Pork Crab Egg Mixture:
In a bowl add and whisk together
3 eggs
100g or 1/4 cup Spicy Crab Paste Seasoning
Then fold in
1 1/2 cups crab meat
1/4 pound ground pork
1 clove minced garlic
salt & pepper
Set aside. Now steep 1 tsp annatto seeds in 2 tbsp oil, fry 3-4 minutes to extract the flavor. Separate the oil and add it into a heavy bottomed pot, heat it up
Add 1 clove minced garlic
1/4 cup chopped onions
stir-fry for 1 minute
add 3 chopped Roma tomatoes
Mix until tender, add
6 cups Chicken broth
Let it come to a boil, add the egg crab mixture, in large spoonfuls. Let it cook until it floats to the top. Then season with
1/2 tsp sugar
1 tsp Fish Sauce
Finally before serving mix in some fried tofu chunks.
Serve over Vietnamese Rice Noodles
Onion Cilantro mix
and typical Vietnamese fresh toppings.
Serves 4!

OMG, Erisy is cuteness on a stick! She still looks at you so adoringly as when she was born. You should totally let her cook with you more often, maybe elevate her seating somehow so she can see everything. I've not really had good bun rieu so I cannot say it's even top 5 for me as far as noodles in broth. I think it's because it's always been a bit on the bland side, which could be because I don't add the shrimp paste since I'm not used to using it that way. LOL! I think bun bo hue is tastier, bolder with more flavors going on. With that said, I was excited to see your recipe as it looks easy and do-able. I will attempt this and let you know what I think! Thanks for sharing your shortcut version, it will give confidence to go play in the kitchen and then maybe attempt the authentic version some day. :)

Firstly, you’re daughter is too cute. Second, thanks for sharing this “short cut version” of this soup! I always ask my mom to make this so I’ve never attempted to make it myself- lol. I will have to try yours. Thirdly, my siblings who live in LA say Golden Deli in San Gabriel have the best fries spring rolls and pretty great Vietnamese dishes. Check it out! I also remember having epic dim sum in San Gabriel too.

I really appreciate that you make quick easy but still PRETTY authentic versions of these dishes!! As a college student that lives far away from home and misses their mothers cooking and loves cooking but has little time, this is great! I REALLY hope you continue to make videos like these! I dont mind. I have kids and i love kids. Thanks for sharing this video of bun rieu. I got addicted to eating it. I’m a seafood lover by the way. I tried a home cooked bun rieu over the weekend at my friend’s babyshower. It’s soo tasty and soo delish! 😋😋🍜😍. Everybody loved it. I really want to try to make it at home one day. I just have to learn how to do this. Now it’s one of my favorite soup.

Omg love your video so much! Esp those on Vietnamese food! Was in vietnam last month and I bought an instant bowl of Bun Rieu but the translation was kinda fun that it said crab rice pancake! I enjoy making bun rieu, one of my husband and daughter’s favorite noodle soup. Beside the crab/shrimp mixture, I also add either fish cake tofu or home-made shrimp balls/cake. Your video inspires me to cook this very soon. Baby Erisy is so adorable and looks just like her dad.

Yeah, I have a baby near Erisy's age. He gets giddy and starts giggling in a high pitch, then starts in on the raptor shrieking when it's naptime. This recipe looks great, plenty approachable for someone like me who doesn't keep a fully stocked Vietnamese kitchen (though I'm working on it).

I think this has been one of my favorite videos in the series so far. IDK I just really loved seeing your baby there watching you as you cooked, just reminds me of how cooking usually happens at home! Making meals with my family is always so much fun. If I don't eat pork, could I sub in another ground meat or would it ruin the taste?

Bun Rieu is so delicious and the version you’re making is looking tasty too. I usually don’t like the the greens. Maybe a little bean sprouts! The fried tofu edition is my favorite because the broth speaks it up.

Finding a good restaurant depends on where you are, but I have heard good things about Pho Saigon Pearl near LACMA. My boss says it is the best pho in West LA, not sure if they have Bun Rieu. I have been several times to Mama Hong's in West LA, also pretty solid for the basic Vietnamese dishes. The best pho in Ktown is Ktown Pho and the owners are really nice! If you are in the 626 area, Golden Deli is really good. Lotus House in Temple City is also very delicious (really good Slippery Crab Noodle Soup!!) Banh Mi My Tho in Alhambra is good for Banh Mi. Of course, the best Vietnamese food will be in Garden Grove.

Some really good eating places are: Pho Kim Quy, Com Ga Nam An, Ngu Binh Restaurant, BCD, Din Tai Fung, 7 Courses of Beef, Tan Cang and Newport Seafood Restaurant Some really good boba places are: Twinkle Brown Sugar, Milk+T, 7Leaves, Half and Half, ShareTea, Zero Degrees, Roasting Water, and Milk Box These are all really good places that you should try!
