This makes me feel better. I’m 37 and have spent my entire life with bad teeth painful infections. Extraction after extraction. I’ve finally decided to make the appointment for dentures. I’m tired of never smiling or being self conscious to eat infront of people or talk without my hand infront of my mouth. I’m more or less just scared I won’t be able to talk or eat as normal this gives me hope

I'm getting discouraged. I won't re-type my story so far (it's above) but I'm a few weeks in & I just don't see how this is going to be a better exp. than just eating with my gums (I let my gums heal before putting anything in my mouth). The little success I've had made my favorite foods bland and flavorless. I didn't realize how much taste you get from the roof of your mouth. I feel like I've put in my time, I've been patient, I'm going on 8 months into this process & I've been to 4 readjustments that have done very little to make them hold on top. Any advice or comments I would welcome. Thanks for your stories.

I have perfect teeth now and I don't regret it 1 bit. Good luck ....you'll do fine ....don't be worried or scared to take that first step. One thing.... @@XaYaZaZa Good luck to you both! As the third guy here who had brittle teeth, trust me that you have already dealt with worse pain than anything you will experience during this process. The biggest hurdle will be the handful of days over the next 6 months where you have your "I can't do this moment". Remember that every single one of us had those moments. You just have to remember why you're doing this, and how good you're going to look and feel when it's over. And you will look and feel better than you have since that first tooth cracked. Enjoy your new lives, and try not to beat your younger self up too much for not doing this sooner.

Thank you so much for making this video. I am in the early stages with dentures, only getting them 10 days ago now. It was very discouraging at first to only be able to eat pretty much liquids, seeing all of this delicious food and not be able to even lick it without hurting. But within a week I am feeling a lot better, I can now chop up things like pancakes into small pieces and slowly chew them as well as some pastas like spaghetti. Luckily I have a friend that had to go through this journey about a year ago and she has been very helpful in telling me what she went through and how it may go for me as well. Then watching your video has really given me the encouragement I need to push through the hard first couple months with dentures. It is amazing to see people like you making videos about these things and trying to help others out. Im not sure about anyone else but my dentist did not give any sort of direction or any help at all on what I may go through. They basically did the procedure and let me go to experience and learn everything on my own, so I am extremely thankful for people like you.

I have been thinking of getting dentures rather than countless fillings, crowns, and maybe partial dentures. Main thing was I just wanted a good smile again and be able to eat normally. Due to being hit by a car at 15, I'm 70 now. Over the years all of my upper teeth have been removed. I have three implants. The last Dentist broke one. I'm working with a group that I hope can help me. I have several issues that prevents some procedures to happen . I know I will be without teeth up to six weeks. I listened to your video and you had me excited until you mentioned Adhesive!! I have to use Adhesive now when I want to go out of the house and I hate the fact that it dissolves fast and the taste mixes with my food. Both my parents had false teeth, ate what they wanted and Never used Adhesive. I hope the denture I get in Six weeks will fit really well so I don't need the Adhesive. You would think that dentures would much better in the 21ST century! My Mom had her dentures from the time she was 20. Only problem was her bone growth towards the inside of her mouth. She would occasionally go to the dentist to have her denture saved down so it didn't rub. She even took a sharp knife and scraped the inside of the denture herself. We were poor at that time Ok enough there. Final point is that I Really hope that I DON'T need the Adhesive. One more question What is a soft liner and what is it for? Thanks!

Little over 2 weeks for me. I've been sticking t the positive attitude because like you said- it /is/ already so much better than it was. I can smile again! I had two teeth I could chew with, an upper and lower and that's it. I can drink hot and cold things again! No more pain when drinking anything! The frustration was setting in though. The frustration of needing to take such small bites, of being exhausted from chewing. But your video really helped! I've been craving meat but when I tried some minced meat it felt so odd. And also tender on my gums. But I just need more patience and hearing someone say, it'll get better just be patient... That's exactly what I needed. Thank you so much!

Thanks for making such a great community here. I have had a bad life with my teeth since a young age. Allergies, dry mouth, kool aid and pop in the house, teeth clenching anxiety, sports, open mouth breathing from the allergies, etc. Bad saliva or something too, even with full care and avoidance of sugars in my teens, the allergies got better etc, but they still kept degrading and falling apart. I am suffering from major depression disorder a lot, lately they broke again including a front tooth and I lost my benefits during covid and also had a really bad repair job that have kind of finished a lot of them off. Even the new dentist gives me a hard time and gave me mismatched color repair and said I will need 20,000 to fix my teeth properly, but I don't want to go though any more root canals and the toxic infections they cause, and the further damage caused when they break again and you end up chewing on one with your other good teeth. I have a makeshift smile now which required a post in a front tooth and the one beside it is mostly filling. I need to start an apprenticeship again soon once I get out of this depression and get fit enough to start, and do the interview before I lose my smile again along with my dental plan. I need to save up and will need to find a new place to live also in this new economy so things are a bit tough, but thanks for your community and strength. I already experienced quite a lot of discrimination and misunderstanding and am afraid of the judgement I receive behind my back and wonder why I am alone and depressed. I recently had to wait for 8 months to get my front tooth repaired due to the renewal of benefits and dental schedule and its somehow made my depression so much worse, I also wonder if the root canals I have are producing infection and creating mental health or general health issues as well and just might think about having them all removed or if I can work around the ones that are still good if possible to get full dentures and then maybe posts for them. But if the rest degrade down the road I will probably end up with more complicated work than if I have them all removed I would assume? I need to find a dentist I can talk too as well and who cares instead of judges. Thanks again, wish me luck, and thanks to all the community commenters who make you feel less alone and inspired as well.

I watch videos like this for hope, and encouragement, and I’m really trying to trust the process but I’m nine months in to this and I still don’t have proper fitting dentures. Down to 99.8lbs and have to start all over with step 1 making an entire new set. I haven’t had a real meal in over a year now. This is physically and emotionally the hardest thing I’ve ever done and if this next set doesn’t work, I don’t know what I’ll do. So frustrated. Your bottom denture is likely too long. I had the same problem. I am 1 month in with immediates. You will never "get used to it" if it's too long and intruding on the muscle movement of the tongue skin where it attaches to the jaw bone. My advice is buy a dremmel tool, with tiny grinding attachments, and buffing wheels, and get white buffing rogue. (I do this for a living) Shorten the inner side that extends under the tongue. Buff it out when done. Their just temps. Don't worry about messing up, their already messed up right? Worst thing can happen is you ask for a hard reline (should still be free at this point) If it's too thick, make it thinner. Take your time, small adjustments only. I fully adjusted mine my self. Shortened the inner side of bottoms, thinned then to a very nice smooth transition. Fit great now. Fully adjusted top, edges shortened, and tapered, palate thinned, and shaped for proper speaking. Shortened the back extending too far making me gag. Tapered it to a seamless transition when I swallow. My doctor was so impressed she offered me a job. (I own my business, no thanks). My gums have shrunk a lot now on bottom and time for reline. I ordered my hard reline kit and will be doing that next week. My self. Their your dentures, you own them. Do what you need to do to make them work for you. Use the immediate temps to practice on. The dentures should be adjusted and adapted to you, not the other way around. It IS possible, I know, I am living it every day.

@@starbattles1 when you shortened the back, to prevent the gagging reflex, did you lose any of the suction & fit ? Some say its a trade off, if you shorten the arch plate, it can make them loose. In my view, anything is better than the constant gagging, almost every time you put them in.

@shadowlesswarrior
@shadowlesswarrior Год назад
@@keshawoods56 Yes I have immediate dentures, the bleeding was mostly the first day. My other option was wait about two months after the extractions to give some time to heal, that’s the best thing to do, but spending two months without teeth sounds very though to me I don’t think I could do it, mostly for the eating part like what I was supposed to eat for two months? Things are getting better, I feel like I have to retrain myself all over again, pretty much chopping everything into small pieces and chew very slowly and make sure to secure your dentures before you eat, and if they pop out you can either put more adhesive and finish your meal, or save the meal for later. I also find this thing called Denture Fit I just ordered on Amazon but is supposed hold your dentures for months instead using adhesive every single day. Also look for the video things you should do after dental surgery here on YT is very educational video about dealing with pain and face swelling..
@tsteim
@tsteim Год назад
What is an immediate denture is it different then regular dentures? Is it temporary. I just left the dentist office today in tears and panic cause she said at some point I'll need dentures. She said i would be without teeth for 2 weeks til I get the dentures. Then I read online and that said 3-6 months of a wait. Why didn't she mention having dentures the same day? I mean it makes sense tho cause things shift and are still healing so that's why I ask are same day dentures just temps? Also My horse knocked my front tooth and the tooth next to it out years and years ago and I got a flipper. It's a pain In the ass it never fits snug like she said it should and when I told her she told me to add adhesive. And it really didn't help much. Because of that now I'm really scared that the dentures won't work out for me just like my flipper didn't. It also sucks cause my teeth don't even look bad you wouldn't be able to tell I have cavities on almost all My teeth. But they all need root canals and that would cost me a fortune. Also do they shape the dentures to look like your real teeth. My flipper looks identical to the teeth that got knocked out. Anyways I just wanna know the difference on how some people get immediate dentures and some people have to wait. I was told u have to wait because over time when the healing is done that it can affect your dentures and they won't fit properly anymore
@shadowlesswarrior
@shadowlesswarrior Год назад
@@tsteim Immediate dentures is when they put dentures right after they pull all your teeth, but you have to go back for realignment as needed because the gums swollen and they become loose after the gums healed. According to my dentist that’s what most people do, but apparently it’s better to wait a month or two so the gums can heal and the dentures will fit better, but I can’t even imagine spending two full months without any teeth at all, that sounds very unpleasant to me, what I’m supposed eat for two months, water only? Immediate dentures are very uncomfortable for the first few weeks, but eventually they will get more comfortable. But nothing can compare with your real teeth. I’m considering getting implants, I heard is the best option they feel and look very real, but they’re wildly expensive. I’m trying to figure it out how to finance it. Most dentists offer financing plans and also some dental insurances can help you to reduce the price but still most of the cost is out pocket.
@tsteim
@tsteim Год назад
@@shadowlesswarrior well apparently my insurance covers dentures. But if I lose them or they break then I'd have to pay out of pocket for a new one. So I'm wondering would having to keep relining them cost me. Cause I figure if you get immediate dentures you would have to get them realigned often til everything heals up and the gums stop shrinking. My dentist said 2 weeks she never mentioned 3-6 months or immediate dentures. I think even waiting 2 weeks things would still shift around and I would still need to get the resized anyways. So if that's the case then I'd rather have the immediate ones. I'm just so scared they won't fit properly just like my flipper didn't. Had my flipper fit properly I wouldn't be freaking out about the dentures doing the same thing. I mean it's literally all your teeth not just 2. I'm scared and I'm 31, I think I'm gonna try snap on veneers and keep my real teeth as long as I can because you can't even tell my teeth are messed up with cavities. So I don't wanna pull them out now I'd rather wait until the last minute to do that. Ugh I have very mixed emotions I've heard amazing stories and then nightmare stories about dentures. My insurance covers dentures but they don't cover permanent dentures which is what I'd rather get. 😭 I'd feel a lot better going into this knowing I could get the ones that are permanent and pop into posts. I wish I could find a financial plan for implants like some sort of payment plan but that's rare Idk anywhere that does that. I get cosmetic things insurance don't cover like boob implants lip injections ect. But idk why insurance doesn't cover that for your teeth. I mean teeth are essential to have. I know people get "a free nose job" in some cases because they have problems breathing and shit. Well damn with no teeth or jacked up teeth I have problems eating! It doesn't make sense to me.

My story is a little different. I went to dentist quite often as a kid and had braces into my teens. I could never get my teeth perfect and the way I wanted them into my 40's and 50's. No matter how much I brushed, flossed I always had cavities, or needed a cap after a root canal. It's quite exhausting going to dental appointments every 6 months and spending thousands and thousands of dollars because insurance never really covered the whole expense. Prior to retirement and Covid I went to the dentist and he informed me I would need 2 root canals and 2 caps. Seeing retirement on the horizon I told him just do the root canals and fill the teeth I'm having them all removed. I was finally tired of being in this club that supports dentists kids college educations and I was looking into implants. Best decision I ever made. My mouth was overcrowded as a kid so when I had braces they removed a few teeth so I only had 12 on top and 12 on bottom. It was strange going and having all my lower teeth pulled on 1 visit then 3 months later having all my top teeth pulled but I survived. It took about a year to get my final teeth but it was worth the minor discomfort and inconveniences. Looking back now I should have done this in my 40's and not waited to 60.

Thank you again. This was so informative. This helped a lot. One question can you chew into a thick Italian bread hero with the dentures loosening! I love my hero bread and I hope to be able to eat it again

Just got my permanent dentures today. This was a big help. I was feeling like I’ll never get to eat the way I want again. Thanks for the inspiration. 👏

I'm 27 days in. No relines needed yet. Been using adhesive for a week now. DDS at Affordable Dentures had me wait 3 weeks from eDay. Picking up new things I can eat almost daily now. Biting is getting easier by the day. Perseverance & patience are the key words. Keep my dentures in 10 - 12 hours every day from the beginning. Only adjustment needed so far was to shorten the gum area inside on right side of lower denture because it was digging into floor of mouth a little and was uncomfortable. When it started, I realized one side was longer than the other.

Sounds like you are going well. Reline will be needed soon.

one thing to mention is that the only thing you cannot ever eat again is bubblegum. It sticks to the dentures and leaves a huge mess to try and clean up.

I'm so scared, I'm just beginning my journey! My story is most of my issues were past dental procedures and you know over time fillings and crowns on upper teeth only last so long. The top porcelain crowns broke, leaving me with nub looking teeth, and fillings broke, and in emd result my teeth are broken all over. I already knew, I'd have to have all my teeth removed .. but the whole process scares me. More so getting all my teeth out and going under. I've never done that before. I'm looking forward to the day all the teeth are done being removed. So then my gums can heal for dentures. I know that'll be a journey all its own. Thank you for your videos.

What denture adhesive do you use? I just had mine in the last 3 weeks. Still sore. I'm using Poligrip with no zinc.

I lost all my top teeth playing hockey. Just started the process, and it's been terrible. I was told eating apples and corn on the cob, were out of the window. Thanks for the advice.
