Dr. Rowe shows an easy exercise that may help self correct unsightly neck hump posture.
This exercise is great to do daily to help lengthen and strengthen muscles in the neck and upper back that are associated with a dowager's hump (aka neck or buffalo hump).
It can be done at home, requires no equipment, and can give quick results.
Let us know how it works for you!

@@DrRowe Can you please tell me what causes them? Is it from pregnancies and the additional weight and how our spines get strained? I was always told it was genetic because my grandmother, mom and aunts had/have them also. I know that I first noticed that I was getting one too after I had children, but I didn't know if it was from pregnancies or age? I've even asked doctors about it and they never were able to tell me what causes it either.. To say I'm both shocked and kinda pissed off is an understatement. 😂
@kaitlinjohn3625
@kaitlinjohn3625 Год назад
Pregnancy causes your tendons to loosen so it's easier to strain things but also carrying a baby draws the shoulders forward, engorgement puts weight on the chest and breastfeeding tends to draw the shoulders forward and together - in my experience all of those combined cause mothers to go from being straight backed and open shoulders to curled forward and closed.

@LJomua
@LJomua Год назад
@@rosebud6485 mine is chronicle, from when I was born, I've done physical therapy on my neck since I was a tiny baby of 7mo because I couldn't even hold my head up. So the bump by itself doesn't bother me, my problem was the pain. But on that note, the pain comes from muscle and nerves inflammation, and as we know when we have anything inflamed on our body that it gets "bloated" and bigger, so yes in that sense it gets considerably smaller. Correcting my posture as much as I can, worked wonders in turning it to a almost non existent size. I do simple yoga stretching exercises, that definitely helped loads in correcting my posture and the bump is still there, but has drastically improved, almost can't notice it.

I do this for a spine injury from a work attack, but instead of tilting up I go down as far as I can. It releases the trauma of where the locks on the bank of lockers hit me when a guy slammed me into it and the whole 8 where not attached to the wall. I was cleaning up a glass spill and he walked over all the signage and pushed my cleaning trolley out of the way to get in. I even told him NO! Repeatedly, sometimes it’s not the patients in the hospitals that are ‘nuts’ but the person like this one. I have a lower back spine injury that I got from the same incident. I work that one out with a special therapy roller that has the rubber spikes on a long hard rubber cylinder, but there is a space missing so you can put your spine in the special grove area and roll it up and down against the wall to help with the pain instead of using drugs. 😊❤

i’ve been doing this for a couple days along with some other exercises (YWTL and just regular upper back stretching) and i’ve already noticed a huge difference. when we position our heads like this, our body overcompensates by depositing fat over the vertebrae that are holding the most strain, and this little fat-pad is almost completely gone. the position of my vertebrae are still out of wack, hump is still most definitely there, because bones don’t just move in a day, but i’ve noticed a huge difference. i highly suggest this to anyone :)

Those are great exercises for the correction. I think it's also worth mentioning that mindfulness of posture is generally good for not making neck hump worse. Also, laying face up on the ground and letting your spine settle (2+ minutes) into a corrected position at least once a day is helpful. Edit: I've also found it useful to lie (lay? 😅) face down, chin tucked, hands flat on the ground under the forehead, for about a minute. Then when I get up, do some slow neck movements in the 'good neck posture' position, especially looking over each shoulder (several times).

I know that that's when I noticed that it seemed to get worse. After I had my youngest son, but I thought it was because I was getting older, even though I was only 21. Please explain how this exercise gets rid of neck hump.
@GurlzGotIssues
@GurlzGotIssues Год назад
This exercise is strengthening the muscles in your upper back and the muscles that hold your neck. When your muscles, facia, and bones are aligned properly the hump goes away. This really works but don't be like me.... continue the exercises even after your hump dissappear. Mine keeps coming back 😢😮

I did thus ONCE and I feel really good . I've been wanting to get rid of my neck hump for ages now . I used to be really insecure and would always hold my head low , but now that I finally have that peace and raise my head high , it's time to get rid of that hump❤

@@amylee3531 That's a really good point. This video should come with warnings for people with cervical issues-or just anyone with a weak neck, period. Doing this exercise is not a realistic expectation for many of us. I mean, have you looked at this guy's neck? It's huge. My neck is a toothpick by comparison; no muscles at all.

We're you told like myself that it was genetic by your mom? 😑 I've even asked doctors when I was younger if they were preventable, and they never seemed to know anything either. I just wonder what actually causes them? I know my grandmother and my aunts have them, but my uncle's don't? Why do women get them and not men? I wonder if it has anything to do with pregnancy? That seems like I remember noticing it after the birth of my youngest child.. idk, just wondering..

@dana102083
@dana102083 Год назад
@@reneecaballero9624 women are more mobile due to hormones and are more prone to osteoporosis. Posture related issues like looking downward cooking, cleaning, reading, raising/lifting children.. all things forward bring posture out of alignment with muscular changes and spinal movement. I have hypermobility myself and my neck especially and also my shoulders, which become angry at each other as nothing stays in place. Its hard to know where myneck is moving (poor proprioceptioin) and my muscles are the glue that hold me together. Hypermobility worsens during premenstrual due to hormones for my exaggerated symptoms as well.

See another thing to note is you gotta message your neck muscles first u need to soften them first I mean properly deep massage deeply. Before doing this, don't do it with cold or barely massaged muscles as you're going to harm yourself more then if u just left it alone.
