I think a big Mason Jar full of this wonderful Granola would make a super Christmas gift with a pretty bow, gift tag and scoop. I would add in some dried, plump cranberries and maybe a few twirls of dark chocolate. It would certainly be a Special Christmas Mix!!! Thank you for the inspiration. ❤❤❤

Sara, I learned by accident, that chopping nuts of any kind works best on a tea towel or cup towel. I fold mine so I have a couple of thicknesses. What the towel does is keep the nut meats from flying away.then I just pick up the towel by two corners and let the nuts slide into the bowl. Shake the towel and toss it in the wash.

The chopping process is one of my favorite things to do and I generally don't use my food processor unless there is a large amount needing chopped. I can't wait to try your recipe. Granola at the store is so expensive. For a little time and work people can save a lot of money if they have been buying it pre made. On tip I would offer is to be sure dried fruit doesn't have an oil on it that can go rancid. Dried cranberries, which would be awesome in this, are normally coated with oil to keep them from sticking together from the added sugar they contain. Coconut shreds would be wonderful to add...they would roast up nicely during baking. I might add pistachios, pecans, or blanched sliced almonds...or my favorite hazelnuts! Roasted nuts add so much flavor. Thanks for the inspiration and recipe Sarah ❤

We love granola, and I make it all the time. I use butter instead of coconut or other oil, and I like to add a tsp of vanilla and two beaten egg whites to the cooled butter/honey mixture. I also add raw cashews to the oats. As the baked granola is cooling, I add chopped unsweetened dried cherries and sometimes chopped prunes or raisins. The egg whites help the oats bind together, giving us chunks of granola instead of just individual oats. It also helps the cinnamon bind better. The butter adds a wonderful flavor, and we eat it very quickly, so I'm not concerned about any potential rancidity from the butter. We love it on top of vanilla Greek yogurt topped with frozen blueberries - that's a favorite breakfast in our house!

@cathyblasco4497

I haven't done it (prefer loose granola), but just before they are fully toasted you'd mix in some egg whites and press into the pan. This will give you bars. The number of egg whites depends on the amount of oats you're using, of course. Also, vanilla, coconut flakes, dried papaya, and dried pineapple are a few of my favorite add-ins. This will be really good with your future yogurt from Hope's milk!

My family's health has been greatly improved by eliminating sugar/carbohydrate and so a version for those who's bodies run on ketones instead of carbs, try crushed plain pork rinds, (instead of oats) and Lily's brand dark chocolate chips(after it's cooled!) and macadamia and Brazil nuts chopped w pecans. We would use egg whites frothed/whipped to soft peak to toss the ingredients in so the stevia/erythritol blend and cinnamon/nutmeg(or pumpkin spice ) will stick. It's a great flavor for a keto version. Also you can add dehydrated berries vs high sugar bananas or apples. Of course, we don't worry so much about the fats, but it's not necessary with the keto version : line the pan with parchment :) 💞Gratitude for your homestead and commitment to showing us your tips and tricks!

I also make my own granola and I use peanut butter instead of oil (or a mix of peanut butter + another nut butter like almond). I use puffed brown rice or quinua to replace some of the oats, which makes the end result even crunchier. I always varry my mix-ins, but try to include more seeds like chia, pumpkin and flax, and a variety of nuts and fruit (dried cranberries, almonds, Brazil nuts, walnuts and more). It's all over the place, but I like the surprises when I eat it 😃 Last tip, is to use some vanilla to the whole thing. The easiest way is to grind your brown sugar with a piece of vanilla pod, or use powdered pods. A pinch is enough to give everything a lovely scent

Reminds me of when I would visit my Mother-in-law. She had food sensitivities and this was perfect for her. Have you ever made your own brown sugar? So good. You can get the unsulphured blackstrap molasses at Azure and use your own sugar and mix it in your kitchen aid. I use 8 cups of sugar and about 1 cup molasses (about 2 Tablespoons per cup) More molasses if you want it darker. Just mix it and store it in one of your jars.

In Britain we have something call flapjack ( it’s not pan cakes like American flapjack) which is made with rolled oats. It’s like a traybake version of granola and can be cut into bars. This may be more conducive to a travel snack than granola. If you want to try it let me know and I’ll post the recipe xx

Here are my three favourites recipes- the kids love them and all three can be added to using different fruits, nuts seeds, flavouring etc. Sorry the measurements are in weights not cups but I’m sure you’ll be able to convert accordingly: Fruity flapjack (no sugar) Ingredients * 200g dried dates * 100g dried figs * 200g porridge oats (rolled oats) * 75g cranberries * 75g blueberries * 2 tbsp flax seeds * 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon * 1/2 tsp vanilla extract * 2 tbs pumpkin seeds * 1 tbs honey Method: Preheat the oven to 200°C (gas mark 6/400°F). Roughly chop the dates and figs. Pop them into a pan and just cover with water. Simmer for 30 minutes until you have a sticky gooey mixture. Meanwhile, spread the oats over a large baking tray and toast in the oven for 5-10 minutes until pale brown. Leave to cool while you prepare the rest of the ingredients. Once the dates and figs are ready, pour them into a large bowl and add the cranberries, blueberries and flax seeds. Stir well to combine then leave to stand for 10 minutes. Turn the oven back on, this time to 150°C (gas mark 2/300°F). Line a tin with baking paper (leaving an overhang of paper for easy removal). Stir the remaining ingredients into the bowl and mix well. Tip the mixture into the tin and press down well with the back of a spoon. Bake for 15-18 minutes until golden Leave to cool a little before slicing into pieces. Put in an airtight container to store (if it lasts that long) You can use other combinations of berries, dried fruit, nuts and seeds and even choc chips to suit your tastes but you need some combination of dates and figs to act as binding agent. MARMALADE FLAPJACKS Ingredients * 250g Porridge Oats (rolled oats) * 1 tsp Cinnamon * pinch salt * 1/2 tsp Baking Powder (not soda) * 125g Butter * 75g Golden Caster Sugar * 1 heaped Tbsp Golden Syrup (corn syrup?) * 100g + 50g Orange Marmalade (I use homemade) Method Preheat the oven to 150°C (gas mark 2/300°F and Line a 20 x 30cm cake tin with nonstick baking paper. Melt together the butter, sugar, syrup and 100g of marmalade over a low heat in a good sized pan. Stir in the oats, cinnamon, baking powder and salt and mix until well combined. Tip into the prepared tin and smooth with the back of a metal spoon. Bake for about 20 minutes or until the edges are just beginning to turn golden. Melt the remaining 50g of marmalade and paint it over the top with a pastry brush. Cut into bars whilst still warm, but don't attempt to remove until completely cool. Apple flapjacks 10 mins to prepare and 25-30 mins to cook Ingredients * 250g butter * 250g caster sugar * 175g golden syrup * 425g porridge oats * 2 apples, peeled, cored and chopped into small cubes Method Preheat oven to gas mark 4, 180ºC, fan160°C. Line a 20 x 30cm cake tin with nonstick baking paper. Melt butter, caster sugar and golden syrup together in a pan, stirring until sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat and stir in oats and apples. Spread mixture in tin and bake for 25-30 minutes. Cut into 12-14 bars; allow to cool before turning out of the tin. Tip: If you find the flapjack too moist, try grating the apples and squeezing out any excess juice before adding it into the mix. You can also replace 2 apples with 1 apple and 50g dried apple. Hope you have a go they’re really easy and great for snacks or breakfast on the go. My grandson likes the marmalade ones as he’s a great fan of Paddington Bear xxx enjoy xxx

Dried peaches and nutmeg is good. Apples and cinnamon. Orange cranberry (so good)! Just make sure to fine grate orange zest and rub it into the sugar to pull out the natural oils and flavor. Also roasted pumpkin seeds and pumpkin pie spice. Another great video! I was going to pull the last of the summer garden and plant my fall starts, but now I'm making granola first.

Great recipe! We love granola! That will be delicious with your homemade yogurt from your family milk cow!😃 We like Golden raisins or cranberries, dried blueberries, pineapple, mango, unsweetened shredded coconut, dark chocolate chunks. The list is endless! ❤️

Your recipe is similar to mine. We add coconut and I've been playing around with the ratios of honey to butter. Our recipe calls for wheat germ but I quit adding it because the kids would call it "Colon Blow," not such a good thing at school... ;) We keep ours in a gallon jar with a measuring cup as a scoop.

We have found that we enjoy using Molasses mixed with regular sugar in place of brown sugar. Mix one tablespoon of molasses to one cup of sugar to make one packed cup of brown sugar.
