The fact that here he seems actually not interested in romantic relationships instead of the original "no one is good enough for me", makes him actually possible to like, even if he's ridiculously self absorbed. It can be endearing some of the time, tho he not having a sprite might be easier to like cause him thinking he's hot is funnier than him knowing hes hot and always proclaiming it lol
Character development It’s pretty clear he’s hiding his appearance for a reason. He’s likely hot, but hiding his appearance for his own benefit. How is him thinking he’s hot better than him actually being hot? Ppl hate anyone with confidence lol
@@ma.2089 Well currently this sprite is a generic place holder that should be later replace. Similar thing happened with 1st Hades. But what Supergiant will do with him, we can only argue.
@@ma.2089 in the game actually when you first come across him, he believes that youre another suitor there to try and take his hand in marriage. and the offerings he gives you he says are gifts from others trying to win his favor. so based on in-game dialogue i can imagine his actual appearance will be fully shown
It's actually genius that Echo has the same actress as Melinoe. It's funny that Narcissus saying that with the placeholder coz you can't even see him lol.
It's incredible how they managed to change up the grammar and emphasis enough between sentences that Echo does legitimately seem to be responded despite only repeating what was being said "It's Melinoe! Forget it..." Mel means this as "My name is actually Melinoe - actually you know what, never mind. You're not listening anyway." Frustration with Narcissus turned to resignation. "Melinoe, forget it" Echo means this as "Don't worry about him Melinoe, that's just how he is, it's nothing personal. We really do appreciate all of this" Reassuring Mel and fondly exasperated with Narcissus
I know I was listening to some of these and it's crazy that they've found ways to put so much nuance in just a few words you heard a couple seconds ago
I actually kind of feel bad for Narcissus in this depiction. I mean, it really isn’t /his/ fault people keep falling for him despite him telling them he’s not interested. Not that it’s Echo’s fault either, just kind of unfortunate on both sides. Never thought I’d see a sympathetic depiction of the guy they named Narcissism after.
Than again alot of depictions in Hades area alot kinder and more reasonable these days than old Greek myths were. There is a message that time can allow for growth and reflection on oneself if its what you seek.
The original story is also pretty iffy as it is similar. He gets punished for rejecting some man, by Nemesis, the goddess of vengeance. It's essentially a story of how hubris was considered a sin to the gods. He felt he was "too good" for the love of his suitors, so the gods punished him. Framing it in a modern perspective, imagine if a woman was punished like this for rejecting a lot of guys or not wanting a relationship?
I think it’s because he’s just… he comes across as only having a single brain cell (and that brain cell says “I’m beautiful”) The Nic Cage-esque voice really adds to his characterization. He sounds like someone trying to sound ✨cool ✨
And also theseus has a grudge on zagreus because before the hades 1 got started he was the protagonist but the the ceo changed him for zag and thus he has an ego
I feel like I'm the only one who really liked Theseus lol. He was one of the funniest characters in Hades and it was genuinely a joy to see and hear him bring some levity to the game.
Based on the epithet under his name, i have half a mind to think that narcissus would just be a narcissus flower/so covered in the flowers that you can't actually see his appearance
In the original hymn in the Metamorphoses, Ovid describes that when she wasted away her bones turned into stone! That's probably the inspiration for her design.
