OMGosh!! Your video helped me a whole lot. Was trying to figure out for weeks a way to keep my daughter’s dress from being dragged. After watching your video, went straight to doing it and did 2 bustles in 15 mins. Her wedding is a week away so, THANK YOU!

Omg you just save me $100. My wedding is almost a month away and I just learned I need a bustle for my train. I don’t plan on dancing much since I have no rhythm lol but I still don’t want my dress dragging more than it has to. Thank you very much for this video. I will pass it on because every bride deserves to know how easy this is.

Jiex, Thank you so very much. You just saved me a lot of money and hassle. That chain store we won't mention isn't doing the alterations right now due to Covid 19. I just hemmed my daughter in law to be dress and was able to do the little chains to reconnect where they had them. I saved your video months ago not knowing how much I'd need it. Thank you.

Thank you for having this video. I had planned to have someone else do it but then not only did I have to move but I lost my job so I`ve been pushing it off. I like sewing and I`ve decided it would be much better and cost-efficient for me to just go ahead and do it myself.

My wedding is in 3 weeks, I went to go get a corset this afternoon and found out that my dress was still too small, and I was seriously going to need a bustle. I seriously freaking out. But I came across your video and It's like I had a instant weight lifted!! You made this look so easy now I will be doing my own bustle and I honestly have you to thank!!!! You are amazing!!! Now all I have to do is find an alteration place that I can afford, also can get this done in 2 1/2 weeks and can take out 2 inches on each side so I can zip it all the way! Thank you for this video you really are a life saver

Thank you for this video. I just received my dress back from the tailor after taking it in for hemming and to get one of the layers attached to the rest because it dragging on the floor when the rest were bustled. I thought I just couldn't find the tiny ribbon that was used for the bustle loop but it seems it came away while it was at the tailor. I was debating whether to take it back to get a new loop put on or whether I could just add a loop myself because I can see where the previous one was. I think I will use this technique to try to add my own loop since it seems quite straightforward.

This is a good video but I hit the thumbs down arrow because of the title. As a seamstress, my work and my fee is not a rip off. I provide a service that people want. The average for a simple bustle is about $90.00 here at this time. First, there's a lot of study and experience often needed to know which kind of bustle to use for the type of dress. Second, you need to know which layers to bustle and which not to otherwise it will constrict the ability to walk! Third, putting a needle and thread through a $1,500 or more dress is taking on a lot of responsibility if anything tears or is wrong. Especially when hemming! The fee is combat pay. Nobody is happy when a pair of black work pants is an inch short. There would be bloody murder if a wedding dress hem is too short. And rightly so since it is a very important event with a ton of pictures. And it is almost never one hem on a wedding dress, but layers of different fabrics with different weights and even amount of fabric. There are less and less wedding dress seamstresses because people are fine with paying high prices for a wedding dress but peanuts for the seamstress. A better title would have been "wedding dress alterations you can do yourself." Some people can and want to do these alterations. I'm fine with that. More power to them. You don't have to take seamstresses down to share a few of the techniques used.
@CreativeArt2Heart
@CreativeArt2Heart 4 года назад
If you are one of those who over charge customer then it doesn't apply to you. But I do have many customers who said my rate is very reasonable compare to the store where they bought their dresses. Just giving the brides some options. If they want to tackle the job they can.
@Curandera99
@Curandera99 4 года назад
@@CreativeArt2Heart I think your tips and instructions were good. It is the title. The title does not distinguish between seamstresses and store alterations. Store alterations are often very high. Probably because it is hard to find good seamstresses to work under such high volume and not be paid their worth. But the way the title reads, it just sounds that any alteration is a rip off. Maybe I'm being too sensitive. I will remove the thumbs down vote because of your reply. But I still wish you would rephrase it. Thank you.
@CreativeArt2Heart
@CreativeArt2Heart 4 года назад
I'm not putting seamstress down by any means. I am a fashion designer and a seamstress too. But it won't hurt to show others how to do it. I have more than enough customers to handle. Just trying to help others especially from store alterations w j o over charge. They make money by selling the dresses and make more on alterations. I was working for a few Bridal stores and been a contractor for years. And I know how it works. Don't take n it personal. You have local customers and can't take all customers around the world. There places that seamstress are not available and they are thankful for my videos. Plant kindness.

I’m curious why you consider wedding dress alterations a rip off? It’s a service that many women need for their wedding dresses to fit properly and for them to feel and look beautiful on their special day. Everyone is not built the same so that’s why alterations are needed and that’s why there are seamstresses who are specialized in this area to provide the service. Therefore, it’s not a rip off because no one is being scammed, everyone is being made whole.
@SewingWithMinaLolita
@SewingWithMinaLolita 2 года назад
Are you suggesting that seamstresses should provide a service and shouldn’t be paid accordingly for the service they provide? Again, confused by alterations are a rip off..
@CreativeArt2Heart
@CreativeArt2Heart 2 года назад
When the bridal boutique is charging the bride 13× of what they are paying the seamstress, that's a RIP off. I worked at different boutiques. I know how they operate when it comes to alterations. I'm not saying all bridal boutiques does it but there are some who does.
@CreativeArt2Heart
@CreativeArt2Heart 2 года назад
@@SewingWithMinaLolita Seamstress usually charge reasonable. I am talking about the bridal boutiques. I've worked in different bridal boutiques and some charge multiple times than what they pay me to do the job. If some one charge $500 for 9 bustles that's a RIP off. It takes less than an hour to do the job. I charge $90 to do it.
@SewingWithMinaLolita
@SewingWithMinaLolita 2 года назад
In any job where you work for someone else -you the employee will not get paid the actual amount of what the charge is for the service - that’s not a rip off- it’s called working for someone else who runs a business and whom has overhead and other business expenses. Just because you charge 90 for a service that another company charges more for isn’t called a rip off- it’s your chose to charge 90, and they choose to charge a different price. I, too know how it works also and this isn’t just in the wedding alteration business - people are in business to make money and if there is a demand for this service and they are getting that higher price, it’s works- that’s just how the business model works🤷🏽‍♀️
@SewingWithMinaLolita

Why do you call the work of a professional a rip off ? If you go to the doctor you -or your insurance- will pay the bill because he/she is a professional that went to school for years in order to do what you need them to do. Same with a seamstress/tailor. They go to school for years to perfect their work and skills therefore you’re paying them to put their knowledge in practice. Furthermore, materials are not free. Don’t call other people’s jobs a rip off. It is not.
@immanisaur

Some of those professionals take advantage of other people's ignorance though.
@leahcartella3938
@leahcartella3938 6 лет назад
Jenni G A lot of “professionals” do rip people off and sometimes their job really isn’t that hard, they just like to overcharge. Popular bridal shops charge over twice as much than it actually costs them and it’s ridiculous. I know a woman who worked at a bridal shop and went to FIT for 2 years and graduated and I still hemmed a dress better than she did when I was only 9 years old. Just because someone went to school for years doesn’t mean they’ll do a better job. They overcharge because they want to make as much money as possible, even if that means taking advantage of customers. A family member used to work in a bridal shop so that’s how I got my information. Jiex has been a seamstress and fashion designer for over 25 years, she’s a professional, the only thing that sets her apart from big businesses is that she has fair prices. And as for “Don’t call other people’s jobs a rip off.” Jiex is a seamstress?? I think she has the right to say whatever she wants about her own job and other people in that line of work.
@CreativeArt2Heart
@CreativeArt2Heart 6 лет назад
FYI I am a professional fashion designer who doesn't take advantage of other people or rip them off. This is why I share as much as I can to those who want to do this on their own. If you want to pay high price for their service. go ahead. No one is stopping you. This video is for those who enjoy doing the work themselves.
@jenniferzbarouskaya6551
@jenniferzbarouskaya6551 5 лет назад
She calls them rip off rightfully so!! In a lot of cases those big companies have very poorly trained “professionals” working for them. In a lot of cases they tell you things like “lace can not be taken in” or like the lady in the video says they would only hem the front of the dress but they charge you for at least double the amount of work that they actually do!! I run a dressmaking business with my mom, who is a professional dressmaker with over 30 years of experience and I can tell you the stories we hear from brides that come to us to safe their dresses days before their weddings after collecting them from alteration services!!! Shocking!!!

One lady told me price for daughter prom dress that I brought her fabric n only needed it lengthen. When I picked up she added 100.00 to price. I said excuse me ? She said you want dress pay w hand held out. Prom was that night. Yea i paid. David Bridal is another RIP off!!!!!
