Easy DIY Modern Farmhouse Barn Door

Love the “Girls Can Use Power Tools” idea! I’m a 33 year old single mom, and I just learned how to use a power drill. Now I am tackling our pocket door.

It's beautiful! I would suggest using wood filler though to fill the gaps and holes. Glue will peel off over time and it doesn't contract and expand during weather changes like filler or caulk. But you did give me some ideas! I'm making a door today for my husband's office.

This door turned out awesome!! When it's time to makeover our bedroom I plan to do a sliding door for the bathroom too. Our door opens into the bathroom and hits the jacuzzi tub. Hey maybe I will make it myself😁

Used your video as inspiration to make a 72" door for a large opening in my basement. Turned out great. I used heavy duty construction adhesive instead of wood glue and didn't need to do any nailing. Just put down some weight on it for 24 hours. Also used particle board instead of plywood. Cheaper and easier to paint. Thanks for the video, couldn't have done it without it.

Love it! I just screamed that out loud. lol! I had asked my dad if he could to make me a barn wood door with wood that I dug out of my neighbors yard that probably was there for 5 years plus we believe it was old wood flooring at one time. The best part was all the holes & the color he found after sanding all the dirt, grime & old the stain off. I had to many ideas of what I wanted so I left it to my 84 year old dad with the help of my daughter over 4 summer’s ago while my parents escape the AZ desert heat up north to there cabin. He make a master piece. I just gave him the measurements of the entry into my master bath which had no door in the beginning but does have a pop out. I was thinking it was going to be so difficult to find a track but my dad came through and made his own with scrap iron from his business & even the rollers were scraps. He already had the bolts to be used for the track & the ones he put throughout the side & in the middle of the door’s frame. He went with a herringbone style that he had just finished doing the backsplash& a wall in the cabins kitchen. I believe the herringbone idea was my moms that was done in the kitchen yet he decided to lay it different then what we usually see. It’s is a very difficult way to lay but it was nothing to my dad. He had enough wood to do both sides with a 1 inch plywood that he had left over from remodeling the cabin’s kitchen counter to put in the middle. It’s supper heavy & took 3 men to get it upstairs to my room. The handle he even just had a hair brain idea & used some left over oak wood & piping that is used on a hot water unit. So be sides the fantastic time he had with my daughter the door cost nothing. It is truly a masterpiece like yours. Mine will definitely be handed down to my daughter since according to her she practically made it. Lol! Sorry for my long story but I love seeing everyone’s own style put into a home made barn door. Fantastic job! Not sure if you mentioned the total cost of yours.

Hey Jessica, ooh Girl it looks so Good. I love the barn doors. I would love love love to have 1 for my bathroom like you have. I would love to take a class on how to install these doors. I need one for my kitchen that leads to my washing area. There is an opening there, so I would just need to hang it. These doors are so expensive at the stores.... tyfs! So about 50$ and you made a barn door? Just Amazed. I wish I had a few hundred dollars to be able to make 4 doors total. I love the black tracking kit, bit you could paint the silver metal that you chose. Or you could paint it copper! I love to watch these tutorials. I would want a stain, like the walnut from Minwax. Our doors get so dirty very easy at our home. Lovely, just pretty. ❤❤🤗👏🙏. God bless.

My bathroom is very small and by changing the location of the door gives me a little more room in the bathroom

Good job on the door. I would secure that header board with screws into the studs. 18 gauge nails are not strong enough to hold that.
