Planting Conifers in Pots | Dwarf Conifer Container Gardening

Hello. I absolutely love your informative videos. I have a question: do you use bark, perlite/ pumice only or you add some soil as well. I guess you pot conifers into the different size of bark.

Such an informative video, thank you. The colour and form of that Carstens specimen is exceptional. I have been given a very large container that's too currently too big for any of my dwarf conifers. Do you think it would be possible to plant 2 or 3 in the same pot? Or might it be safer to use the double pot technique - keeping them in smaller pots but placing them inside the big pot - so as not to risk waterlogging? Thanks Gil

You certainly can plant 2,3 or more trees in a pot. Adding additional pumice or perlite will help with the drainage if you want to plant a smaller root mass in a larger pot. Good drainage is the key for success. Don't forget to re-pot in about 3-5 years.

@burklandgardens643 thank you very much for taking the time to reply. I will try to create a little landscape with three plants in the same pot and a large amount of perlite etc for drainage. Fingers crossed!

When you say "bark media" is that the same as mulch?

Bark media can be a type of mulch and is is mostly used as a much. The bark that I use is ground to a medium consistency. The type of bark in our area is either Douglas Fir or Hemlock. In other parts of the country Pine bark is used.
