EASY FISHING A very short session on a Tiny Stream.

Easy Fishing

I had driven over what looked like a ditch for many years,with hardly any water running through! But last year the local farmer had cleaned it out to prevent flooding and with a couple of hours i decided to explore it and find out if it held any fish. To be honest i thought it would be a waste of time but years of fishing tiny waterways has taught me never to ignore any waterway, no matter how small.

Never ignore any waterway no matter how small because they contain some good fish. I know a tiny stream which holds barbel well into double figures plus huge chub, dace and roach. So I explored this tiny pool on a mere ditch and I loved it!! So ditch that big seatbox grab minimal gear and go exploring! Bill

You are spot on Bill I’ve been fishing a long time but I still love watching you fishing, and the effort you put into making a video for us oldies and more importantly the up and coming young anglers, you know your craft no two ways about it and you are always smiling well sometimes especially if one good bite gets away lol. I raise my hat to you Bill. Tight lines 👌

Michael W hi and thank you but I would not feel comfortable raising money that way. I get my rewards when people meet me and tell me how much they enjoy my video’s! I may get some money from adverts from RU-vid in the future but I’m not really comfortable with that either! Hopefully in the future I will have enough money to buy a better camera and sound equipment but I started Easy Fishing to help anglers catch more fish not to make money. Neither am I looking for a sponsor because I will never tell people to buy this product it’s this years latest must have! Perhaps I’m too old school! Bill

Bill, you're one of the most caring anglers I know, take no notice of the armchair / keyboard fisherman who accuse you of leaving hooks in the fish, you'll always come across these instant experts in every type of activity, whatever that may be, there will always be an 'expert' hovering about like a bad smell! This small stream fishing is my favourite type of thing, I'll leave the monster fish to the people who crave them, I'd rather have a nice session like you've just had, anytime! All the best to you and yours!

Some of those small streams require beefy tackle. I used to walk over a similar bridge on the way to work, and on the rare days the sun permeated the depths, the were some huge chub under the flotsam. They came out for a morsel for a fraction of a second and were straight back in. An angler would have needed lightning reactions and hit and hold gear to be in with a chance. Anyway, very entertaining session, Bill!
@easyfishing1936
@easyfishing1936 4 года назад
Borderlands Hi I fish in situations like that and I do have quick reactions and don’t mind using 8 lb line straight thru’ with a big forged hook, usually a Drennan Super Specialist and a more powerful rod. I just use either a big single bait or as in this case get them feeding confidently with likky and casters so they engulf the bait in one gulp. Bill

Ignore the idiots who aim criticism your a very experienced Angler anf clearly wouldn't ever intentionally harm any fish sometimes its safer to leave a gut hooked hook in to stop it bleeding to death hooks rust and can be digested thanks for the video Bill keep them coming

gavin mcnamara Hi and thank you for the nice comment. I don’t think I have left a hook in a fish when I have landed it for over 50 years. I have lost fish of course that have taken me into snags as on this occasion but that is beyond my control, which is why I tend to play chub hard to prevent them reaching snags. Bill

Hello Bill, from across the pond. I don't know if you believe this but, in the sixty's we would eat our bumpy headed chubs. With all the building in the seventy's, the streams got load with so much pollution it became unsafe to eat them. I am old enough to remember "Fried chub sandwich's". Best wishes from south Florida.

@bigbunnyonthemove3622
@bigbunnyonthemove3622 4 года назад
@@easyfishing1936 Must be different, I can see your chub have bigger scales. Our chub, sometimes call a Horned Chub had a number of bumps on the snout. The country folk called them bumpy headed chubs. The texture was more like a lake trout, kinda mushy but good. I live in south Florida now and my favorites are Mangrove Snapper and Grouper. Well all I can say is keep your finger on the line and best wishes from south Florida...

A big like from me down here in Oz, Bill!! Made my morning on a day when I am housebound and dreaming of fish! Really love pulling good fish from tight water myself. For me, it's black drummer (Eastern rock blackfish aka pigs) in among shallow rock-studded gutters along the coastal fringes south of Wollongong. Fish from 4lbs - 10 lbs go really hard and you can't give them an inch (though sometimes you have to let a really big one run as a big pig will dictate the terms of the fight). By-passers often can't believe that you've pulled such a quality fish from such shallow, gnarly water yet, it's that very environment which provides fish equipped for this rugged environment with so much food and so many feeding opportunities. Really hope your health improves, Bill, and you can get out for more short sessions as you're such a knowledgeable fisherman who embraces the true essence of fishing and often enjoys its simplicity, something I feel is so important in these manic times where everything is moving at a horrible rate of knots!
@easyfishing1936
@easyfishing1936 4 года назад
Frank Saunders Hi well your fishing sounds like great fun. The fish you describe sound like our Wrasse which live in similar places and devour hard back crabs and fight well on light but not too light tackle. If time allows I want to have a go for them this summer. Bill
@franksaunders6534
@franksaunders6534 4 года назад
Yes, Bill, you're right. They're like a wrasse but one on steroids with a powerfully built thick body, paddle like tail and small mouth which demands a relatively small but extra strong hook. They respond very well to bread burley (ground bait) and I am sure with your liquified bread and an extra large bread punch bait you would have a ball. When you find yourself stuck indoors next, have a look at this footage taken after rough weather had pushed large numbers of black drummer in among a shallow boulder strewn gutter. I'm sure you will find it interesting: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pd-LDvYTj5Q.html

stephen o neill Hi well I’m glad you have found my video’s. It’s funny how we go to Ireland for the fantastic coarse fishing and I have been about twenty times and loved it, so I was surprised you hadn’t fished for the coarse fish. As to your question we have most types of fishing including game but river caught salmon are rare and to rent a beat is prohibitive! You will need a rod licence where ever you fish and they can be bought on line or from the post office. Now in the Reading area there are a few small rivers but most will be club controlled tho’ some will be free or day ticket. The best bet is to find the local tackle shops and ask for their help. They will know about most small rivers and streams in their area so can advise you much better than I can but I do know there is some very good fishing in the area. There are carp lakes trout lakes all sorts in the are and I don’t know if you want to catch big fish or just fish for whatever comes along and your tackle choice will reflect in that. A good Avon type rod will serve you well. Look for one about 11 ft with a test curve of 1 to 1 1/4 lbs, Drennan do several of these and are very good. I’m lusting after their new Twin Top 1 lb test curve model but at 12 ft it might be a bit long for a small river work. An alternative is a commercial carp method feeder rod and they are great on small rivers as well and this is the type I’m using in this video. Hope this helps. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have more question and Easy Fishing has a Facebook page where you can leave your question and I will get back to you Bill

That was a great session, Bill. Thank you very much for sharing. Honestly, there’s nothing wrong with those kind of fish anywhere. I do find it a shame, however, that such a nice fish has Such an unappealing name, “chub.” Thanks again. David, South Carolina

huttonista dav Hi I don’t mind the name and I love the fish and they are sort after in the uk. A big fish is a beautiful brassy colour and they will eat anything they can get in their huge mouths, feed in the coldest weather and found in most running water and some lakes. Bill

Watch the day after Ciara! A breath of fresh air I can tell you. Bill, is that stream a club water? Or did you seek out the farmer? I’m looking at a smaller stream I use to take my boys to when they were nippers (now47-45!) oh my aching bones!! I do know it’s changed hands a couple of times over the years so I’m going to have my time cut out doing some digging me thinks. Huge thanks for all your time and hard work bringing us these great adventures. Kind regards Clive from deepest Dorset.

Another great video Bill. I'm a novice and learning with every post you make. My apologies for what many would consider a silly question but could you explain the rig you were using and why it seemed to change part way through the video. Regards Dave.

Dave Perry Hi yes of course. I started fishing for roach with a running link ledger. That is a free tuning swivel bead stopped with a gripper stop on 5 lb line with a hooklength of 3 lbs. the link was just a few inches of line with a swan shot pinched on. I started expecting roach but as soon as I lost the first chub I removed the hooklength and tied the hook onto the mainline . Bill
