Hey Les, cool videos man! Gotta question, which size rods do you recommend for VS VR50? Currently using Nomad Panderra #20 on a TFO 9ft M Surf Rd, but I keep getting crazy wind knots!!! I had an old Daiwa BG on it but wanted to upgrade reel as I fish the Texas Coast jetties.

The wind knots are most likely coming from the VR50 spool or the way you line is laid. Do you know if your VR50 is an early model or a later generation which they fixed some issues with? 8-9 foot light and medium surf rods are fine for that reel. I like lamiglass surf rods but odm makes some nice ones also if you don’t mind two piece.

@@LesFishingMoreCatching Les, I appreciate the feedback bro. It is a later generation model. I also do not mind the 2-piece as the TFO surf is one as well. Do you think switching it to bail-less helps? I’ve always used Daiwas pretty much all the time. Didn’t want to spend the few hundred more for the vS x2 but thinking now I should have and maybe a 125/150 series,,,,thoughts?

@OG-si9oc I don’t think switching it to Bailess would help. Try another rod and see if that helps but I think the problem lies in the line lay or the spool. I actually stay away from the newer Van Staal reels as they aren’t built like the older VS and VSX models that have a proven design. I had issues with my early model vr50 line always digging into the spool during casting, so I ended up getting a Visser No. 4 instead and that’s been good but also has its pros and cons.
