Hi friends! How many of you are cooking your FIRST ever turkey this year? If so, you've got this!! Don't be intimidated by cooking a turkey, it's much easier than you think. And remember that you can find the printable recipe and directions on my website. I can't wait to see all your turkey photos on social media. Remember to tag me! xo - Lisa
@cynthia g Yes, the turkey was fully cooked to 165F. You need to go by temperature, not color. This was a young turkey, and it's common on smaller birds to have some pink around the joints. Here's more information from the USDA: www.fsis.usda.gov/wps/portal/fsis/topics/food-safety-education/get-answers/food-safety-fact-sheets/poultry-preparation/is-pink-turkey-meat-safe_/ct_index
i'm a vegetarian, never cooked a turkey in my life. i followed this step by step last year and my guests said it was the best turkey they'd ever had. watching again to use this year :)
@@lexg1455 I make amazing baked macaroni and cheese... I haven't eaten cheese in 30 years because of a serious allergy and even without ever tasting it I was told it was the best ever and is regularly requested. If you know the science behind cooking you can make amazing food, whether you eat it or not
I’m a new college grad and my mother trusted me to make the Turkey this year. I was freaking out but came across this video and she thought my Turkey was store bought! If you guys are contemplating trying this recipe this year, JUST DO IT! You will not regret it! Thanks so much for your help!
THANKYOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! I had been completely terrified, for at least the last 2 months, about making my very first turkey (at my advanced age, LOL) and YOU and your video made it spectaclur!! My 27 year old son, who has NEVER liked turkey absolutely LOVED it! He even came over yesterday to tell me the left-overs I gave him were even better the next day! I want you to know I must have looked at hundreds of recipes and watched at least the same in videos and yours was the best. I didn't change a thing. We couldn't be with the other 30 or so family members we always celebrate with, but you helped make this little pod of 3 (me, my husband and our son... plus 1 always hungry doggie and 2 hungry, hungry kitties) very, very thankful, happy and very full! BLESS YOU! Oh...I forgot to mention that my 13lb turkey only took 2 1/2 hours at 325 on Convection/Roast. It couldn't have been juicier!
This is my first year ever cooking a turkey. I signed up to do it for work. Thank you so much for posting this video. Now I'm much more confident I won't mess up.
I followed this recipe over the weekend for my boyfriend and I, it was my first time cooking a turkey and it came out excellent! Now I'll be making it for my family on Thanksgiving 🧡
@Downshiftology Hi!!! Can you please tell me how you put the Herbed butter underneath the turkey?? Did you just lift it up, and spread it on?? Also, someone suggested to add oil to the butter, in order not to burn it. I didn't see this comment until *AFTER* i already put the butter spread underneath the skin and some around the top and the legs/wings. With my remainder butter spread, I added 1 tablespoon of Olive Oil to it, and I'm going to mix it throughly, and use it on the turkey.... IS that okay??? It won't mess up herbed butter sauce recipe, right??
Can you *PLEASE* tell me, did you do the recipe the night before and put the Turkey in the fridge overnight?? Or did you wake up really early and prep the turkey?? I just finished setting up the Turkey, but I'm not sure if I should put it in the fridge, or leave it out until morning??
@@Downshiftology Last question (it's 3:55am going to sleep after this) I don't have a "roasting rack" I'm using an aluminum roasting pan, and I put my turkey on top of the veggies, *BUT* I'm wondering can I put some vegetable or chicken stock on the bottom of the pan?? Just to have some liquid on the bottom.. (I do plan to inject the turkey with this broth as well while cooking) and tips on injecting the Turkey, too???
I legit always come back to this video! Cooked my first turkey thanksgiving 2020 with this recipe and everyone said it was the best and moistest turkey ever. I didn’t open the oven for 3 hours and I think that really helped! Then I took it out and let us rest for 40 mins. The turkey was still hot/warm and it stayed moist!! ✨ I’m making another turkey this month and had to come back to use this recipe again!
So I used this recipe again this year and it turned out just as good as last time. This is truly a simple yet fantastic recipe. The whole family raved at how well it turned out. Thank you again, now it's time to look at your other recipes!
I'm French. We don't celebrate Thanksgiving here in France but turkey is one of the dishes that we eat for Christmas' Eve ! I'm not a very good cook but I can't wait to try your recipe ! Thank you very much ! ✨
I followed the instructions from this video and successfully made the most wonderful turkey dinner for my family. This was the first time I ever attempted to make a turkey, and it turned out juicy and delicious! Thank you so much for sharing. 🦃🦃🦃
Last year we followed this video to roast our turkey at home for the very first time. It was a great success. This year we are going to make the turkey again following this exact video. I wanna say thank you again for this great and helpful video. May you have a blessed and joyful Thanksgiving!
My family is grateful for you! We usually buy a pre-cooked turkey package somewhere online, drive out on the morning of, wait in line and pickup a pre-cooked turkey which we end up reheating for a couple/few hours, and spend the rest of the morning frazzled, assembling sides and sweating through it all. So it's quite stressful for us each year. Your recipe gave us the confidence to make our own turkey from raw/frozen and it came out GOOD and it was so much less stress this year since we followed your instructions and bought the turkey several days ahead to allow it to thaw properly.. we didn't have to drive anywhere or read any last-minute instructions. And, I love how much we've minimized on packaging and trash; so many benefits. I also ended up patting the turkey dry with a bunch of linens rather than paper towels to reduce even further (since we don't own paper towels, kinda had to improvise). The kids raved about the turkey; that's how good it was! Thank you!! I've saved this recipe and we will do it again next year. We wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving to you, Lisa, and your entire family! xoxo, Maureen
This is such a great recipe! As a mother of two, cooking is usually chaotic. This preparation was fast, and I even went out for a walk while the bird was cooking! Got a lot of compliments for this turkey + gravy. You made my Thanksgiving easy this year!!
Have been doing this recipe for the 2nd year now, and even use it for roasted chicken too. Honestly, it's the best recipe I've ever seen. So simple and beginner friendly, and always gives a perfect result, as long as you don't forget to monitor the internal temperature.
I’ve always done the Turk in my fam. This will be my 20th thanksgiving with my wife and kids. For me. The hardest thing to do while making a Turk in the time. Jeez it takes forever. I. The guy always opening the oven. I just can’t wait.
Followed this exactly today. Best turkey ever. I don’t usually eat the white meat but today I could have eaten all of it. So moist. Perfect recipe for sure. Turned out picture perfect! Thank-you!
This is going to be my first year cooking a turkey for thanksgiving and we are hosting a few hunters from Quebec so there's the added pressure lol I'm going to use this recipe and be happy I'm not completely clueless on how to do it now.
I'm making this tomorrow! I'm hosting and this is how I'll roll with the bird! Can't go wrong with all that butter and aromatics! It's going to be grand! Cheers to everyone and a very Happy TG!
I am 11 years old and I just followed your Thanksgiving turkey recipe. It was delicious, and as a bonus, we didn't burn down the house! My parents are very proud of me. Thank you for you recipe.
Thank you for making this so simple to understand. This is the first time I made a turkey like this and I need to just say, I will never change it! The recipe with all the flavors and ways to keep it moist was excellent! I we had guests and it was a kit! Thank you for showing all the steps so thoroughly. Will keep this for next year!
Thank God, a recent comment! Was your turkey pre-seasoned? I bought an unseasoned turkey for Christmas, but I’m worried about the amount of salt in this recipe. One spoon does not seem enough 😢
I followed this video step by step last year and it was amazing! Everyone loved the Turkey. Now I came back to it to have another successful thanksgiving dinner 😊
TRULEY A GREAT VIDEO. IT'S SO GOOD TO SEE PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHO HAVE GREAT COOKING SKILLS. ALSO NOT WASTING ANY MEAT AS SO MANY PEOPLE ON HERE AND SOME I KNOW LITERALLY TOSS AWAY ALL THAT DARK MEAT INTO THE TRASH!!
This is mouthwatering Lisa. You're too harsh on yourself. Thank you for this amazing recipe. I'm afraid that, due to Covid, I might enjoy this recipe all with myself rather than with my folks.
Thanks Alain! 🥰 And yeah, this year is hard with covid. But I do hope you still enjoy this recipe, and I've got recipes with Thanksgiving turkey leftovers coming up on the website as well. So all that turkey won't go to waste!
Had to come on here real quick and thank you for your recipe. I followed the instructions exactly how you said and my turkey came out super moist and juicy!!! It was my first time making it and I was so proud of myself. I was in complete shock. Thank you so much!! My family was impressed!
First time making a turkey and my picky eater kids said it’s the best turkey, it’s moist. I followed this recipe except I didn’t add rosemary and sage coz I didn’t have them. I also covered the breast with foil when it’s 2/3rds cook to prevent the breast from burning and drying then cooked it in the oven for 13 min/lb instead of 15 min/lb. When i took it out of the oven, the internal temperature at the thigh was 188F so I thought I overcooked it but still came out amazing. I never thought I could roast a delicious turkey. Thank you Lisa
Made this as my first turkey this year. I needed a little help, but it turned out very good, my family loved it! It cooked a little faster than expected. The alterations I did was: ready made herb and garlic butter. We mixed some olive oil with the butter before putting on turkey. And our store didn’t have fresh sage so we used dried sage. Thank you so much for this recipe! Was amazing!
Last year we started a tradition that me and my brother would do the turkey every thanksgiving. We used this recipe and the family loved it very much!!! Using the same recipe this year, right now!! Thank you so much!!!
I will be making my first turkey for Christmas this year its still in the freezer frozen, just removed it today after watching your video, hopefully by Friday it will be good to go. Thanks for the recipe. Happy holidays to everyone.
I did it it turned out very good although I did change the recipe coz I couldn't find rosemary and sage in my local grocery stores. Thanks again for the recipe.
I used this recipe this year, I usually use the “oven bags” and let me tell you my turkey came out so much better this year! It took a little longer to cook but believe it or not it was so much more juicy and moist than the years before!! Thank you for this video my turkey for thanksgiving was Amazing!!❤️❤️
Hi!!! Can you *please* tell me, before you put your turkey in the oven, did you put chicken stock or vegetables stock in the roasting pan as well??? I want to put some liquid on the bottom because I plan to *INJECT* the turkey as well. If you didn't put Broth at the bottom, did your veggies burn??
Made this today and came out super delicious!!! So easy and so savory. It was my first time making my own thanksgiving dinner and I super stressed but it was well worth it.
Thank you so much for showing how to cook the turkey since I’m a single woman now it’s my job to do it my husband always did it but now it’s my turn to do it so I appreciate the fact that you showed how to cut it and I love how it looks how you displayed it on your platter🍁🦃
@@overratedshits I thought that because it was still Semi-frozen, it was ruined, but it was the juiciest and most delicious turkey we have ever tasted. But we did eat close to 9 pm because of it hahaha but it was well worth it. It was such a simple recipe and we will definitely be doing it again. I'm sure your was a hit as well?
I cooked your recipe last year thanksgiving 2020 because it was my first time host thanksgiving party. It’s was so delicious, moist, crispy and flavorful. I will host 2 thanksgiving party again this year💪🏼🤞🏽 Thank you so much.
Last year was our first time cooking turkey and thanks to you our Turkey was a success. They didn’t believe we made it 😂😂 yesterday they asked me for the recipe. Thank you for sharing your recipe.
I needed a refresher my mom would always tell me the steps once a year. She passed away before this whole covid... I finally have my sister over so I want to make sure we can have show my mom in heaven we are going to get through this. I thank you for a very beautiful detailed video. God bless you! Joyeux Noël from Prince Edward Island Canada.🎄❤🌟 Oh geez I gotta get to bed according to Norad Santa is in Canada. 🎅 Thanks again
Made my first turkey this year and out of all the turkey videos I watched, yours was the one I kept coming back to for reference. Nothing fancy or pretentious...just a good, reliable recipe and well-made video. Happy to say my turkey was WONDERFUL, beautiful and delicious! The only bad thing is that my parents & family have assigned me turkey-duty from now on...oh no! haha! This will be my go-to video for years to come! Thank you so much!!!
First year cooking a turkey solo. But this was a huge hit and I can honestly say that I’ve never had a turkey as moist as this one came out. I am going to be using the herb butter for a prime rib come Christmas that’s for sure.
Thanks for taking the time to show the world a well done Turkey recipe...im a man and been cooking for 30+ years for every Holiday and still enjoy playing around with fresh and new ideas...God Bless and Happy Holidays
This will be my 2nd time using this recipe, last year came out perfect! So easy and effortless to make and your family will thank you for making such a juicy bird!
This is SO helpful, thank you!! My fiancé and I just bought our first home and we wanted to host thanksgiving this year to which I realized… I’ve never cooked a turkey😅 needless to say, I feel super prepared to do this now! Thank YOU!
Made this for thanksgiving, my friends enjoyed it so much so I made it again for Christmas. And I’m making it again for New Years 🤣 Love this recipe so much. First time making turkey too 😅❤️❤️ Tysm!
If you are looking for a FANTASTIC and SIMPLE recipe, STOP HERE at this video and USE THIS ONE!! I was so nervous before finding this video but I had already start to feel a sense of relief when I began to watch it because she is such a great teacher and kept it simple. And even showed us how to carve it! That was icing on the cake!! I roasted my first turkey this year (2020) on Thanksgiving and it turned out FANTASTIC thanks to this video from Downshiftology!! I love to cook and I am a new fan after this and will be following more recipes!
I cooked my first turkey Christmas 2020. Look forward to trying this recipe this year. Appreciate that you put the carving technique in the video. Thanks a bunch!
You should get an RU-vid award for this! Hands down THE BEST cooking video I have ever seen! Even better, would be you on a cooking show! I love to cook and I actually use cooking bags to bake Turkey for my large family. I've been told I make the BEST turkey ever. I'm not even joking...I'm going to make it this way this year. You explain everything so well and I'm really impressed with your knowledge. Definitely subscribing. Would just love to see you on a cooking show! You know how to address all the pertinent questions and concerns. Well done! Just wow
I keep reverting to this recipie over and over. Probably close to 5 times now. Not that you’d want to find out on your own, but from personal experience it is also very forgiving if you overcook.
My husband and I used this for our first turkey yesterday and it was great!! The only thing is we didn’t realize that we cooked the turkey upside down but it was still juicy and our guests loved it!
@@Downshiftology what kind of kitchen worktops do you have? I need a completely new kitchen (no money to do it), but I’d love a kitchen with worktops I could just put stuff straight down on to it.
Yum you just inspired me to use this simple recipe. I can’t wait to use my new roasting pan as well. Thank you and I’m grateful that you share your simple and healthy recipes with all of us 🙏🏼 God Bless 😘
I made my first turkey using this recipe and everyone was raving about it. Tip: If you’re using a newer model oven, I’d recommend using a digital thermometer where you can monitor the internal temperature to avoid over cooking your meat. My new Samsung oven cooked my 15 lbs turkey in only 2.5 hours at 325.
I watched your video and made mine this way for my very first thanksgiving Turkey I cooked on my own last year and let me tell you…. It was AMAZING. deliciously juicy and not dry at all, good flavor. Thanks for keeping it simple & not intimidating. I’m super happy I came across this video and will be doing the same for my Turkey this year again.
This year our Turkey was prepared using your recipe and I’m here to tell you it was absolutely perfect, delicious, succulent followed with smiles and full tummies from all attending our gathering. I can’t thank you enough for your wonderful Vlog. Know we’re all grateful.
Mum never used Rosemary or sage and her birds were exceptional. Dad could not eat pepper so we will skip that as well.. I will bast the bird with Irish butter and see now how people complicate this process which is all about internal temps. have an eight-pound bird and I will gorge myself into a stupor this year. my dog included.
Last year I cooked almost seventy turkeys, at work by using your recipe and they came out juicy and delicious, hopefully this year for thanksgiving day to cook again, thanks for sharing your videos.
This is my second Thanksgiving using this video as reference for cooking the turkey. It turns out last year wasn’t just a fluke! The turkey was just as easy to make and perfectly delicious as last year! Now I’m the designated thanksgiving turkey cook!
Merry Christmas. I made my turkey (16 pounds) exactly as you demonstrated, and it was incredible. Even the breast, as mentioned as the most difficult to get right, was perfect. As I sliced the breast meat diagonally, I was impressed with how effortlessly the knife worked its way through the meat; even as I sliced, the slightly crispy skin stayed intact as I place the meat on the serving tray. I followed as you demonstrated and had the exact result, the meat came off the carcass exactly as it did in the demonstration. Christmas dinner was successful at my house, and I gave you credit while passing along your youtube video and site address. Thank you for a detailed presentation; your caring and beautiful personality came out as you shared your artful teaching gifts while you cook. Again, Merry Christmas and the Happiest of New Years. Subtly, you convince me to buy one of those newer model thermometers to get the temperature perfect without having to open the oven so often.
Hi Mark - I'm thrilled to hear this turkey recipe was a success for Christmas dinner! Thanks so much for sharing and I hope you have a great New Years as well. And yes, that thermometer sure does come in handy 😊
I used to be intimidated by cooking a turkey, but after doing it for the first time two Thanksgivings ago, now I cook whole chickens and turkeys throughout the year regularly because it's such an easy way to make a big, wholesome meal that lasts for many days. And it freezes well!
Thank you so much! It was my first time cooking a turkey and I was so nervous I kept having nightmares about screwing it up. It turned out so good a few guests said it was the best they’ve ever had. Followed the thermometer rather than time and it was perfect
This year was my FIRST ever turkey & first ever MEAL...your video was my Go-to...must have watched it at least 50 times...a few times through & then repeating various steps...my turkey turned out PERFECT!!! Thank you soooo much 🥰
I decided to host Thanksgiving for my immediate family this year and had no idea how to cook a turkey, but this video has made me believe I can do it! Thank you so much! I'll try to update to let y'all know how it turned out. Happy Thanksgiving to all! 🍗
@@jonsnow2555 Turned out really good!! My turkey cooked really fast. She said to cook it for 15 min per pound but mine cooked alot faster. I had a 16 lb turkey and it took about 2 hours. I put it back in for an extra 20 min which made some of the breast meat a bit dry but if I wouldn't have put it back in the oven for that extra time, it would have been perfect. Great, simple recipe!
Best turkey ever. So many compliments. Thank you! I did put foil over the wings and a little foil over the top of breast because it was browning but it never burned.
I made this turkey 2021 everyone loved it, then 2022 I smoked a turkey on my smoker… the family still prefers your recipe over a perfectly smoked turkey 🤩
Thank you so much for this video!! I have been wanting to do something more than just salt, pepper and butter. I forgot the lemons so I did an orange instead. Happy Thanksgiving 🦃 ✝️🙏
Used This Recipe Last Year,I Still Used A Turkey Bag That I've Been Doing For Years, But Followed The Rest of The Recipe, and WOW The Best Turkey I've Had,Been Doing Turkey Since I Was 18 and I'm Now 65👍 Thank you for Sharing.
