Planting brassica food plots does not have to be very hard. In fact, for nearly 20 years I have been using these no till brassica planting methods with a huge degree of easy success! Whether you are planting turnips, radishes, rape seeds or a quality combo of all 3, this really is a can't miss way to plant incredible fields of high volume green. My favorite is the Ultimate No Till food plot planting method, and this is the perfect illustration for just how successful using Brassica within this method works!
To find the Sweet Feast Brassica blend I use for these no till food plot planting methods, visit www.northwoodswhitetails.com/

Jeff it’s amazing how you’ve been the first to do EVERYTHING in the foodplot world. You’ve been doing brassicas since 1999!! Who else would have been so brilliant? Last year at Thanksgiving my entire family thanked Jeff for developing corn so the Pilgrims could survive and for teaching them to eat wild game. Amazing!!

Jeff, Great comments. It is really good to actually see the video of your results...especially the results when using the Urea on the Brassica!!! We got all our planting done yesterday, and sprayed afterward. We had about 2-5 hrs of dry weather before receiving an 1.5" of rain. I hope that is enough time for the RU to work. We did have a major equipment breakdown and will have to replace the engine on the UTV. Looking forward to seeing things green up. thanks again for all your guidance during your visit. Bob

Tons of great advice on this channel! What about in the south where it’s miles and miles of pine forest, what should a hunter be looking for as far as a food source to hunt around and such things like that? I have a 200 acre farm with swampy hardwoods with so many deer it’s like a petting zoo, but I recently got in a club 70 miles away and it’s all pine woods and forestry area. I’m lost as a goose as far as food sources and seasonal deer patterns in strictly pine forest.

Awesome video. Maybe my fav yet. Clears up all the issues and concerns on these plots. Only ones I do myself. Same way. 2 questions. 1. One of my areas are very bare with no weeds or thatch. Seeded before a rain a week ago. But doesn’t look like anything came up after a week of no rain. Is it ok still ? Or is it toast ? 2. I over-seedEd some of my over-browsed beans and their are some grass weeds same height as the 8 inch beans. I assumed they wouldn’t get pods being over-browsed. Anyway coild I spray cleth on the radish/turnip soybean plot to kill the grasses ? Or will it harm the beans and brassicas too ? And do I need to eliminate the 6-8 inch grass weeds?

Been watching most of your videos and love them !great job showing your passion! A little tip (from a chemistry major) ;you should't be putting glyphosate on food plots; its a chelator (bind's to cations) - Ca, Fe, Zn, and Mn; (calcium , iron, Zinc, magnesium) ; might be good for short term killing what you don't want there; but it binds to these metals irreversibly so now your soil will be lacking these metals forever and have a weaker and weaker yield (year to year)

We tried this method this year but didn't have good luck. We tried it on a lawn area at home some of the soy beans grew not much for the brassica. Only about 5 percent germination we had. The other location. Was a old CRP field for 10 years. Mainly grass about knee to waist high. There was also golden rod and milk weed. We did kill it with the spray but almost a month later only about 10 percent germination at that site. Going to try to burn off the dead grass and disc or scratch up the ground and replant again. We planted it in early July both spots. About .25 acre each.

@@richdrotzer4313 hi Rich...wanted to make sure that it wasn't my method at all. You have to have bare soil...or buckwheat coverage in the case of the beans and peas. You then can expect full germination on everything. The peas and beans and to some extent the oats have to be covered by soil or a later of buckwheat, after being broadcast on full soil, under the buckwheat. Then the buckwheat has to be cultipacked over it. The Brassica can be planted this way, or thrown on open, bare soil after repeated glyphosate treatments. There are 2 links. The first is for the exact ultimate no till method...not steps can be altered or missed...the 2nd is for bare soil no till planting. I hope they help! Been doing it for nearly 2 decades with 100% success. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-o7uPTcEL978.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hSNY1y9D5Ug.html Again tho...wanted to clarify for viewers the way you planted was not my ultimate method. Depends on deer #s, other food in area, what was planted alongside (or not), if it had kale in it (least preferred brassica)...what mix it was...lots of factors!

Isnt glyphosate roundup? Why are you guys using it so much?
@scottjkern

So you actually sprayed it three times and made sure everything was dead and then you just throw the seeds out and you’re done maybe some fertilizer money is the issue here so I kind a like the No till idea. How do you get the seas to soil in the dirt without a small spring truth maybe

Jeff, I live in Michigan and hunt in the mid Michigan area just north of midland. I wanted your advice for this no till project I wanted to do this fall. The soil where I'm at is around a 5.2- 5.3 without any lime. I was going to cut the ferns and weeds down with a flail mower then spray the area, then spread Northwoods whitetails fall forage blend. I was also going to broadcast about 400lbs of pelletized lime. What is your advice? Great videos and I'm looking forward to seeing how you develop your 25 acres. Thanks Bob

Hey Bob. How big of a food plot you planting? I am over in the Farewell area.

@@markmethner8839 it's about 1/3 of an acre but the one end is shaped like a triangle (7500 sq ft) then it narrows down to about 20 yds wide and goes for about 125 yds long.

@@robertcurtis3670 the lime isn't going to help much this year. Not sure what is in the mix you want to plant. Focus on getting the soil Ph up as the top priority. I lime in spring and plant in fall. Plants can't absorb the fertilizer as well in acidic soil.
@robertcurtis3670
@robertcurtis3670 5 лет назад
@@markmethner8839 I get all that regarding lime. I've already put 1200lbs out on my other plot. Hoping that the radishes, turnips and oats will b an excellent late season plot. The blend has cereal rye, winter wheat, oats, and forage peas. I'm trying to get this new plot going. I'm just hoping for about a 60% germination rate and I know I'll have to put out more fertilizer than normal. I'm hoping that some of the rye and wheat will help build the soil and get things going in the spring time. That's when I'll get a soil test and add the necessary lime cuz my goal is to turn that plot into a perennial clover plot.

@@robertcurtis3670 sounds good. I would get it planted for this year then and get ready to hunt. Good Luck. Got mine planted 2 weeks ago and coming in nice. Needed the rain that we got recently.

Instead of cultipacking your plots, could you just run a brush cutter over it?

Randle Richardson there are a lot of Christian believers that watch these channels. But stay in your lane. This is information about a sport. Yes it does encompass animals and land stewardship and it is easy for a Christian to want to speak out about Gods creation, but really, what are you accomplishing by bringing up religion on an outdoor hunting channel. Be thankful where it counts, in your heart. Do your thing in your everyday life and let people see your thankfulness. I firmly believe that the comment section of a RU-vid channel is not the time and place. Jeff seems like a nice man and would probably never tell you to hold back., but as a fellow Christian I am recommending that you know your audience and respect these channels for what they are recreational/ educational videos.

i understand when you say you have clean grounds ,,,but i cant see anyone using pesticides for that many years and call your soil clean,,, glyphosate isnt any good for the environment , and i rather have a few weeds then contaminate my soil and water tables with glyphosate ,,,,what would be nice is a pesticide free environment where it doesn't have bad long term effect on nature your soil and your health and if the seeds aren't affected by the glyphosate like you mentioned , it is because they are GMO seeds the seeds have been Genetically Modified to withstand glyphosate (roundup), llike all our corn ,oats ,wheets etc.... and you wonder why health issues , cancers are wayyyyy higher then they ever were ???? we are what we eat

@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 since when is glyphosate safe to consume? its directly related to many health issues,,,all i'm saying is ,,,couldn't food plots be done without the use of pesticides,,witch are scientifically proven to not be healthy. bir companies like irving use glyphosate all over crown lands , and what they use it for is to stop the hardwoods from growing alowing the money trees to grow and then be cut down at a later date,,,,, you should see the efects of glyphosate on the rivers and streams,,, blue algea in many places now,,that's what pesticides do my friend.
