There is a huge choice of lines on the market and i will just give a quick rundown on what lines i use and for what type of fishing. I know many people will have their own choice of make or type but this is what i use and recommend. Bill

I once snagged a nice pike lure and was determined to get it back. With 80 lb braid, a solid trace and a double Palomar knot, I managed to bring a tree from the river bed close enough to the boat to retrieve the plug. Never use hands to do this, you can slice a finger off, always something solid to wrap line around.

We have been catching fish on mono ever since it was made. Now it's just a money spinner as fishing gets very technical now. I doubt anyone could catch more fish on modern line than an old line. Pity you did not have a wider range of line other than mainly Drennan and a Drennan hoody lol. At the end of the day it's down to what you can afford and what you prefer. Sorry for the negative comment. Stay safe Bill.

Hi well modern mono is a whole lot better than the stuff I started with! I didn't show other makers line as I don't use them after many trials and as the title states I'm showing what I use and what for. I have tried most makes and used to use Preston Powerline a lot but not any more. In the old days it was horrible Sylcast in heavier strains, Maxima which is greatly understated in diameter and Bayer. Modern lines are so much better in every way and note I recommend a very cheap tried and tested line for those on a budget. Supplex flurocarbon is definitely better than mono for many applications. I have an open mind about tackle so if a better item comes along I will assess it. Bill

Hi Bill! I hope you are well? Thanks for the video - very interesting. Everyone keeps going on about "you must use Braid" these days - I tried it on one of my big F/S beachcasting reels, and every other cast, I was getting wind knots & tangles halfway between the rod & the end tackle after a cast, so I've gone back to 20lb mono. Love Mr Furby - he sure is a fine Cat! Everyone I sub to has been putting out so many videos during this awful Lockdown, I'm struggling to keep up! Stay safe - stay well!

Hi well two things with braid on the beach. First it needs to be wet before casting this helps it peel of the reel smoothly and second if you let the line go slack after casting it can wind knot. Nanoline performs much better but needs care with the knots ie don't use half blood knots, the uni knot with plenty of turns and the albright knot are problem free Bill

Hi Nanoline has been around for ages just make sure you use the correct knots, which is where a lot of anglers go wrong then say the line is useless, a similar thing applies to using braid as well and some anglers refuse to use it but used correctly the modern super lines have many advantages. My dog and my cat have made guest appearances before and no doubt will again Bill

Cheers Bill . I only started using braid about three years ago and I learnt the hard way about tying knots in that stuff.

Very informative Bill. I'm old school and only ever used monofil. Still grade line by breaking strain as well. 🤔 👏👏👏
@easyfishing1936
@easyfishing1936 4 года назад
Hi well using line by test is fine if the information given is correct but all to often it is not. I prefer Drennan lines as the quoted diameter is correct and the breaking strains are for knotted line and that's is important. On that point knots can reduce bs considerably hence why I only use knots that have minimal impact on line strength ie grinner or uni and improved figure of eight loop knot and the Albright knot. Bill

@@easyfishing1936 Thanks Bill, glad Mr Pledge got a mention, I use it to clean both my rods and reels, helps to waterproof them, I also use a cotton bud on the rod eyes, they get very dirty, saves wear on both eyes and line and help for smooth casting no end.

Hello, hope your all well. Thanks yet again for your latest vlog, very informative, I tend to buy Diawa Sensor in bulk, in 2lb, 4lb,6lb and 8lb B.S.. I will look more closely in future. We both fell in love with MR Furby, excuse spelling, we have two cats, one we got ourselves, the other adopted us. You mentioned using washing up liquid to improve sinkage, how do you apply it? Thank You again, take care.
@easyfishing1936
@easyfishing1936 4 года назад
Hi Daiwa Sensor has been around for years and I used to use it. Get one of those one spray oil bottles from the supermarket and when empty rinse and fill with diluted washing up liquid and just spray on the spool to get the line to sink. Bill

Hello and Thank You, I shall put this to good use, asap. I have been told if you have a lake etc., within a kilometre you can fish for 2 hours (alone). I do, I have a harbour, so after checking with the Garda, I went down yesterday . Sadly I caught nothing but walked away with a big smile, talking to the a bailiff he told me the fish move out to the lough to spawn at this time. I did not help, the maggots had been in the freezer for a month, I took nothing else despite corn, bread and pellets being available. Thats for another day. Thanks again for taking the time to help me out. Take Care, Regards Phil

Learned something new as I always do from your videos Bill. Thanks. Quick question, you said that the unifilament needs the right knots because it's so slippery. By that, do you mean we should always use a Grinner, Albright or Figure of Eight, even when fishing the unifilament right through to hook? Apologies if you said so and I missed it. Sounds a bit daft now I've written it down, unlikley to tie a hook with an Albright! Keep safe lad.
@easyfishing1936
@easyfishing1936 4 года назад
Hi i only use Nanoline for mainline and always use a seperate hooklength of mono or fluorocarbon. For knots i only use an Allbright knot for attaching a shockleader, other than that use a 5 turn uni knot or a grinner knot for attaching swivels etc. For loops use a figure of eight knot. Bill

Hi Bill. That's shed some light on a mysterious subject for me. After lockdown, I want to try feeder fishing for the first time. I've got myself a cheap rod rated 4-8lb with 6lb mono. What line/strength would you load the spare reel with to give a bit of variety? (Given that I don't know what I'm going 🙂). I'll probably be trying the canal and local pool to start with. Many thanks.
@easyfishing1936
@easyfishing1936 4 года назад
Hi well 6 lbs line sounds about right and the spare spool I would probably load with 4 lbs mono for lighter lead work. Make sure you load the spool to within about 2 or 3 mm of the lip of the spool under moderate tension with the line wet This helps it bed down and cast better when you first use it. Bill

Some interesting thoughts, thanks Bill. Do you have any suggestions for bought Jelly Hooker Pellets plz? I've tried many, but they all seem to crumble even with a baiting needle and have little give in them.

Hi well I make my own jelly pellets for straight hooking and don't hair rig them. I'm going to be trying the new sonubaits pro expanders as you can push a quickstop thru' them. Try the ready prepared versions if you are unsure. Bill
