I prefer to grind my own herbs, but you can purchase ground herbs online.
LAVENDER RECIPE:
2 tsps ground lavender - amzn.to/35D3ZKy
¾ tsp makko powder (this is a binder) - amzn.to/3mnRCJb
5 drops lavender essential oil (optional) - amzn.to/35uG9AQ
1 ½ - 1 ¾ tsp distilled water (room temp.)
CITRUS RECIPE:
1 part ground lemon balm
1 part lemon powder
1 part ground rosemary
2 parts ground white copal resin - amzn.to/31Lgcfn
2 parts makko powder - amzn.to/3mnRCJb
3 ½ -4 tsps distilled room temp water
SANDALWOOD RECIPE:
2 tsps sandalwood powder - amzn.to/3opmUkO (the brand I purchased is not available, but this is similar)
¾ tsp makko powder (this is a binder) - amzn.to/3mnRCJb
5 drops sandalwood essential oil (optional)
1- 1 ½ tsp distilled water (room temp.)
CINNAMON RECIPE:
1 part cinnamon powder
1 part ground cloves
1 part ground nutmeg
2 parts white copal resin (ground) - amzn.to/31Lgcfn
2 parts makko powder - amzn.to/3mnRCJb
3 ½ -4 tsps room temp distilled water
BAY LEAF RECIPE:
2 tsp ground bay leaves
¾ tsp makko powder (this is a binder) - amzn.to/3mnRCJb
1- 1 ½ tsp distilled water (room temp.)
***A viewer was kind enough to suggest an alternative to makko powder:
use 1/8 tsp tragacanthin gum for about 3 Tbsp of combined ingredients***
TOOLS:
incense burners (small saucers will do)
mortar & pestle or old coffee grinder,
The Calendula Officinalis, we feel, is Nature’s Darling.

Thank you!!! I wanted incense for my craft, but didn’t want to buy any. This is perfect because I have a lot of herbs, plus, when i make something, I feel like I have a stronger connection to it since I put time and my energy into it, so this is perfect for me!! 😊😊😊

Thank you. I am a former smoker. I quit in 2008 after 32 years of smoking. I used to smoke Cigarettes, cigars and pipe. I miss the smell of pipe tobacco burning and I don't know any pipe smokers. I dont think pipe tobacco will burn on its own unless it is in a huge pile and that would produce too much smoke. The desire is to smell it not smoke it. I hope to make a pipe tobacco incense. This is where I start this journey.

This is perfect. I find a coffee bean bullet grinder saves on the elbow grease and they are cheap enough to have one specially for incense making only. Sand from the beach which has been dried and sieved gives a fine base for the incense burners.

@NaturesDarling

RoyallyDivine - I said optional for the few drops of lavender essential oil because I had already included the ground lavender herb and wondered if the few drops would make a difference. You would add the essential oil just before the distilled water. Thanks so much for watching! 💚

Which one of these incense burners would you reccomend? I have a similar one that constantly snuffs out my incense, but I love the beautiful shape of the smoke it initially creates!
@NaturesDarling

Jacqueline Hide - the burners without a lid will burn the incenses without a problem, but the lidded ones are so much more stylish 😊. Try to get a good burn on the cones before you put the lid on. Thanks for watching! 💚

Thank you for sharing with us! I wanted to try making my own incense and appreciate you ❤️ Very helpful. Would you or have you tried using honey in place of water? Also do you find that using the copal or any other resin makes it smoker when it burns? Thank you again!
@NaturesDarling
@NaturesDarling 2 года назад
Nicole Ruiz - I’ve seen honey used as a binder instead of makko powder, but I’ve never tried it. I suggest you make a small test batch with the honey to find the correct ratio of herbs to honey - also, keep in mind that honey will take a longer time to dry. Regarding the smoking, I haven’t noticed any difference within the tree resins. Thanks for watching! Have fun making your incense! 💚

Thank you!! this is great. I am going to try this. Question what kind of salt and black powder do you use in the end when burning the cones?
@NaturesDarling
@NaturesDarling 2 года назад
Jeannie Resto - the black powder is sand (the sand protects the bottom of the burner from the heat), but you can use regular table salt or natural sand. Thank you for watching! 💚

Much love for shared wisom Sister. Can I ask the one if using any form of metals (heat generating) blender cutlery and storage affects the effects of the burn? Namaste. (Heart) SUBSCRIBED!
@NaturesDarling
@NaturesDarling 4 года назад
Hi Nyah B - I don’t think blender or cutlery will affect the burn (most knives etc are stainless steel anyway- that’s good ) - however, if your burners are metal, put a little salt or sand in the bottom before lighting the incense just to avoid any effect from the burning metal. Re the storage, I prefer glass, wooden box, wax paper or cardboard to maintain the freshness and fragrance - I avoid plastic, regular paper and cloth. Thanks for subscribing! 💚

I just got interested in incense and disliked the varieties available to me (mostly made in China) so this is just perfect! How often do you burn your incense? I would like to know whether the smell lingers or if it's just for a momentary pleasant aroma.

Aivscene Menytings - I burn incense when I’m in a quiet, meditative mood - mostly early evenings to early nights - anywhere from once a week to once a month - the cones burn for 5-7 mins and the smell doesn’t linger long - the sticks I make burn for over an hour and the smell does linger for more than a day. Thanks for watching! 💚

Thank you for this-- can you dry in a dehydrator for same results?
@NaturesDarling
@NaturesDarling Месяц назад
I’ve never dried them in a dehydrator, but you could test a few or a small batch to see if the “burn” is still good. Thanks for watching!💚

What other type of grinder can I use? Thank you for your light!

Violet Ina - you could try a blender or mortar & pestle - then use a sieve to remove the chunky bits. Thanks for watching!💚

tysm! can i use grinded herbs honey and water?
@NaturesDarling
@NaturesDarling 3 года назад
Kaia - yes, honey can be used as a binder (though I’ve never tried it), but your recipe should have the correct ratio of honey to herbs - honey does not dry easily / quickly, and a damp incense will not burn. Thanks for watching! 💚

How do you ensure your incense has a strong scent? Especially with floral ingredients? Thank you so much for posting this video by the way, theres nothing better than home made things
@NaturesDarling
@NaturesDarling 4 года назад
Kiki Smith - thanks for asking. To ensure a good, strong strength: 1) I grind my own herbs, seeds, barks, roots, etc. - this doesn’t mean that already ground herbs are not good - far from that. There are ground herbs out there that are fresh and strong. 2) I can add essential oil (or fragrance oil) to the mixture - several of the recipes in the description box include essential oils.

Hello! I want to start making my own incense cones, and eventually move up to sticks. I was wondering, can we add in any type of resin? Some recipes have makko and resin. Is the resin for smell? Can i use any type of resin? Did you experiment with what scents would go together as incense? Thank you so much ^_^ .
@NaturesDarling
@NaturesDarling 3 года назад
Cecilia - yes, you can use the tree resin of your choice - some resins are more fragrant than others (e.g. frankincense resin is more fragrant than copal). Yes, I experimented with blending essential oils in incenses & handmade herbal soaps. Thanks for watching!💚
