Every time Jay has a lukewarm reaction to a song I can usually predict it will be a fantastic pop tune like this. Badfinger was a brilliant group in a genre we now refer to as power pop. They were heavily influenced by the Beatles and were closely associated with the band. Unscrupulous management destroyed their career, and led to the band's tragic end.

@@Lensmaster1yes, but if you are going to be a reactor you can't just diss a whole genre of music because you're not giving it a chance. I'm pretty sure he's liked slower songs than this so I don't understand why he says it's too slow. This certainly is not a song I would slow dance to.

Not just influenced, but produced by and even worked with the Beatles. They were the biggest success on their Apple Corps record label, before everything went up the creek. McCartney wrote their first hit ("Come And Get it") and Harrison produced "Day After Day". Also, some people might not realize, but one of the biggest hits in the 90s by sales was Mariah Carey's "Without You", which was written by Pete Ham and originally recorded by Badfinger in the 70s. They're really underappreciated, IMO.

There was a little act called the Classic Rock Stars and he caught them in a suburb of Chicago. Spencer Davis was the leader the drummer was from Rare Earth, bass player from a sixties band called "Cannibal and The Headhunters," and a few others my hubby can't remember! Badfinger, along with The Raspberries and Big Star, were memebers of a sub-genre known as Power Pop. It was softer rock/pop characterized by lightly distorted guirars, a strong back-beat, and lyrics about love or loss. Badfinger were my favorite of the genre. They had some really big hits such as "Come & Get It", "No Matter What", "Day After Day", "Baby Blue" & "Without You". This group had quite a sad history. I never understand why people call this a slow soft song. It's not "slow", it's mid-tempo. Even many hard rock songs are mid -tempo. I think what's throwing Jay is that great singable pop melody and the vocal with those smooth harmonies. This is not a screaming, destroy your vocal cords, type of song, nor is it meant to be. But at the same time, the production on this song and even the vocals are hardly what I call "soft and mellow". I mean, with that highly distorted guitar tone and that catchy riff as well as those heavy drums and bass, whats slow soft and mellow? This song is fantastic!

This song is THE Badfinger song. That riff, the drums, the sentiment of the lyrics...

Yes, a band that had such great melody songs like Day After Day, this song which is my favorite of theirs. It is the melody and cadence of the song, with the ascending guitar riffs. Amazing tune from the year of my high school graduation, the glorious year of 1972.

I saw Bad Finger in a club about 1980, They still had 3 or their original 4 members, Baby Blue might be my favorite song by them. The chords are good in this song.

This song and Day After Day are two of my most deeply loved and favorite songs of all time that speak to my heart and soul! I couldn't get to your reaction fast enough to see you guys experience this old classic gem! And then Rob pauses it and says..."it's not bad" with a near-shrugging expression! Lol... it's so amazing with music to see how diverse everyone's tastes are! :)

This is a great work of art. It's the sound. The guitar tones, the progressions, the structure. The vocal sound. Like so many pieces, a visual component only detracts from it. Back when it was created, when we listened to it, it was the sound that enriched us. I guess a person just has to have the gift of feeling the beauty of it.

I can NOT listen to this song without getting chills from head to toe!... First off, I loved it since I first heard it in '72... and secondly I will NEVER get the image of the closing scene in the finale of Breaking Bad out of my head every time I hear it!... My fave TV show of all time and such a killer way to have that show go out... plus the brilliance of how the lyrics just happened to work so well with the show... "guess I got what I deserved", yes Walt you did!..... "my love for you, my baby blue", yup in the end Walt had to admit that he was obsessed with his 'blue' meth, his baby that he created, more than the money or anything else... But I digress.... such a GREAT song!

This was the number 1 song on my Spotify 2022 Top 100. Sorry Jay don't care for it but that's cool. 'Come and Get It' would be a great choice next. Or maybe 'Something In The Air' by 'Thunderclap Neuman', they were both featured in the Movie 'Magic Christian Music'. Cheers.

Takes me back to halcyon days with one of the girls I first loved. Truly loved. And indeed, she had huge blue eyes. I can still remember walking with her on those summer nights so long ago. Still makes me smile.
