I’m Japanese origin USA citizen. In Japan we consume RICE BRAN OIL For deep frying food like TONKATSU TEMPURA, etc. And it is said 100%vitaminE content. High temperature tolerance, slow to oxidize. It is available in Japanese supermarkets in USA. It does make non greasy crispy job. What is your take ??????
Dr. Gundry, this was a great interview. You covered many of my questions with clarified answers, eg: cooling the potatoes & rice for 8 hrs so resistant starch is created. Plus I would include porridge to the list. Thanks
Thanks Dr Gundry for all this information!, i have been following your advices for more than a year now, and gout attacks have diminish 75% in frecuency and intensity. Can´t belive how bad used to feed myself for years.
Great interview. My biggest takeaways were that I should store my fish oil in the freezer and I should cool my starchy food for 8 hours. I imagine just making a big tub of rice or sweet potato and storing it in the fridge for easy access would be a pretty convenient solution.
Me too! I used to have salt cravings during a migraine attack. I read a tip that placing salt on the tongue may relieve it, which it often did! I have v frugal eating habits so to ensure I don’t get deficient I make my own electrolyte drink with a tsp of Himalayan salt n 3 to 4 times as much potassium (cream of tartar is potassium bitartrate) with added lemon juice n ACV. I sip this in water throughout the day. It’s made such a difference to my life esp after suffering adrenal fatigue due to prolonged stress. My BP is excellent. RDA of Potassium is 4.7GRAMS which we r all deficient in, hence ppl have high BP. Instead of increasing potassium levels in relation to sodium, ppl r advised to cut their sodium. We cannot function without maintaining an adequate sodium: potassium balance in virtually every cell.
I find this very interesting conversation regarding fats, animal fats , Olive oil as a fat . I was brought up on a farm in New Zealand where we had whole milk and cream unpasteurised and all my days of consuming it I never suffered to my knowledge any negative effects. I am 75 yrs old I had my blood pressure tested yesterday it was according to my wife excellent . I will not drink homogenised milk as I don't trust. ... I had a client tell me that his grand-daughter had a rash on her legs and I told him to get his daughter to get raw milk from his farm and not to drink the pasteurised milk and yes the rash disappeared. I have never worried about sugar I still have the very dark sugar on my cereal with large amounts of blue berries.... I love all kinds of editable dark berries . I am not on any medication whatsoever, but I am concerned about the whole meal bread and flour today due to how the the grower treats his ground before drilling ? does he use roundup? this I need to know.... But in saying all this I do think I need to make changes to my diet to a major degree mainly in the grain consumption
Erl Roe - unpasteurized whole milk directly from a cow or goat is the healthiest thing anyone can drink. The reason they pasteurize it is because raw milk does not have a long shelf life so it's difficult to sell raw milk in stores but if you buy it directly from a farmer, it's okay to drink since it hasn't been sitting on a shelf for long. Pasteurization takes out all the vitamins and enzymes that are naturally in raw milk which is why people develop lactose intolerance to pasteurized milk since there are no enzymes in there to help you digest it properly. Only thing good in pasteurized milk is the protein, all the other nutrients have been taken out cuz of the pasteurization process.
Rosie Pena spot on. After I switched to raw milk my symptoms disappeared. Also tastes delicious 😋. Just trying to get traditional raw cheeses too as I still get migraines after eating a small amount of supermarket cheese.
Dr. Gundry, I wish your books were all released with the Spanish version just as available. I have Spanish speaking doctors in my family that I would love to share this knowledge with!!
Southern Europeans have been consuming olive oil for ages, up until the 50s and 60s, when farming was still a labour intensive activity, these workers many times had bread that they ate with olive oil and olives and sometimes not much more. Today, olive oil is still common place, everyday cooking, stews and grilled dishes start with olive oil and garlic, soup ends with olive oil, some even fry in olive oil. In the Fall, there are olive oil tastings, similar to wine tasting events. Also, it is relatively inexpensive, and many still harvest olives and make their own every Fall/Winter to use for the year and we buy locally whenever possible.
My parents ate it as a delicacy. I remember many older ppl in UK ate organ meats n it was fascinating as a child to stare thru the window of the butchers shop.
Guido Brunelli jr. Just to make sure I understood right, he said to cool potatoes, yams, rice for 8 hours and then you can eat it. This will lower the sugars it has correct?
I am on cyclical keto for 10 mnts.. near my goal weight too.. was shocked seeing my blood report .. i was deficient on sodium and chloride.. mg and potassium are at perfect levels, which i was expecting to be low.. loved this video
I've gained 8 lbs in a month from adding unsweetened shredded coconut and coconut oil... coconut flour also helped pack on these few lbs, I also consume coconut milk ( no added sugars)... i noticed this evening on my fitness pal that i am consuming over 100 grams of saturated fat per day. So between the saturated fat consumption and Adding intermittent fasting (20/4) daily and remaining in ketosis this entire time, I'm gaining weight STILL while working out a minimum of five days per week. 😬😬
But that's impossible, coconut oil makes pigs skinny, so you a human couldn't gain weight on it ;D. Oil is the most calorie dense food you can eat, and an easy way to lose weight is to cut it out of your diet. I wouldn't suggest removing all fat from your diet, but I do almost the opposite of keto and lost weight easily and am keeping it off. Fruits, vegetables, grains, beans and potatoes mostly, with whole food sources of fat like nuts, avocado, and soy in moderation.
Sheep's/cow's brain lightly fried in evo oil is a traditional receipe here in central Italy. So plenty of omega3 without pills. Unfortunally only few people still eat organ meats
Hi Dr Gundry. What is the reason to cool sweet potatoes? What are the benefits to our body? Love Japanese purple sweet potatoes occasionally and want to learn how to optimize the nutritional and health benefits.
Cooling starchy foods like potatoes n rice increases the resistant starch content by about 50%. This gives it a higher fibre content so the carb does not all change into glucose on digestion ie lower sugar spike. The higher fibre content also feeds beneficial gut bacteria which is healing to the gut. Hope this helps.

No wonder people get confused and I'm the worst because I listen to everybody telling about the latest study which proves this, disproves, that and I think they re emphasizing what's important and now today I'm told that's not the important aspect, something else is. I'm beginning to think there are just too many cooks. I decided to follow Dr Gundry and I find I'm still confused as hell.
You are quite studious and sincere, but we can't digest so much of you thoughts at a time. Please see if they can be arranged in a short span for around ten to fifteen minute one at a topic. Grateful for your service
So this guy says good to cook with olive oil, other people say do not cook with olive oil. Some people say the plant based diet saved their lives, other people say Paleo style diet saved their life. Oh well.
Great podcast ,it re established things I know and I learned a few more things which brings me to a question ; If I cook my starches and cool them can I reheat if I like to eat them warm and still get the extra benefits? Thank you Dr !
Hi Dr Gundry, I like supplementing essential nutrients from wholefoods and therefore can I get all my essential omega 3s from walnuts and hemp seeds? They are really high in them but I couldn't find out their EPA DHA content.
"Pastured eggs" at 22:13 is a little strange to me. Is this something that is used in the U.S. to mean eggs from "free range" hens (I live in Europe)? We can get butter and milk from pastured cows, which means cows are eating the grass in the pasture. But chickens don't eat grass. So on the face of it the term "pastured eggs" is a misnomer. Can someone enlighten me?
Does anyone know how we can assess whether our fish/krill oil isn't oxidized? It's pretty expensive and altho from here on in will obviously keep it in the freezer it would be nice to know if the stuff I have has some benefit.
Will you comment on WHEN to take supplements, like my fish oil capsules? Should I take them within my intermittent eating window, or anytime during the day?
@Linda Gottschalk, excellent question. Another question I would ask is: how do you establish, which fish eg Salman is wildly sourced and which is not, especially with all the " bad" commercial labeling going.?
It’s best to take oily supplements with a meal as fat soluble vitamins like A and D etc are better absorbed. After a greasy meal, the bile emulsifies fats which helps to digest n absorb them.
My son works underground, he brings himalayan salt with him its hot down there and he tells everyone they need salt, the nurse said no salt.. he said men are passing out we need to replace electrolytes as we sweat it out.. now they have packs of salt and put into water..
Bev Cotton They used to call it ‘Miners cramp’ in 60s when after profuse sweating they drank plain water. The remedy was to drink salt water to replace what was lost in the perspiration. The modern world is stepping backwards.🙃
My parents ate it as a delicacy. I remember many older ppl in UK ate organ meats n it was fascinating as a child to stare thru the window of the butchers shop.
So....Can someone inform me of the correct procedure in which to cook a sweet potato? How long do you steam as to not overcook? I'd rather steam than bake. Then I guess I need to cool as well.
Sweet potatoes have v low lectins so are on Dr Gs ok list. It’s white potatoes that have high lectins so need to pressure cook them n preferably remove the peel. Hope this helps.
Hello Dr Gundry, a little while ago i bought a bottle of E.V. Olive Oil which is made/formed in Australia. It contains (amoung others) a so-called Antioxidant......."SQUALENE" Is this an OKAY substance or no ?
Dr G. Is there any health benefits or drawbacks to black pepper? It seems to be quite the popular seasoning and I’m curious if it actually has any beneficial components to it
Phillip Woolston - Eww i can't! but good for you if you can eat it whole! I'm not a big fan of seafood so getting the Omega 3s in my diet has been difficult.
Dr Gundry , Does increasing muscle mass improve metabolism and fat burning, if it do, then how can i do that without using animal protein, Because I have heard that Animal protein can be bad. Also how you were able to burn fat because you said you had higher insulin level past and unable to reach that fat burning mechanism
Hi, Around 24:20 Dr. Gundry states that Dr Mercola had some adverse effects from being in ketosis all the time. Does anyone know what those adverse effects were/are? I'm trying to sort out how to apply the ketogenic diet and want to know what ill effects can occur from being in ketosis all the time. thanks!
I think you need metabolic flexibility. So use keto therapeutically. Can be hard on body to always burn fat. So switch into some weeks including fruit. Then switch back out into more keto. This is my understanding.
Dr. D elaborated on this: if you cool it for 8 hours it reduces the glucose and quadruples the fibre content (which is beneficial for good bacteria in our guts.
Only from cows which produce milk with A-2 casein in it. You also want to limit your overall intake of saturated fats because it increases LDL cholesterol, especially in people who have a genetic predisposition.
again, not everyone can afford grass fed beef daily. wendy's and mcdonald's ingredients are all beef. They are deep fried. Avoid sugar like the plague, including fruits. Avoid all wheat.....it turns into sugar. Avoid seed oils...fried foods and anything in a box or package Eat beef, chicken(with skin), lamb, veal, pork, seafood Organ meats if you can stand it. Sorry grass fed butter, huge source of k2, CLA and other nutrients. Pastuered eggs. Cheese, Very little vegetables if any
I don’t agree with everything. Early Sapiens could have their long chain DHA from saturated fats. Enzymes like desaturase and elongase can extend and add those bonds to the fatty acids to produce these essential fats. They didn’t have to eat brain directly... just any animal fat would do it. Now when he says these enzymes aren’t very efficient, well it depends. For some populations (or at least earlier populations) these enzymatic activities were more than enough. We don’t all have the same genetic configuration. This can be easily demonstrated by showing the major variations observed between hunter gatherers, eastern nomads and early farmers, which show genetic distinctions in many regards, even for their amylase (starch digestive enzyme) activity. Believe it or not, early humans with blood group O are the most efficient for saturated fat utilization ( please don’t be one of those who still believe blood groups are not related to anything else). Type A group for instance, lost their efficiency for long chain fatty acid assimilation and saturated fat processing. (Intestinal alkaline phosphatase reduced, LPS susceptibility via saturated fat transport, and higher susceptibility toward dysbiosis because of that reduced IAP). Indeed looking at a map from earlier humans shows that type A population thrived in coastal areas, where they could metabolize directly the marine DHA from fishes and seafood. The higher tolerance of type A toward microbes (because of their friendly A-like antigen and their reduced IAP) provided a efficient capacity for tolerating these marine products along with more recent plant products.
6:46 Dr. Gundry and Dr. James DiNicolantonio, you should really try eating some brain. Its a delicacy in India and Pakistan and its ...PLAIN DELICIOUS. Though I wouldn't know if we cook it right. Basically we stir fry it with our usual spices : oninin, garlic, ginger and turmeric, cumin, chilli, coriander and salt. Kindly let us have your opinion on this. Thanks
It’s better to cook it then let it cool.
