Really good video. It's nice when someone takes the time and describes each step, including the bolt sizes etc. especially since I would have likely tried to pull that bolt out that holds in the ignition coil, not knowing it doesn't remove fully.

Really well done video man. Love that you included the tool list and also a lot of people wouldn't know about replacing the original paper gasket with a stronger one.

Im on to my second VZ, both '05. First one was written off a couple years ago but had 260k on her, current one i got a year ago and shes sitting on just over 100k now. Realised this means I'll be coming across all the big replacements and mechanics hate working on them. If you've still got yours, would absolutely love and appreciate more videos like this one. I've been diagnosing issues using the holden forum which is great, but I'm a visual learner. Much prefer to learn how to do it myself without having to travel the countryside and forking out money better spent elsewhere.

I've had this vz for a year now (first car) and it's an absolute shitbox so I'm starting to learn to do simple things as I go to cut down on costs since the timing chain is about to send itself into space, this has to be by far one of the best videos to learn from. changed all my plugs without destroying a thing 10/10

Well done nicely done. One question you skipped that process of removing those bloody co plugs which can be a nightmare to unclip.

Good video mate, just wondering if your "check power train" code went away after the ignition coil change, as my VZ Crewman has the same code.

Awesome video, thanks mate! Quick question, is the torque wrench essential when threading the plugs back in? Or am I able to get away with a tight twist in :D
@JamesMayer125

Torque wrench is definitely not essential. If I wasn’t filming a video I probably wouldn’t use it either haha

Hey mate, in the video the RTV is put on so it comes into contact with the bottom of the gasket. Do you put any on the top of the gasket?
@JamesMayer125
@JamesMayer125 Год назад
Sure do. Just make sure you don’t have any over hanging the inlets

I use metal gaskets, also invest in a k&n air filter, let your engine breath. And more vz material needs to come available, so don't stop

Hello. I am from Brazil and here we have the models from 99 to 2011. I would like to know if you are difficult to acquire parts. Oh, where do you live? Here in Brazil few have seen spare parts for this reason and sadness. but tell me I'm with a friend.

Good video, but never use antisieze on spark plugs oil maybe but not necessary and could make it hard to remove the plug after cooking. Antisieze has metal particles which once the plug and head get hot will run along the threads with the oil carrier. This can then find its way to the end of the plug. As the plug sparks and ignition is started the fine metal of the antisieze is sprayed and will adhere to the porcelain insulator thus causing a short circuit, no more spark!

Good to know. I wasn’t aware of that before. Cheers

@@JamesMayer125 Neither was I until it happened to me! Best to install plugs with clean threads. Most are cadmium plated which is a bit of a help. Not over tightening is your best bet for easy extraction later.

Not having tried this I can’t guarantee but as there is two separate gaskets I don’t see why not What do you think Gordon?

i changed my coils and spark plugs, but the car still won't start. is it because they were never the problem? the car is cranking just won't start
@JamesMayer125
@JamesMayer125 Год назад
Yeah maybe they weren’t the problem. Hard to say really without knowing what’s going on. If you changed the coils and plugs you can probably rule them out now

260 000 on my 06 VZ. Burns a bit of oil but its hanging in there.

380k on my 04 VZ, it's burning oil so much it goes black 2 weeks after changing. But man it's still driving, absolute road warrior! Meanwhile my wife's 2011 VE is nothing but problem after problem, I honestly hate it. We're trading it in very soon but I'll keep the VZ for a few more years. Might even reco the engine and see how long I can keep it on the road.

just a question, can a person apply for apprenticeship for a car mechanic even tho the person is clueless in cars. i mean should i already have a knowledge about cars going in to the apprenticeship or will they teach me things beginning from the basics?
@JamesMayer125
@JamesMayer125 2 года назад
Yeah don’t see why anyone can’t apply. You can apply to a tafe (in Australia) and they will teach you the basics. Basics would be a bonus though. I’m not an expert though I’m afraid. Hope it all works out :)
