These all-natural herbal incense sticks made with lavender herbal tea and essential oils will burn for up to 122 minutes!
Making your own incense sticks ensures that the ingredients are all natural and chemical free.
In this video I'm showing:
• how to use herbal tea in your incense
• 2 different hand-rolling techniques
• how I store my incense
• how I burn my incense
Recipe:
1/4 cup sandalwood powder - amzn.to/3opmUkO
1/8 cup finely ground lavender herb - amzn.to/35D3ZKy
1/4 cup makko powder - amzn.to/3mnRCJb
1/4 cup ground copal resin - amzn.to/31Lgcfn
1 or 2 Tbsps lavender herbal tea (add small amounts until the mix is moist, then stop - updated 11.27.20)
1 tsp lavender essential oil - amzn.to/35uG9AQ
1 tsp sandalwood essential oil
Wooden splits: - amzn.to/3osgnWC
This makes 28-30 sticks
***A viewer was kind enough to suggest an alternative to makko powder:
use 1/8 tsp tragacanth gum for about 3 Tbsp of combined ingredients***
The Calendula Officinalis, we feel, is Nature’s Darling.

Is there any reason it’s done in a tray and not maybe a mixer with a dough hook?? Just curious
@NaturesDarling
@NaturesDarling 3 года назад
connor bragg - because kneading by hand helps you to feel the texture of the mix and know when to stop adding liquid (if the mix is too wet or too dry, or whether its holding together or separating). Besides, the total amount of the dough is approx 1 cup (enough to make 28-30 sticks), and half of it would be left sticking to the dough hook. Thanks for watching! 💚

The incense I attempted came out incredibly sticky, not so smooth like this video and another video of yours. Do you have any idea where I went wrong? I also used refrigerated distilled water, you recommended room temperature in another video, could that be the mistake?
@NaturesDarling
@NaturesDarling 3 года назад
Big Ray - I don’t think the temp of the water would make it sticky - adding more makko powder or leaving the mix in the bowl overnight to let it dry out a little would have been ok. @wetdewlap8741

Love the video but I’m confused… if you are using and grinding your own lavender and using makko powder( not exactly sure what that is or what is it derived from) why would you have to then add lavender oil.. is your own friend up lavender simply not enough to produce a lavender scent on its own.. and next question would be , if you always have to add an oil for scent, why would you need fresh lavender? Could you just add the copal resin, the makko powder, and lavender oil ( or any fragrant oil) Also, I really like the wax paper technique you did.. seems a shame to have these beautiful natural incense sticks and then use plastic straws.. just doesn’t seem right. Could you use a metal straw instead? Would that release the same way? Thanks so much for the posting this.. I would love to hear your take on the questions.. I have been wanting to make my own incense for so long and this is giving me the confidence to try it out. :)
@NaturesDarling
@NaturesDarling 2 года назад
Wetdewlap - 1) I’m using essential oil, not fragrance oil (has chemicals) and it takes approximately 3 pounds of lavender flowers to produce 15ml of essential oil - so to get the scent strength I desire, I would have to use too much lavender powder. 2) makko powder is a tree bark and it is used as a binder & to help with the burn 3) I use lavender herb bc it adds a depth / layer to the fragrance that essential oil cannot, plus I love herbs - also, for integrity (“natural lavender incense” without lavender herb?) 4) Yes, metal straw should work. 1 plastic straw, tho? Most of us do our best to stay on the natural side, but cannot avoid plastics entirely. 5) Good luck with your incense making. Thanks for watching!💚

Hi - I wish I could say what happened. If you have ingredients left over, try a smaller batch - add the liquid in VERY small amounts - stop adding liquids if it seems to be going wrong - then knead it well. If it is still not right, divide the paste in 2 and add a little more liquid to one and a little more makko powder to the other - then knead them well and see which is better. Someone else wrote that his came out too sticky. Thanks for watching!💚

@NaturesDarling
@NaturesDarling 2 года назад
Marjorie Donat - For real? If yes, you could start with a big clump of the dough and roll it on a flat surface or between your hands until it reaches the length & thickness you desire, then insert 2 splits - try to keep it straight down the center so it won’t topple over while burning (note: one split will not be sturdy enough to support the weight of the dough/paste). Then roll the incense in the dry mix and improve the shape. This size will take a longer time to dry properly. Thanks for watching! 💚

Hi is there any reason for you to wear gloves while mixing the ingredients together?
@NaturesDarling

Santa C - I wear gloves because of the essential oil and copal resin. The SDS (safety data sheet) for both mentions skin irritation. Essential oils when used straight without a carrier oil can damage the skin. Thanks for watching!💚

@@NaturesDarling Thanks for your prompt reply...the reason why I asked was all the ingredients are full of nice fragrance and when hands are used to mix the mixture you can smell them throughout the day.

Hi Gladys, everything is written on the screen (subtitles). If you still can’t follow, perhaps you could slow the video speed and that should give you more time to read the text. Thanks for watching!💚

jane deaux - . The skill level of the traditional Indian method is off the charts - these methods work fine for the rest of us - such a clever comment. Thanks for watching!💚
