Hi Dr Gundry. Loved your pod cast. I’ve been on the plant paradox for 6 months. I take magnesium and potassium twice a day, but, I have major cramping in my calves and hamstrings almost every night. I’ve never had problems with this before. Any suggestions?
@ryanmccleery323
@ryanmccleery323 5 лет назад
I wonder if you could check with your naturopath about potassium? We are in fall, entering winter shortly. Potassium is something we mostly get during summer months, pretty much anything green (leafy greens etc). During summer, we tend to get sun on our body which creates vitamin D, which also allows the body to hold calcium. Well, I know my ND has mentioned to me to avoid too much potassium in winter months because it confuses the body (the body thinks it's summer, and thus your kidneys go on holiday and stop producing D - BECAUSE it assumes your skin will provide it from the sunshine). As a result, your body has no D, and also urinates out all your calcium. Many things happen after this (domino) effect. But, notice how many people in society are eating out of season (as Gundry explains) and have vitamin D deficiency and osteoporosis is also high (no calcium). A lot of this is coming from bad diet, and eating out of season. I, personally, don't eat ANY fruit during the winter. None. Buying blueberries here in Canada (that are shipped up from Chile or Argentina) is a big no no. It would totally confuse my body. Anyways, I'm wondering if any of this could be causing the cramps (because usually the magnesium would be helping). The only thing that ever gave me cramps, was when I was taking too much resveratrol - antioxidants from grapes, wine etc. Bottom line, check in with a naturopath or md and explain your diet, your personal situation and all the meds/supplements you might be on. One final note on 'seasonal eating' and vitamin D etc. You could be living in Hawaii, working in an office all day. If you don't get sun on your body (or plaster yourself in sunscreen), then your body can also assume that it's still 'winter.' Some healthy sunshine could be helpful, therefore. Eating with the seasons is also important.

You mentioned chimpanzees. They are primarily vegetarian, but have been observed eating meat when it presents itself, much like our gatherer ancestors before we started hunting. Their primary source of animal protein is termites which they have been observed making tools to extract termites without destroying the mound. See Jane Goodall's landmark book on chimpanzees.

Is there any truth about olive oil being rancid...and oxided by the time it’s bottled ...and consumed..
@Ramiromasters
@Ramiromasters 5 лет назад
From what I've learned from his books is, its really hard for Olive oil to become rancid. What is more of a worry its the quality of it, if it freezes its good if not then its adulterated and you shouldn't consume it.
@ryanmccleery323
@ryanmccleery323 5 лет назад
Yes, there is. Olive oil is best consumed within one month after opening if (and within a few months of its crush date). Now, that said...a high quality oil will last many months after that, but the longer you go - yes - you risk the oil going off, or reducing it's strength. A few things to note: olive oil (like maple syrup) is relatively expensive. Therefore, it has attracted counterfeits (most of which are garbage, and almost always rancid!). So, like all things in life, "you get what you pay for." Second: there are various types of olive oil with varying degrees of polyphenol count. Polyphenol is like saying antioxidants in blueberries. The higher the polyphenol count, the better. You will get a little spicey feeling at the back of your throat when consuming a decent polyphenol count oil. Most major cities now offer boutique olive oil stores. I would look around your community and see what you can find. Because, typically, these boutique shops are all buying from similar wholesalers that are bringing in FRESH product once it's been crushed and bottled. Pay attention to seasons - this time of year, we are getting (should be getting!) fresh oil from Chile, Argentina, South Africa and various other places. Then, in other months, you could be getting product from California, for example. A fresh bottle of oil may say "Crushed on May 2018" for example, while today it is October 23, 2018. This is fine. It takes time to process, bottle, deliver worldwide and so on. You just don't want an oil that is 1 year or 2 years old. It doesn't necessarily mean it's bad, but over time the polyphenol count may not be as strong. Second, for lower class/calibre product, yes indeed, it could be rancid. If you want to learn a little bit about olive oil, you could google: Vancouver Olive Oil Company (or phone them, they are super cool). Learn about regions of the world olives are grown, the seasons, and the product. Once you taste good oil, you'll never be able to go back to your grocery store and buy a $5 bottle of oil. Sometimes people say that $30 for a bottle of oil is too much, but funny...they'll pay that much for a bottle of wine, and it's gone in one evening! Or, we'll spend money on flat screen tv's or whatever. Pay $ on your body, and feel better. One company I can recommend is Domenica Fiore (they sell online too) - this won the worlds competition for best oil. I've tried it, and it's really good. One things I'll note about Domenica is this: they use stainless steel bottles, and seal with nitrogen. This locks in freshness and potency, and I can say that I've tried a bottle that was 2 years old, and it was fine. Generally speaking though, you want younger oil, if you just buy a bottle that comes with a cork. Also, you can look into Veroninca Foods Co., Oakland California 510 535 6833 (this is the info on the back of my Vancouver Olive Oil Co bottle). Good luck, consume your oil within a month if possible! Gundry drinks/consumes 1 litre of olive oil a week!

always look at oils in the bottle on their Vitamin E content, since it's a antioxidant. Olive oil is perfectly safe since it contains approximately 25 grams of Vitamin E for 100 ml

I was on a low-fat diet for 30 years and exercised regularly and then I got several auto-immune problems, ALL of which have been corrected on your diet. In addition to olive oil, I really like coconut oil (glad you mentioned it!) and my triglycerides are now coming in at a really low number. How do you rank it next to olive oil? I tend to use coconut oil more because I like the flavor. Should I be substituting olive oil for the coconut oil?

Which brand of olive oils would you recommend?
@yesumessiah7696
@yesumessiah7696 5 лет назад
I read a frightening report years ago about how olive oils like honey used to be so doctored with additives, unless you bought a name brand, you didn't know what you were getting. I use Bertolli, an established brand that uses Mediterranean non-gmo olives. While it's considered middle of the road for taste and texture for using straight but great for cooking. I have no problem drinking it to get my daily dose. Add some apple cider vinegar for flavor. Must be extra virgin olive oil, EVOO and cold pressed, which most of the reputable vendors have. As for cost, it's a decent buy and won't break your wallet.

Any 'Virgin Olive Oil'
@ryanmccleery323
@ryanmccleery323 5 лет назад
Donna, see my comment just above. Basically, search for a boutique oil store in your neighborhood. If you can't find one, or you want to get deeper answers on how you can, google: Vancouver Olive Oil Company. This is who I buy from. Best product, worldwide...and offered seasonally. Right now, my oils are from Chile and S. Africa as an example. If you want to try a product online, you can search Domencia Fiore. They make great oils, and won best oil last year. Remember something about oil, you get what you pay for. $30+ is not always a bad thing. We pay that much (or more) for a bottle of wine, and it's gone in one evening! Oil is actually very cheap, if if last you a month - and yes, it's best to consume your oil in one month after opening. A high quality oil won't necessarily go bad, but it falls off in potency. Check your 'crush dates,' and get a bottle that you are opening only after a couple to a few opens after crush (when they 'crush' the olives, press, bottle, then deliver worldwide). And finally, you want to ask about polyphenol counts. This is the strength potency of the oil. The stronger it is, the better (for health benefits). Polyphenol is like saying antioxidants for blueberries. A lower polyphenol oil (of high quality) can be equally delightful and more yellow in color - good for salads! The strong oils are more green in color, and can be a little bitter. Some may use those for meats, or even for cooking things like eggs (because the higher the polyphenol, the better it's smoke point). You'll note, bad oils break down quick, and then create free radicals in your body, which is very inflammatory. Have a great day!

Brand, not sure where you are in the world but go for a dark bottle if you can and higher end price. The extra virgin is best on salads but not great for frying or roasting. Coconut oil is great for that. Otherwise look at the oil. If its in a clear bottle, if it looks pale its not great. Just what i have learned.

Dr. Gundry. Thanks for being there for us. I have a question about olive oil. Is Extra Virgin better than Non-EVO? I get a lot of my daily olive oil ration from my homemade mayonnaise. I have used EVO, nonEVO, MTC and avocado oil. My preference is Carbonell regular olive oil because EVO has a more “bitter” flavor. But, i wonder if eliminating the bitterness also eliminates the polyphenols?

Thank you. Green bananas are said to be acidic. Some people fry them like "potato" fries. Sweet potatoes according to research all potatoes except rosey red are hybrids.Something to do with the Irish people going to a place and then the potato changed. So oats are okay to eat? Atleast from the lectin standpoint. That doesn't count for possible GMO or the other tampering. To eat beans we must soak them for 24 hours, changing the water and rinsing them every 3 hours; the pressure cook them. Not much rest. Millet has been said to cause trouble with the thyroid. Help!!I use oil oil. You lost me on the dates come from palm trees and the you talked of palm oil. Now I always thought palm oil was from the coconuts. I am so trying to do these.

Humans have been eating animal saturated fats since we climbed out of the trees. We have been eating sugar preservatives and chemicals and smoking since about 1900. Which causes heart disease? Before accepting any dietary advice from an expert find out what's religion and or who they work for

You recommend President's butter in your cookbook. I emailed the company and asked what kind of cows they have. Holstein unfortunately.

Great advice, Dr. Gundry! Thank you so much! Nice the parallel with the gorilla and the horse, but they have a much different digestive system, bugs and gut length, too. They are adapted to eating leaves. We are not. I have dough a question , that I keep repeating on each blog you post, maybe this time I'll be lucky with an answer: Why grape seeds flower is on the yes list foods and the grape seeds oil is on the NO list?

I love your show and your approach, it has helped me a lot. But chimps eat 50% fat, 25% protein and 25% carbs and heaps of fiber., and not just leaves.

We dont get good quality Olive oil in India and they are expensive also. We get reasonably good quality coconut oils and Ghee but both are saturated fats. Are they good to consume in long term ??

How funny I’m driving through Loma Linda right now to go to the store. We live in east highland. I remember eating The cafeteria food there when I was pregnant. My baby rejected that “bbq meat”! Oh it’s so bad.

You need to use tampón and pads made without clorox or detergents. Go to the internet. Healthfood store

U need to use progesterone cream, iodine, selenium supplements to shrink fibroids. Many women have done this by themselves. Look up Dr Northrupp, Dr Berg, Barbara Hoffman on utube etc

Okay, I have one doubt from your book: You said non-edible seeds of fruits when unripe contain higher lectin levels. Later in the book (part 2), you say eat unripe papaya because of it being a resistant starch. Now, papaya has non-edible seeds so it means unripe papaya has high lectin content. Isn't this a contradiction?

The papaya will send you to the bathroom. They kill parasites too I guess they are okay. I eat them.

Hi dr Gundry , my name is is AnnMarie . My husband and I have been using vital reds for about 2 years just about everyday and we love it. I just recently bought the plant parodox book and i started to take all the grains out of my diet and started to eat more of the vegetables that you suggest.I also started to take you pre biothrive.i have been mixing vital reds and the biothrive together so the the biothrive is easier to intake. Unfortunetly a have been experiencing lots of bloating and lots of gas.I feel extremely uncomfortable . I don't know if is from the biothrive or to much fiber. I would love to continue taking your products but i d'ont know what is causing these issues. Can you please help and what should i do? Thank you.
