I thought it was awesome that you showed a mistake and owned up to it and showed how to do it correctly.

This is definitely the best design of all the DIY sifters I’ve found on RU-vid. I think having every component rated for the outdoors is a wise move. Don’t have to be too fussy with something built to last. Thanks for sharing

Love that design and immediately forwarded it to my husband! I talked to him about a plain rectangle one but the customized design to have it rest on the wheelbarrow is absolutely fantastic! Thank you so much for sharing, makes me even more excited for this upcoming spring 🎉

I'm glad it's not just me who makes the odd little mistake on diy projects around the home. I like your finished sieve and I like that you were honest and shared your little measuring mustake too. Lol the older i get the less i trust myself lately with things. They say measure twice cut once but i measure like ten times now days! Great sieve and nice video good on you for sharing.

Excellent video! Short and sweet with no distracting music or lame attempts at humor. Nice, clean video and audio. And, I LOVE the fact that you included your "mistake!" We all make them. And, another reason why I like to use screws instead of nails. Your design is by far the simplest and most effective one I've found. Thank you! What is the box you have on your miter saw? Is it some sort of dust collection contraption?

Great vid, I also made the same measurement mistake.

This is a great and simple design, thanks for sharing. I'm going to attempt to build something similar but a bit larger and with lighter wood and one end open so I can push the left over material off the sifter by hand without having to lift the sifter off to dump it.

My hubby made me one several years ago but yours is nicer! I find so many uses for it, this year Ive been sieving path dirt because my wood chips have broken down so much, makes lovely compost!

The deck screws with the roofing washers is a good idea. If I’m not mistaken, the roofing washers have rubber on them to create a seal for roofing applications. The rubber on the washers likely helps to alleviate shock while sifting, extending the life of the unit. I have a similar idea that involves creating a quick connect, connecting my 20v oscillating tool, to the sifter frame. Push button sifting if you will. Solid work!

This is amazing! Thank you for sharing this video. Even one year ago, but this is the best what I've seen so far. This is my second year for gardening and first time I will use my own seeds. So, I need a sifter. You have exactly the same equipment I have. I am going to use free disassembled wood pallets and piece of chicken wire. Great video❤

I couldn't find the hardware cloth at the hardware store. They have screening, but it's much smaller opening, like keeping mosquitos out. I bought 50 foot roll of 1/4" squares. It's 3 feet by 50 feet long. I made one 2' x 2' dirt screener out of four 2' 2 by 4's. The 2 by 4 frame is glued and screwed together. The hardware cloth is nailed o to the frame with 3/8" U type staples that are used for fencing in chickens fencing.

Nice work! You used 1/2" screen. Have you found that to be about right? I'm looking to use a sifter to screen topsoil to get mulch wook chips out and use the screened soil for overseeding base on existing lawn. Should I consider doing down to 1/4" or do you think 1/2" is the ticket? Thanks!

Why not just put the dirt in wheelbarrow and use a shovel

Seems like a lot of work to sift out a palm’s worth of debris.

You built it wrong. You should have made your frame to fit on top of the wheel barrow, but your top sifting frame should have been made of 3/4" thick material & you should have put wheels below it so that you can roll it back & forth on the lower frame. No lifting or holding the upper frame when you shake it to sift out the smaller particles of soil. That's the easier/wiser way to sift soil.
