Love the content and ideas. Currently I only have 1 kratky container in a 10 gallon tote. A couple of questions I hope you can answer? How food safe is it to grow in either the home depot bucket or your gutter downspouts? My next kratky systems will probably be the downspouts that you've designed. I like the portablity and ease of use.

Mike, growing greens is FUN-n-FULFILLING but, how a-bout doing a video or two on growing something like "Chinese Long Beans" in hydroponics, INDOORS for those of us who live WAY UP NORTH or in SIBERIA? And can we grow things like Yard-Long-Beans in the top bucket of a Grow Tower, with shorter Greens in the first & second bucket?

Because I am keeping it cheap and easy for beginners. You can give it a try. Lots of people doing other things in our group and sharing.

Like the idea of stacking the buckets. You say to fill to just under the holes with water. The noodle is a great idea. How do yo keep the water level filled to where you recommended. Do you have to unstack to fill? I am a senior senior old lady and I don't think I could lift them off to fill. I have watched your videos over and over. Am I missing on how to keep the water level at the right level? Please let me know. Thanks

I showed in a few videos. Just leave one hole empty in the back but keep it covered when not in use. You can use a funnel or cut a coke bottle in half if you need.

New to your channel and it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for. Have you experimented with saving seed from your plants or do you always buy new seeds?
@KeepOnGrowin
@KeepOnGrowin Год назад
Welcome. I save some seed on the plants that are prolific and have loads of seed per plant like lettuce, kale and pak choi. I buy microgreens in bulk and some are like hundreds of thousands of seeds for about $20. That's a lot of plants.

I’ve used this method to start my lettuce, broccoli, and tomatoes. My problem is that the roots are growing and clinging to the paper towel. Since they are fragile, most are breaking. How do you suggest getting them transplanted? Thanks for your help

So I see in this video you cover the seeds with a top tray to block out light. I have seen other videos where people do not cover the seeds for germination and place in a window. Which way works best to get seeds to germinate?

Question Mike, when I use paper towels as the substrate, the new roots hold fast to the paper towels. Most of them break off in trying to liberate them. Any advice?
@KeepOnGrowin
@KeepOnGrowin Год назад
Don't try to pull just one out, pull several at once. Tear the paper towel if needed and leave it on. I covered this in another video.
@Metqa

I got much better survival by doing as Mike suggests. Eetting the paper heavily and tearing the paper and taking whoever comes with! Also noticed that the noodles are springy enough to accommodate the full growth of a couple of plants sometimes, compared to the spots with just one, they grew just as well, or at least the bigger plant takes over but the smaller still produced.

Keep the buckets topped off. 3.5 gallons weighs over 25lbs in each bucket. You can always secure the bucket handle to the wall.

Could you do that with tomato and pepper seeds as well? Just spaced out more? Our does this only work for greens? This is such an amazing trick.
@KeepOnGrowin
@KeepOnGrowin Год назад
Yes, but start with greens until you get the hang of it. Use small varieties of tomatoes like Roma or cherry and use only one plant per bucket.

This year im going to germinate my seeds with a container and about 3/4in sand. Ill put a peroxide bottle filled with water and holes in the bottom off to the side. I thought about a gateraid bottle but im bugged by algae. Do you have trouble with seeds binding in the paper towel?
@bocadelcieloplaya3852
@bocadelcieloplaya3852 Год назад
yes, just tear the paper towel, a little bit of the paper is not an issue in the nutrient solution.
