Awww thanks for watching. A lot of people think they have to do everything perfect the first time and that’s just not realistic. Especially with sewing! Every pattern is different and when you accidentally buy the wrong size rib knit banding, you have to make it work 😉

Hiya, I had the same problem when I first used ribbing and it was because I had purchased a thick ribbing. It had very poor recovery and even though I cut the correct size it was massive!!! I was informed by one of my viewers that it was the wrong type of ribbing and she was right. To rescue it I just ripped it out and made the reduce the size and this worked and then going forward ordered a finer ribbing. I am about to make this and was not sure on which size pattern to go for but your review of the sizing really helped. Thank you for your honest vlog - glad to know I am not the only one who makes mistakes x

Thanks so much for your comment. I was looking at your channel while this video was processing. The stretch was appropriate for the pattern it was the thickness is what caused the problems. Well, that and the fact that I tend to stretch out knits 😂 I think next time I’ll use a different banding or just rib knit fabric to make my life easier. It’s a good pattern-you won’t be disappointed.

I have this jacket cut out and ready to sew so was delighted to stumble upon this video. Lots of good info here. My jacket is a wide wale olive corduroy with a satin lining. The rib knit I have is not very thick so hopefully will play nice. I will be really careful to sew the sleeve front and back. Great info on the zipper so hope that goes well. Thanks!

You've made good and helpful comments on the construction (zipper etc.) of this garment. I am planning to make this bomber jacket shortly and I will probably use ponte knit instead of rib knit because I already own that, it's not that bulky and it won't stretch out of shape. Anyway, your jacket looks nice.

Zip instructions are often vague in the bigger pattern companies patterns.

This zipper was a challenge because all my books used as facing and these instructions didn’t because there’s a lining. I think it turned out fine and I’ll do a better job next time.
