Chris do you ever want a Conveyor to get the wood further away from ya. I am contemplating on buying a Conveyor but its alot of money just to move wood. Just asking because I am reaching the 200 Cord mark per year and we are double handling lots of Firewood

Yeah this is Kenny Western North Carolina. I fell asleep sometime between now and 12:00 this morning with your videos playing. I woke up this morning at 8:30 with your videos. Playing great great. I know some of those flares springy rounds may have tension and if the tree was growing over a creek or a river the backyard You're not going to see it or read it in the splitting wood and logging it doesn't matter. I'm glad Andrew sent you this Bigger push plate for your splitter. Eastonmade Pusher plate, Joe's firewood got his awhile back. I knew he was sending these new push plates out. I think I even told you in a past video to find out about yours. I think the uneven wear on the old push plate was probably caused by the front bolt being loose, always check your loose Nutz 🤣. Try some blue lock tight on those bolts Chris, now would be a good time to power wash your splitter. Chris, put some grease on your traitor hitch, look very rusty. Great Job Chris ! Thanks ANDREW !

There is definitely a lot of critics out there They all seem to have the answer but none of them have ever been there and done that. Just keep doing what works for you.
Very impressed that Andrew provided the upgraded part shipped with no request from you. Pretty much unheard of these days. You made an excellent choice with the splitter and the company.
Terrific video as always. I’ve been bringing an old plastic garbage can with me when I split to grab the kindling and put aside rather than having to bend over and pick up the small pieces separately. Thanks for bringing us along.
Nice work on the video Chris! I agree that splitter is almost perfect for you and most people. The one upgrade I can see to make it perfect would be a hydraulic wedge, so you don’t have to fight it every time you change wedges, and can make height adjustments on the fly. The log lift isn’t needed for most people as we aren’t splitting giant rounds. Thanks for the video!

@@Dorchwoods, for me is either Wolfe Ridge or Eastonmade. Can't go wrong with either brand from what Andrew has said. He's a class act, especially when he says regardless of brand, in the good commercial grade class, they are all good pieces of equipment.

Yes indeed! Thought of you when i went to pick up some free pine! A guy in an historical neighborhood in Missouri had a 60 foot straight pine that fell over. He cut it up all but 6 feet of the truck. It had blown over. It was botched up because he used a 14 inch Makita chainsaw that was electric. The reason why i thought of you is i never really sell pine. You talked about all your pine you had, a lady called me for next year asking if i had pine or cedar, so this is already spoken for. I hope that as fall hits, you will sell some of your pine.
I was surprised that the bottom plate was only held on by two bolts, they must have a lot of pressure on them. Totally different set up to the 10 bolts I have on the ram on my splitter. Definitely something to keep an eye on and change when you see any wear. I replace all of the bolts, nuts and washers on my splitter each year as part of my annual maintenance routine
The hydraulic cylinder on the Ultra is mounted on a fixed plate rather than a pivot point, so the ram mount shares the rotational loading of the push plate.
@m9 ovich like I said, it’s a totally different set up to my splitter. My splitter ram does not sit in a track, it rides along a beam, 4 bolts to hold it in place would not be enough given the 32 tons of pressure it produces to split a log. It was interesting to see this different set up
@m9 ovich you might not think it’s much movement, but after I had a slither of wedge shaped wood get under the ram head and jam it, I can say that the movement is enough to cause problems if there’s not enough strength. And like I’ve said it’s a different set up.

Mine is on order. Only one more year to wait! I'm glad they have made the improvement to the push plate. It seems to me that it really reduced the amount that the big blocks would kick out and it would continue to power through the nasty stuff where before it would just spin off. 👍👍To eastonmade for listening to it's customers and making the necessary improvements. My avalanche splitter has a used lawn mower motor and still splitting. I have been steaming Aronia Berry Juice, Butchering chickens and turkies for folks. and cutting wood to split as I have time.
Nice new wedge Chris sounds like a hardened metal as well different shape at the base it won’t be digging into your decking anymore all the best let’s see where this one or should be quite a task
It’s probably not a bad idea to once a month or so pop the push plate off and clean under the plate and and stuff like that keep it free of gunk build up. Maybe even knock those sharper edges down like you would on your saw bar. Love that machine. I can’t wait till the day comes that I can get the 22-28. It’s a bit of a ways out for me to get one though. Lol
Hi Chris, enjoyed your video! I realise that it is an annoyance when your viewers try to give you ‘friendly’ advice. However, I also understand that your ‘viewing community’ watch your blogs a. because they like firewood, splitters and all that goes with it; and b. because they like to feel ‘included.’ When all said and done it is good, well intended, interaction! You have made it abundantly clear that you do what you do for profit (and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that) but also the exercise! We all accept that…..but we also want to like you and befriend you! Hence all of the advice….and notwithstanding the odd comments from the occasional lunatic, it is all submitted in good faith! When I was in the ‘timber’ industry, albeit in a small way, I enjoyed my work for the very same reasons as you. However, I always tried to avoid ‘double’ handling….it’s not productive and there was always a sense of achievement in finding ways of making the job easier! So, I always try to advise on that particular facet of your work! Others, I know try to advise you on other things! To sum it all up….speaking for myself anyway….Yes you make get heaps of repetitive advice, and most will be erroneous….but what the hay…..we all like you for what you do, and we are just trying, in our own inimitable way, to help!

I have many old American friends, and value their friendship! Chris is a great character, and I find his videos very informative and relaxing! However, he is only human like the rest of us, and from time to time must get frustrated with the ‘same old, same old’ stuff! The firewood industry over here is by no means as advanced as in the US! So, we had to be rather more inventive on the ground! As I said before, it was always a challenge to overcome double handling! By all means work hard, but productively! But I have to admit it is hard when 10,000 people a day watch your every move and want to be your boss! HA! @@garylaszewski7380 Hi Gary, yes...the Germans & Austrians in particular used the type of boilers you are talking about, I have seen many myself. Subsequently, I am sure they have some cutting edge technology now, with regards to stoves etc. I have a iron 5 kw stove in the lounge, with a top mounted fan....boy does it chuck out some heat. I prefer logs 10 inches long for it. Regards, Robin Hood, I originate from a place call Ollerton, in Nottinghamshire...which is at the heart of Sherwood forest. In reality there is very little left now, but there is an Oak tree, called ‘The Major Oak’...(in Edwinstowe) that is reputed to be over 1000 years old. The tree is hollow (trunk) and it is said he and him men used to hide here to avoid the Sheriff of Nottinghams men. Of course this is mythical, but nevertheless a charming tale. If you want to go and see it for yourself, you need to be in Edwintowe (Nottinghanshire) and the tree / museum is only a 20-minute walk from the center of the village.
Very nice upgrade - I think you will see an increase in production with the single wedge. You will be able to stack the ‘slabs’ and get more pieces per push. But, then again, it takes time to stack the slabs, and your splitter seems pretty fast. Time will tell - have a great day

@@InTheWoodyard I just thought I would ask Andrew about it seeing that JPF Joe has had his for quite a while already. I thought he would have gotten one to you sooner than he did. Seeing that you give him a lot more quality exposure with the Ultra than Joe does. So I didn't think it would hurt to ask about it. Maybe I helped it come faster and maybe I didn't. Just glad to see you got it. I'm sure it's going to work a lot better on the bigger blocks than the old one. Especially if you want to double up the flat ones.
You are such a good salesman for Eastonmade that I visited their website. I see now they come with a Vanguard engine while yours has the Honda. I've never had a Vanguard, but we all know Honda engines are reliable. Hopefully this wasn't a bad change by them.
Chris - I bet the bolt loosened up from the wear not the other way around. The plate could be symmetrical and so reversed and have equal bearing on the rails. Bob in Nevada
You need to be a salesman for Eastman's wood splitters cuz you make a good one know that you're a very good knowledgeable person on it and don't let the criticism from others about you splitting wood because they don't know what contains about splitting wood wood has its own genetics on how you split it and you can help that it doesn't split the way you want it to you just have to go with the flow that's my opinion
Good morning Chris. I use good quality washing up liquid to lubricate my splitter, it's slippy as hell, works perfectly and it weather's off the split wood. Works for me😁
@@InTheWoodyardgreen Fairy liquid is the best I find. I'm assuming that it'll be available where you are,its in every supermarket in the UK. If not go for the thickest brand you can find. My splitter is an upright model but see no reason why it won't work for yours too.i just squirt plenty onto the parts that rub/ slide. See what you think.👍

That's what I'm thinking. Another few years of keeping that going, and then the bilt threads would chew themselves up, and it would probably start getting jammed up and chattering more as it slides.

It’s a game changer, made a huge difference in the stuff that I have been splitting lately. Did you learn how to put it on by watching my video of me putting it on? 😉 I use grease on the rails. Oh and BTW Chris you look 10 years younger clean shaven.
I think adding some poly, like one of those roll-up cutting boards, cut to fit the pusher on the top and bottom of the beam would be a decent way to limit wear on the steel.
@@dethmaul I've used laundry detergent bottles and taped them to the tire iron on the Harbor Freight tire changer, never thought to heat the piece up and form it.
Hey Chris! That ultra is a very nice machine! I have a big box brand and it's good for now. Maybe someday... anyway, I had an idea as I watched you change to the 4 way wedge. If you cut a block of wood to the exact height you want the wedge to drop in, you could place it under the cross section of the wedge and not have to use one hand to hold it and the other to put the pin in. Just an idea 💡

Am giving serious thought to getting an Ultra over the Wolfe Ridge splitters after what you said about taking the chainsaw and ripping the rounds in half. Compared to the Wolfe Ridge splitter model I want, the Ultra is half the price. The money saved would be three truckloads of logs.
Be careful working around the hydraulic ram, if you rest or hit the shaft of the ram and scratch or dent it, you could end up damaging the oil seal when you retract the ram as the damaged part will tear and damage the oil seal. As a result you would need a new ram and seal.
Now that you’ve installed the new larger push plate on your Eastonmade Ultra and got it all tuned and oiled up you’re ready to do like the song says… Push it, Push it, Push it Real Good 👍

Armchair wood splitters are good at giving advice. If they actually split any amount of wood themselves all you show they would comment " That's firewood for ya"
When splitting like say 16in logs or 18 in logs(hard wood, , or other hard woods) ..do you feel like the 4way or just single is better. And the more notes the more difficult, just in general. And why do you have my box knife?
The 4 way is better for speed and multi splits but the single gives you a more precise and even split and is better on crotches and knots. I use the 4 way 90% of the time for speed.
You know I’ve been thinking the ultra would be slick if it could run the 6 way. I’d be really interested in it if had that ability. Partly due to my wood source being tree service wood so it can be some seriously wild logs. That’s kind of why I’m looking at the big 22-28 and for long term use it would be one piece that would cover everything I get for wood. What do you think. The cost of this machine is really enticing though compared to the 22-28 with a conveyor
