BATH:
Bath is an historic Roman and Georgian spa city. This a World Heritage Site, is 100 mi west of London and 15 miles southeast of the nearest big city, Bristol. Set in the rolling Somerset countryside on the southern edge of the Cotswolds, Bath offers a diverse range of attractions for its 4.4 million visitors each year: restaurants, theatres, cinemas, pubs and nightclubs, along with interesting museums, and a wide range of guided tours.
Bath is guaranteed to delight. iconic visitor attractions such as Stonehenge and Longleat Safari Park, great boutique shopping, fantastic nightlife, fabulous festivals and a remarkable range of restaurants, bars and cafés.
English Food:
British cuisine has been described as "unfussy dishes made with quality local ingredients, matched with simple sauces to accentuate flavour, rather than disguise it".[1] However, British cuisine has absorbed the cultural influence of those who have settled in Britain, producing many hybrid dishes, such as the Anglo-Indian chicken tikka masala. Among the many amazing traditional British dishes we can find the famous Fish & chips, Bacon Sandwich, Sunday roast, full English breakfast, and simpler food, such as the famous pastries, and more. British tea is known worldwide and British beer is becoming more and more popular. Overall, British food has a lot to offer, and Bath seemed to be one of the best places to experience it all.

That was not a traditional bacon sandwich. No brown sauce? And it should be between 2 slices of white bread. Not a crusty roll. Sacrilege lol

Brown sauce is HP sauce, standing for Houses of Parliament. The Frogs reckon the Brits have only ever invented three sauces, custard, HP and Worcestershire sauce, although it has to be said, we nicked the latter two from Indian recipes. So to sum up, we've invented only one but if you're only going to ever taste one sauce in your life, then do the best in history, CUSTARD!! And sod the Frogs.

I live in the UK and have never visited bath, i will one day hopefully. Britain has so many beautiful places, we just need the weather, , if we got loads of sun this island would sink under the weight of tourists. Glad you enjoyed your visit. Next time instead of a bacon sandwich go for the full english breakfast.

Great video guys, one of the best and most 'respectful' of the 'trying English food' ones I've seen. Glad you went to The Raven to try a pie, but not getting why they serve d it on top of the mashed potato, that'll give the pie a 'soggy bottom' for sure, lol. Also glad that at least one of you tried the traditional Cornish Pasty. They usually contain swede too, I'm sure yours did.

Cornish Pasties are shaped as they are because when men were working down the Tin mines in Cornwall they held the pastie by the rim and ate the fat part filled with beef and potato discarding the hard edge they've been holding it with to avoid tin poisoning

cornish pasties, where made for the miners in cornwall they would spend hours under ground so they had to have hearty food. some variation had sweet on one side it was an entire meal in a portable unit.

Greenwood4727 .... The savoury/sweet version of the pasty is actually specific to Bedfordshire where I live. It is known as the Bedfordshire Clanger and is shaped more like a large sausage roll rather than the traditional crescent shape of the Cornish pasty. It has a line of pastry halfway along the inside to separate the savoury filling from the sweet filling.

There was a programme on BBC2 or BBC4 a few years ago about that part of Bath, there's a lot of Masonic symbolism there, symbols on the buildings, the fact that an aerial view of The Circus, Gay St. and Queen Square depicts the shape of a key, there's a lot more to Bath than the usual touristy stuff!

Well done, you picked proper local traditional food and ate it hot on a cold day, just right. We locals usually add some sauce (HP brown or tomato ketchup) to our bacon sandwich... if you wanted an egg or cheese all you had to do was ask. I prefer a sausage or best of all a bacon, egg and sausage sandwich.. British sausages are the best. Next try a bakery for a range of buns (the Bath Bun first) a Chelsea Bun, Custard or cream slice, Caramel shortbread... ask what is their best and they will be pleased as Punch to show you. Then to a real ale pub for a selection of ales (1/2 pint at a time), watch the Vol% alcohol though, some of them are deceptively strong.

Great video. I live in London and it's refreshing to see a video where something other than fish and chips is tried. Great call in the sticky toffee pudding. It looked like a huge portion though which isn't that normal for such a rich dessert. The only criticism I have is that the bacon sandwich was on ciabatta I think which is obviously an Italian bread and not standard. The cafe obviously used that to "posh" it up a bit 😀

No one actually lives in Bath, it's full of people on holiday making videos about British food. British people don't eat that kind of food. At night Bath folds itself up and goes to bed. It doesn't really exist. It's just an invention to keep Americans happy and make them believe we eat pasties, custard and other things. In reality we all go to McDonalds and pray to the Gods of capitalism.

Traditionally we called pudding anything that is steamed with suet, which included both savoury and sweet. For instance black pudding, haggis, steak and kidney pudding on the savoury side and spotted dick, jam rolly polly and sticky toffee pudding on the sweet side though eventually we did start calling desert as pudding as sweet puddings took dominance.

The traditional pasty as you called it is the "Cornish pasty" comes from cornwall. Originally invented by miners who had to figure some way of eating food in a soot filled mine, so they made the pasties with a huge crust that they could hold onto and eat the rest so they dont get there dirty hands all on the food. Great video guys, bath is one of my favourite cities, but I'm probably bias as I am a Bristolian with bathonian relatives. I am a little surprised no one told you to sample the one dish that bath is internationally unique for " Sally Lun, the bath Bun" Definitely one for next time.

I'm late to the party and haven't read back so please forgive if it's all been said! Firstly, I don't necessarily agree with some of the comments re bacon sandwiches,as you make them/order them the way you want! Much of the enjoyment is about the quality, and type of bacon, and how it's cooked! I prefer streaky bacon, and it must be smoked, so that is obviously not everyone's choice! When I see it I will buy ""Oscar Meyers" American bacon which is almost 40% fat, hence the flavour and ability to crisp up! I for one would never put sauce, of any kind on it, and would certainly not butter the bread! So it's a very emotive subject, and we are all different, so that doesn't make anyone right or wrong! With regard to comparing how it is in the US ,with all manner of other things, including egg on it, you don't have to have what you don't want! A cheese and onion pastie is not a "Cornish Pastie"! Obviously they may vary, but the one thing they should all have, is potatoes, carrots, meat (usually beef) and some of the meat stock for flavour and, importantly, plain pastry....not shortcrust, or flakey! A glaring omission is, of course, "Fish & Chips", which as everyone knows, the Brits have three or four times a week!!! The big mistake that visitors make is having them in a pub! They may seem ok, but will certainly have been frozen, and will never be exceptional, so don't judge on that! They need to be from a specialist "Fish & Chip" shop, and even then will vary massively! Whatever else they do they must be fried in "Beef Dripping".... Also they must be eaten straight away, and not wrapped to walk down to the river to eat, as they will steam and lose all of the important crispness! Other than that, take home, and reheat to a sizzle!

Thanks for the comment! We would have tried Fish and Chips but it's just as popular in our part of Canada (east coast) We have it all the time so we wanted to skip that one :) - Trevor

You must try pie mash & liquor next time you hit London. You won't find it anywhere else in the UK, it's a cockney speciality born in the East End. You can expect a minced meat pie with mash potato and a green parsley sauce (liquor). Chilli vinegar is on the table to sprinkle onto the liquor to complete the taste. You can also get jellied eels at the same place but they are very much an acquired taste. You also need to try our puddings such as jam roly-poly with custard, spotted dick with custard or a proper trifle. Nobody does comfort puddings like the Brits.

What often confuses Americans in particular is when they order a cheese/bacon/ ham or w.h.y. sandwich, they get just that two pieces of bread with the subject filling - no compost heap of limp lettuce, cucumber (pickled or otherwise) tomato, etc.

hence it is called the "Royal Crescent" but anyway good vid but you act as though the food is some alien being,it is after all the same staples that you use just cooked in a different manner. We all have famous dishes that we eat but it is the same,I have tasted and tried food across America and it is not that different.
