place and you may die unable to move.
