I have HEAPS of exciting things upcoming on this channel. The Red Winch Cobra is here, which will be going on the front of the GQ. I also have a Speedwerx bender turning up soon so I can fabricate some new brush bars & rock sliders for the GQ. Lastly, I'll be building a brand new tray for the GU. But first, it's service time so join me as I go through my regular maintenance schedule for my 4wds.

At last a channel I can actually relate, its not one big commercial pushing products down our throat. I actually can sit through an entire episode and learn something. Just love how your wanting to help or share your knowledge within the 4x4 community. Cheers bro....there is nothing worse then sitting through an episode of other channels with unobtainable builds, tools and equipment also skills that not every man or woman has.

Yeah I think your thinking on the doing a video on a topic like servicing or something most people would know how to do, it spot on. There is always going to be some that don't know or unsure. Servicing diffs & gear boxes is something most don't check & even if you do know how to do it, for some it might be a "while between drinks". So it is a good reminder to have a drink more often :0)

All for these types of videos. But I feel you missed the mark a bit. I would have been super keen to hear your “pro tips” on a service. Like why you tipped oil into the filters before fitting. Did you do the same for the fuel filter. What did you do to dispel air after fitting the fuel filter. Your recommendation on different product you have used over the years and why you use what you are using now. Greasing underneath and where all the grease nipples are. Sorry if I’m sounding negative. I do love this channel and the mix of videos you have. Maybe you can do a follow up video with some pro tips?
@timmyhasheart
@timmyhasheart 9 месяцев назад
Na that’s a fair criticism thank you, it’s something I’ve thought about the more comments I’ve read. To be honest I was reluctant to do a service video at all but if I was gonna do it I wanted to keep it fast paced and not dribble on about my opinions haha. Priming the oil filters is force of habit, cause I need a bit on top to lube it as it tightens, not really necessary as the oil pump primes up pretty quick and TD don’t run very high oil pressure anyway. As for the fuel system I don’t have diesel on hand so I just unscrew the old one, screw the new one on and then pump the primer, which also isn’t really necessary cause I have an electric lift pump. No need to bleed because the injector pump holds pressure forward of it.. so as long as you pump the primer until it’s hard, or let the electric pump prime, no need to bleed at all, car just fires up normally 🤙🏻 Again, thanks for the feedback I’ll keep it in mind I just never wanna bore people with injecting my opinion or talking a bunch. 🙏🏻

Excellent job Timmy, it may seem like mundane stuff servicing a patrol yourself and like you said it becomes almost automatic after a while but there’s always some one out there doing it for the first time. Next time you change a fuel filter could you include clamping the fuel lines and in what order, also bleeding the fuel lines etc or how to avoid having to.. I know it sounds silly but I made that mistake the first time I changed the fuel filter and introduced a whole lot of air to the injectors… never good… Not meaning to sound critical.. am I bad? Can’t wait for the bar work video! Thanks 😊
@timmyhasheart
@timmyhasheart 9 месяцев назад
For sure thanks heaps mate 🙏🏻🙏🏻 honestly I don’t clamp anything, the injector pump holds pressure forward to the injectors, and the lines from the tank hold diesel for the most part, even if you clamped them off the filter is empty unless you fill it so you still need to prime it. So what I do is screw the new one in, then pump the primer until it goes hard and that’s it, also I have an electric lift pump that would do it for me just by holding the key on, I should have showed this or primed it up on camera haha, I was just trying to keep it fast paced. Appreciate the feedback mate thank you 🙏🏻
@philmarriott8084
@philmarriott8084 9 месяцев назад
Thanks Timmy, I’m running a 6.5L optimizer in my 2015 GU I’ve had since new. It has a lift pump too, for the larger mechanical high spec fuel pump, it runs the same fuel filter you’re running in the TD42. But I forgot to fill the new filter with fuel and then didn’t use the lift pump to prime it before reconnecting the fuel line from the injector side. Then I just turned over the engine like I’d seen my mechanic do on many previous occasions.. I had not being paying enough attention to my mechanic or I would of known the rest..I have learnt from my mistakes.. all good now though! Thanks for the feedback!
@timmyhasheart
@timmyhasheart 9 месяцев назад
Yeah righto, yeah so as soon as you hit the key if you haven’t primed it then it introduces air past the injector pump and yeah that’s when you might have to crack 1 or 2 injectors to get the air out, but yeah you don’t have to fill the filter with diesel or clamp anything, just hand pump the primer after install until it’s hard or alternatively switch the key so your lifter comes on and wait 🤙🏻🤙🏻

Hey mate, best way not to mushroom your diff drain plugs is to buy a complete/universal sump plug socket set. You’ll use a 13mm (1/2”) square socket. Instead of the pin detent anvil on your 1/2” ratchet/extension/breaker bar. Any good parts store should have em! Or shave down a bolt into a square 13mm head. Great ep as always brother ✌🏼
@timmyhasheart

Oh yeah so like an actual correct size square drive for it? Just as a side note I don’t mean I destroy them with tools I meant I absolutely obliterate them on rocks because I’m a shit driver hahaha

Ahh fair enough man! Yep, they’re a square male 13mm socket. So not no pin unlike a 1/2” ratchet, breaker bar. Personal preference really. Sorta the right tool for the job I guess 🤷🏼‍♀️

Nothing at all mate, unscrew the filter, screw the new one on and pump it until it’s tight again before you try start the car. As long as you do that it’ll be fine, the injector pump holds pressure forward to the injectors 🤙🏻🤙🏻

When there is such milkshake oil contamination, do you just drain it and put new one on top? Or do you have to put some new, drive around the block and drain it again to clean any remnants of the contaminated one?
@timmyhasheart
@timmyhasheart 9 месяцев назад
That’s a good question, I don’t, no.. especially when this box’s days are numbered, I just put new stuff in the top to get the last bit out the bottom. I think when you’re talking about maybe 200ml of old stuff in there with 3.9L of new stuff, there’s probably enough detergents in it altogether to deal with it, but if you had something you cared about like a locker maybe you’d take flushing it a bit more seriously? I dunno maybe I’m just a cowboy haha. Thanks for the comment 🙏🏻

What brand of GL-4 do you use, genuinely interested. I can only find Redline these days which is great as a true GL-4, but a PIA to get. The rest at Supercheap or Repco I find is all GL-4/5 derivative which is not great for older cars like 80s and GQs back? All the additives in combo version for 5 can east away at those metals, Penrite has more additives than anyone, pse don't tell me you use Penrite.😂
@timmyhasheart
@timmyhasheart 9 месяцев назад
Yeah I’m no oil nut I just jam it in there mate, and it’s Penrite haha, not for any reason other than the “GL4” on the front is nice big writing that a gronk like me can read. 👍🏻 no dramas so far it’s all I’ve ever run haha

Does that intake manifold have the correct dimensions or whatever it is for even spread across all 6 cylinders? I've been looking for a td42 manifold but there's a lot of info about that says most don't have some 50mm lift so not all 6 cylinders get an even spread.
@timmyhasheart
@timmyhasheart 9 месяцев назад
Hmm to be honest man I look at the intake a little differently, especially in a diesel I don’t really look at it like flow through the engine, I think of it more like your turbo is a compressor keeping the intake pumped up to 25psi for example which is just increasing the atmosphere it’s seeing, and so looking at it that way no matter what the air is there ready and so I wouldn’t have thought it would matter, but to answer your question I think it’s about as even as it can be for a straight 6, certainly more even than a forward entry on a lot of 6’s. they’re bloody long!

Yeah as above I do oil and filters ever 5, just with how “dirty” they are with soot and what not, and the harsh conditions and stress it’s under I wouldn’t really stretch it any longer, even when I went to the cape we all serviced our cars in the car park on the way home at 5 haha. 2 questions - where did you get the workshop safe uggy's (looks like they seen a few yards mate😅😅), what was that little magnetic light used when doing the rear housing? I reckon you should grab an EZ Oil/Fumoto drain bung for the engine oil - makes the job super easy. Wicked content, love the genuine DIY stuff you do with no product pushing, just good garage stuff. No hoist, rolling around on the floor - real content.

Hahaha mate it was a week night had to have some level of comfy 😅 and not to product push but it’s a Kincrome one haha, and ultimate 9 also so a wicked magnetic one, and that’s God’s honest truth I wouldn’t recommend something I don’t highly rate. I had to google one of those sump things, they actually look really really cool! But I wish it was a little more low profile, tbh I’d be worried I’d break it off with a rock or stick or lowering the engine into the engine bay or lifting it over the rad support, a low profile version would be sick! Appreciate the kind words mate thank you, however I’d love a hoist hahaha.
