This is so funny. Re: Justine saying she switched from nursing to history. I went to nursing school at Deaconess College of Nursing across from Forest Park in St. Louis back in the 90s. It has since been torn down. But I wanted to leave to study history instead but my parents were not ok with it. So I have a degree in nursing but I teach history and science at a homeschool co-op. I don’t regret the medical knowledge I have because I married a hemophiliac and one of my children had chronic illness. God knew I’d need it ❤ And He knew you’d use history so well to educate others and enjoy His story. I love your channels. Y’all are so kind to one another and it’s sweet to see.

Laughed out loud when you said beans on toast are popular in uk. I was sitting eating this as you said it home made bread slandered in fresh butter covered with baked beans in tomato sauce thickened by pat of fresh butter and topped off with natural Scottish mature cheddar cheese. I live in Scotland and actually did cook over the fire when I visited my great aunt and grandmother who lived on the isle of Harris in a traditional croft.

My dad, who is 93, lived in Boston during the depression. Of course there wasn’t much money, so his mother would often make a big pot of inexpensive Boston baked beans to feed her six children. What didn’t get eaten one day would get reheated for the next day, and so on. Eventually they would become a sort of dry paste which would be spread on bread and become a bean sandwich. With ketchup.

Justine, you are such a creative and brilliant young woman, and Ron, you are an impeccable gentleman, as well as capable and resourceful. Were I still teaching American History (emphasis on Civil War medical practices), I would share some of your videos with my classes. By the way, no further Stephenson House plays? Warmest regards!

Yes Lady Justine!!! I would pick the bowl of fresh fruit over candy any day! Bananas, strawberries, blueberries, rasperries, blackberries, oranges, apricots, grapes, cherries, apples, watermelon, fresh green & purple figs, kiwi, peaches, plums, pears, fresh lemon juice tossed into the bowl and add a generous helping of heavy cream whipped with sugar and a dash of real vanilla extract.......my tummy is growling.....I think I have a dusty can of fruit cocktail {probably expired 🤣} in the back of the pantry......🤔. LOL 🥰 you are all invited. Everyone else bring the wine and any other aperitif (sp?)(sweet, alcoholic beverages).....I have the tea & coffee here. Nice idea....g'night to you all.

Beans on bread we ate often as kids growing up on the farm. We still make bean sandwiches at Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner and we are in our 40s now 😆 the kids think we are crazy! I love watching you both ❤❤

In Australia, we call them Broadbeans, although I was born in Chile and our name is closer to your fava beans. They’re VERY easy to grow! They’re like the first thing beginner gardeners or children plant and grow!

You two are so refreshing! I always look forward to watching both of your channels! You inspire me in the way that you so gladly embrace the simple ways of life and the old traditions. I grew up in a home with beautiful Colonial/1800's décor to the max! This was my Mom's passion.....and I loved it too! This meal looks yummy! Keep up the great work Justine & Ron!

I do love y'alls videos. I hope u never quit. Pay no mind to people being offended by Ron's knees showing. In today's society u cant turn on the tv or go outside without seeing someone show way more than that. My dad always said " people will gag at a knat but swallow an elephant!" Its very true. The great thing about america is if u find it offensive, dont watch. We still have that freedom. Thank u both for these wonderful videos and all the time in which it takes to send them out. Blessings.

Justine, I also went to college to be a nurse, but changed my major to history. I’m a certified teacher (in the state of Georgia) like you. I’m certified to teach US History and World History. Old medicine also fascinates me, especially medical practices from the 1800’s and early 1900’s. Man, I didn’t realize we had so much in common. Neat!

I stumbled onto your channel Early American and really enjoy the historic receipts and that your actually cooking them. While watching this video you mentioned the disease scurvy and you were not sure when vitamin c was discovered as a common cure for it. Hopefully this helps, quoted from sciencehub; 1747 - Scurvy and citrus link-British naval surgeon James Lind selects 12 men from HMS Salisbury, all suffering from scurvy. He divides them into 6 pairs, giving each group different additions to their basic diet. Those fed citrus fruits experience a remarkable recovery. My husband and I have been re-enactors for decades focused on the 19th century. My husband is still active in the 119th Pen Irish Brigade and he also enjoys Early American and the cooking!
