Thanks, I have both a grinder and a sander. I think both will work with all sanding paper numbers. Really appreciate the explanation!

That works! They make really cool diamond pads these days, you should give them a try. 👊

Yes, they do, I have a video for those as well, and for PVA high speed polishing pads. The Alpha sandpaper is a great inexpensive option for soft materials like glass and marble.

Order placed for the discs and backer... hoping to finish a bathroom remodel on glass tile with these. Thanks for the video!

if I have a dremmel tool, could I make that work for polishing glass? I only have 2-3 edges of glass subway tile to polish. Hate to have to buy additional tools (actually that’s not true, haha)

I have a similar situation, Becky. While I have a grinder, it isn't variable speed but my Dremmel multi-tool is. I'll give it a shot.

Sal. I have a single speed grinder. Why shouldn't I use that?
@SalDiBlasi
@SalDiBlasi 2 года назад
Two fast for many types of pads, can be dangerous and will burn out the pads. if you want to use that grinder use pads designed for it amzn.to/3nFzEFA

Sal, I have a question about heat mats. Do you recommend laying on plywood then covering with self leveling, then applying thinset and tile or do you recommend underlayment like durock then embedding the mat in thinset as you lay the tile? Bathroom is small and doesn’t justify buying whole role of ditra and wire for example. Thanks and love the channel!
@SalDiBlasi

Depends on the heat system. However Ditra Heat mat can be bought in eight square foot panels, no need to by a roll.

Sal, HELP!!! We live on a well and are adding a shower, I’m trying to stay with larger tile and using a corian base to avoid too many grout lines. What kind of grout would you recommend, trying to keep cleaning and maintenance to a minimum. 🤓
@SalDiBlasi

Use an advanced grout like Tec Power grout or similar from another company, they all have a version, or a Urethane grout, Bostik has an easy to use one of Mapei FlexColor CQ (styrene acrylic co-polymer) or epoxy grout like Laticrete Spectralock. Many choices, just be aware that some are more difficult to use and always follow directions.

Hi Sal, I’ve bought some large format tile, 12 x 24, and the kerdi shower kit. Any advice on the thinset for the tile? As you know the debate on modified vs unmodified. Or should I just go for the All Set? It’s hard for me to get in this area and is around $60 a bag. I’ve been eyeing the Mapei uncoupling membrane mortar that is unmodified. Thoughts? Thank you in advance!

I use Schluter set to install the tile over Ditra and Kerdi. however Mapei makes great products so if that is what you can get, then it will be good.

Sal DiBlasi thank you Sal. My parents are adamant that I should not use a 12 x 24 tile in a 36 x 48 shower. Should I stay away from large format in a small sized shower or can/does it look good in your opinion?

Large tiles in small spaces usually make the space look bigger.

Sal DiBlasi thank you! That’s what I’ve been reading and what I thought looking at ideas. Thank you for all your videos. You are the best on RU-vid and do amazing work!

Hi sal can you help.... I'm tiling my conservatory floor , the base is just screed i think but when I knock it ,it sounds hollow everywhere it's not actually coming up tho' can I level it then tile it ?
@SalDiBlasi
@SalDiBlasi 6 лет назад
If it sounds hollow there is probaby a problem unless some kind of uncoupling membrane was used, for example Ditr Heat Duo sound very hollow. So you might be ok but without knowing how it was installed, I can't say. Putting more tile over a failing floor is just asking for problems.

Sal DiBlasi ok thanks sal it's something I inherited the base has been down for about 18 years so I don't know how it was installed either . :D

Will the work in engineered stone as well?
@SalDiBlasi
@SalDiBlasi 3 года назад
Will work on any softer stone like marble, travertine and the like. For harder materials other kinds of polishing pads are needed.

Does this work with a variable speed random orbit sander as well?
@SalDiBlasi

don't know, never tried it.

I’ve polished travertine edges with my PC 7224 variable speed sander successfully. Travertine is pretty soft, but harder materials might require a diamond polishing pad on a grinder.

Do you need a special cutting wheel for a manual cutter for cutting glass?
@SalDiBlasi
@SalDiBlasi 3 года назад
not on a snap cutter, but you do on a wet saw.
