As someone who was born a bit near-sighted, your description of what it's like flying xPlane in VR is spot on. It blew me away, but the gauges are hard to read unless you lean up close to the panel. So I can't wait to try your solutions and see if they work!

757 Spy good luck! Look at some other comments on this thread as there have come along some new lua scripts on the org that may also help you. Don’t give up, keep tweaking till you get it... it IS possible to clear that up. Thanks for watching.

This is THE most helpful VR tips video I've come across so far - THANK YOU! I just got the Oculus Rift. And while I was blown away by the 3D experience (flying the pattern is now trivial!), the ultra low resolution was so bad I could just barely make out the runway on final. I have a powerful, recent system that runs XP at High settings quite well, so it was a big disappointment. Can barely wait to give your advice a try (I think Super Sampling is going to be the key setting for my system).

So glad this video helps! It can be frustrating at first especially if you're not used to adjusting graphics settings, and VR adds a whole new element. Eventually you'll get it all dialed in.

@@father-sonflightsimulator3838 - I agree completely with Clan Kilpatrick! Very informative! My Father-In Law's system is the one I use sometimes and he's got the same Graphics Card you have on Wind 10 64bit Pro, and I can't remember the rest of it...anyway his PC is powerful enough but the tweeking process getting these VR settings correct is borderline excruciating. I'm almost at the point to wait until it's a lot more perfected. For example using the controls in the cockpit should be seamless; and the [oculus] controller should be a Glove that interfaces automatically. That's my only complaint with the stipulation that we've got a lot to learn. Nevertheless the awkwardness of using our Logitech Saitek Pro X-56 Rhino HOTAS Flight Controller concurrently with the Oculus hand-held controllers...it just feels like we're trying to access broadband internet w/a CB Radio...it's clumsy. Anyway My Father In law is really getting into it but I chose to fly it the old fashioned way - w/three 37 inch monitors

One thing i didnt see was your pc specs and video card, which would be very helpful in knowing whether your settings might even have a prayer of working on my system. I just got the rift s a month ago but have struggled with high teens to low 20's FPS . I was also new to x plane 11 and had installed teue earyh Washington which may make a dif. My PC is i7, 6700, 16 gigs memory with GTX 1660 Ti video card. I thought that would work better than it has so far, but its been all around disappointing so far. Ill try the fps program to display, i use the debug tool but also have oculus tray tool. Thanks for your video.

@father-sonflightsimulator3838
@father-sonflightsimulator3838 5 лет назад
Don C I don’t have the rift S, but since it has better resolution already at the expense of 10Hz refresh rate you may want to lower supersampling. The max you’re going to get on rift S is 40 FPS by design, but the resolution makes up for it.

Hi @Fatty Fat-Fat . Different equipment can have different resolution and refresh rates, so it's certainly possible to have improved clarity with different VR hardware. I have not used the HP Reverb though. This video was made using the Oculus CV1 Rift, before the Rift S was out.

Mads Granum I believe that’s right; only works with Oculus. I have tried VMI Twick recently but result is mixed. I think it might work better once 11.3 is out though.

Mulberry2000 I’d wager the Ryzen is bottle necking you. Xplane does not use all cores, least not till Vulkan releases... try to optimize core usage with process lasso.

@@father-sonflightsimulator3838 i do not agree with that it is up there with most ryzen 7 cpus and is high end. It is also optimised for vr, it is the game, it is just crap as it runs off one core, that is not fault of ryzen 7 2700x. The game is poorly optimised. Also true earth gb is terrible for frame rates no matter what setting i put on it. I hate the addon it is just terrible and a waste of money. No wonder orbx does not like feedback and has strict rules for support. VR is a poorly optimised system in most games, project cars 2 being the exception. As for x plane not using all cores well that is not the fault of the cpu but the game. They need to stop thinking in terms of singular cpus that is old school 20 years ago thinking. It would not matter what ryzen i got and i am certainly not buying a new cpu for this game, or an intel they are not very good for the price.Ryzen is the way to go. @@father-sonflightsimulator3838 The game barely uses one core never mind the other 7 and even in load up it just a tad touched on all cores, but not very consistent. Most of the time it just sat on one core and never used that to much affect. i did some tweets, used the tool u said in the video. It help somewhat, but i also updated windows 10. The result was i could fly very low with true earth scenery on max high settings over liverpool and manchester airport. It is a short hope between the two cities -ie 38 miles . Still the slight stutter no an then. 'Also windows 10 uses prechascing for fast loads of a program. For example when windows start one may think chrome is not open but in the background there are 44 chrome windows saved in the ram member and it does that with other programs. That is a nightmare to sort out. MoveVR was a waste of time, not good at all. Still i am only getting 22 fps even with the max settings. So it must be xplane doing it not the system though with some caveats.

@@father-sonflightsimulator3838 There is a frame rate counter on steam for vr, it is pretty good. I have read that frame rate number is not the best way to look at vr settings. Any way i have enable my vr on msi app and use the frame rate "counter" it says 90 fps etc which is normal. Just as i thought it was not my cpu. Once caveat it does not like u switch off mic on ur oculus headset. Damn russkies, no dammn cia lol work getting though. OH i can confirm the cessna 172 can do the loop. Oh and good luck with the coronavirus in america. I hope you are your family, community and nation is ok. Please take it seriously.

Hello Jonas, Check out my video on the Cockpit 2.0 ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Whj1lA2Mb-U.html ) for details on my specs. Not much has changed since except I got the speaker system; haven't tried the buttkicker yet, haven't had time to finish setting it up. I'll also qualify that I get the 45 fps w/ max objects most of the time, except when I'm running very heavy object areas like LA basin, though 3JFPS does a pretty good job of auto managing objects for me when resources are heavy. I'll take 30 fps so long as it's a smooth experience!

TheVivolto hi there! Once you set it up the way you like it then all you do is turn them on and minimize before starting X-Plane. You may have to play around with them though as all the software including XP have been updated since I made the video. There are also new tools like OVR on the org that might be worth looking into. I’m still running it like this though and it still performs well. You have to factor in your own system capabilities. Good luck!!

Hey! Few questions. For some reason, even when I'm getting 45 fps on my monitor, it seems super jittery in my headset. I have 3jfps and my fps itself is fine but it still is nauseatingly jittery to the point where I'm almost better off training on my monitor. This even happens on minimal settings around the board. I also enabled ASW, but it doesnt seem to help. Is it like this for you as well? Is that just how vr is on x plane or am I doing something wrong? I know you aren't tech support but maybe you can help haha. If it helps I have an i5-9600k 3.7hz and an rx 590. I feel it may be that my 3.7 hz simply isnt enough to render scenery off one core (x plane infamously only uses one core to render scenery) but I'm not sure if I just came into it with too high expectations or if I'm just not having a good experience. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

I dont have tray tool, only debugging tool, so I cant set power to max. Would that be the issue?
@father-sonflightsimulator3838
@father-sonflightsimulator3838 5 лет назад
Hi Jesster! Thanks for the comment. Yes I know it can be frustrating, your situation is a little bit different than mine. Here are a few things I would recommend based on your explanation of the system you're running. Your system should be able to run X-plane, I want to make that clear! So be patient and keep trying - this is a hobby and we're always tinkering! X-plane 11 will come out with Vulcan this year it's believed, and that can open up more of your CPU capability, because of that I wouldn't really try to overclock just yet (unless you're really an expert at that), though I admit 3.7hz is low. A lot of ppl use the debug tool instead of the OTT, that's fine but just understand it's more manual. you have to set it up every time and manually go into your power settings and max power (though keep in mind when you're done in VR you'll want to return power to normal too. That's just too much work for me!). Yes, I still sometimes have spikes coming up particularly when I have a lot of scenery loading in, but it will usually stabilize. You might want to try using VMItwick VR plug-in (search for it on xplane.org) instead of 3jFPS and see if you can zero in on specific items in the scenery that are taxing your system. The great thing about VMI twick is you can run it while in VR and get immediate result feedback when you change things to see the effect on performance. Also, try minimizing any software running in the background, you may not need process lasso for example, particularly if you're not running on steam. Try running without Oculus Home (to do this you have to set it to run as administrator so it won't turn on). I would not attempt to do any screen recording or expect to be able to record your experience right now unless you have independent hardware for screen capture. Also - a big thing to realize is that you shouldn't chase FPS alone, you're chasing the immersive experience. Stable 30-35 FPS is better than a jittery 45 FPS! Finally you should probably keep Anti-Aliasing at lowest settings, make sure reflections are off, and lower objects. Don't give up! I sincerely hope you get there!

@@father-sonflightsimulator3838 Thanks so much! I'll give everything you mentioned a try tomorrow. I also ordered another 8 GB of RAM, as that's the only thing I could see may be causing issues aside from my CPU, and I just got this system so I dont want to go out and purchase a whole new CPU. Hopefully that along with your helpful info will get me where I want to be :). Ill get back to you in a couple days and let you know how it's working. Again, thank you so much!!

@Jason thanks for your interest. I got a lot busier at work which makes it harder for me to spend time making videos. What’s more my son is starting flying lessons in real life. RU-vid is no longer friendly to small content creators (actually they’re hostile now), which takes away a lot of incentive to continue. I’m glad you enjoyed the videos!

How do u justify turning world objects to max when that is one of the hardest hitting factors on fps?!
@father-sonflightsimulator3838
@father-sonflightsimulator3838 5 лет назад
Bluelight Gaming thanks for the comment; I am for the most part getting 45fps unless I’m loading scenery in a heavy object area like LA. I can adjust it down if needed. It depends on what your system can handle.

This resolution in video same resolution you see in your VR ?? Or different?
@father-sonflightsimulator3838
@father-sonflightsimulator3838 5 лет назад
mohammad ihsan it’s recorded in 1080p, I’m using an oculus rift. The biggest difference, and it’s hugely different, that when I record it only uses one eye, not two. So it’s really hard to describe what you miss out on with 2D videos. First thing is that you might notice head bobbing in the video, but you don’t notice it when you’re actually in VR. The 3D immersion is also lost when recording, so the depth perception isn’t there. Those are far bigger differences than the resolution alone.
@stewartgregerson4159
@stewartgregerson4159 5 лет назад
Resolution is lower then desktop but still infinitely better in every way then desktop games. It cannot be portrayed in a flat RU-vid video like this it's really amazing. It's been over a year and I haven't been able to enjoy any non vr game since getting VR, especially sims. Xplane runs like shit in VR because of it's old engine there are much better ones if visuals are important to you. But even xplane in VR at lower resolutions is superior to the desktop version do not let the 2d video fool you if it looks unimpressive.
