Great review however, from someone who has one of these, Deebot X1 Omni take note that the mopping feature is great if you only have one floor to do. Since the robot goes back to its station to clean the mop and then continue its session (I think it does this after 15min) you will not be able to do that on another floor unless you have another station. So basically you have to bring the robot back to the floor where you have the station for it to clean the mops. Then you have to get the robot to exit the station and bring it back to the floor it was on and resume cleaning. Only problem is it wont remember where it was so it will do areas it already did. It’s not like when the there is a low battery and it goes to charge and then resume where it left off. Something to consider.
I would be so friggin lost without your video's James. Thank you for filling the gaping hole that Ecovacs made when they provide a product with lack of instructions that you have provided. You should be compensated for all of your work and time. I have been able to divide some areas on the completed map that my N8 Pro+ made but one area is giving me fits. When I try to divide it it continues to give me a message "Please divide only the selected area." The area I select is all the same color so...WHAT DO YOU THINK I AM DOING WRONG?
First off. Thank you! I am so glad this helped you. As far as dividing, it can sometimes be tricky. One solid rule however, is you cannot divide from another divide line, it has to be 2 walls. You want the line solid not dashed. Other than that, you just have to be persistent. There have been a couple I couldn’t create but most the time eventually I’ll get it to work. Making the rooms smaller can sometimes help. And one time you map, it may give you trouble, then the next time it works no problem. 🤷🏻♂️ Good Luck!

Thank you, I’m glad you find them useful. Sometimes unfortunately it’s a real pain to divide rooms, rarely have I not eventually made it happen but it can take some trying. Sometimes making the room smaller helps. One hard rule is that you cannot divide a room from a previous divide. It has to be 2 walls. And the line needs to be solid, not dashed. If you can’t divide anything anywhere, and areas that should be open are solid, you may want to consider remapping. I did that once and it was 100% better. I’ll admit the program needs some major improvements in this area. I’ve been lucky lately and haven’t had any problems. Knock knock.
Fantastic video! Do you find that the Robt struggles with medium/dark grey carpets ? E.g. fall detection sensors playing up thinking the robot is going to fall off a "cliff"? Thank you
How do you switch between mopping and cleaning? It seems like every time I put the water container the deebot switches to mopping mode and idk how to switch it back to cleaning
You can also just remove the water tank if the mopping plate is attached. This will also disable mopping mode as you’ve noticed. There is no real reason the water tank has to be in to vacuum.
Hello Sir, many thanks for a terrific job that ECOVACS should have done, the App in French has at the beginning a different opening sequence where we cannot see that : one has to first Register. I wasted 24 stressful hours over that only. Besides there are across the App some language mistakes (for exemple in the control panel the ON & OFF are just the opposite). Your video is a great help for my brand new N8 PRO. Cheers from France.

Are you only able to adjust the settings if the vacuum is running? I can’t get to any app settings unless I enter smart cleaning. Seems stupid to force the user to start the vacuum if you’re just trying to view and edit different settings.
I have N8. Could not get the robot to complete mapping. Moved charger to the center of the house but still had problems. I have tried to Factory Reset. I removed the app from my phone, followed reset info but after I reinstalled the app it is still connected to the previous details. I am at a loss!
USERS: BEFORE YOU BEGIN MAPPING FOR THE FIRST TIME. Written by James F Laurie If you have a vacuum with navigation and you have the following settings on your vacuum, before you start mapping, be sure Advanced Mode, Continuous Cleaning & Multi-floor Maps are turned on. (Multi-floor maps is available after the first map is created) Multi-Floor Maps is accessed from an icon at the bottom left of the map page that looks like two pages and a pencil. For some reason these options are turned off by default. You will want them on! I have no idea why these are off by default. I can’t think of a reason you would not want them on. The newer T9 screens may differ & some older models won’t have all these features. First off you will want to find a good location for your charging dock or Auto Empty Dustbin. Per Ecovacs instructions: Note: The distances is recommended but not always required. “Place the Charging Dock on a level floor surface against the wall with the base perpendicular to the ground. Keep the immediate area 1.5m (5’) in front of the charger and 0.5m (1.6’) on both sides of the charger clear of objects and reflective surfaces.” If you are planning on using your mopping feature, you will definitely NOT want the dock on the carpet. The vacuum, by design, will NOT run on carpet, while in mopping mode. The mopping mode is enabled when the mopping plate is installed. It’s should be obvious, but no mopping while mapping. BE SURE ALL THE DOORS TO THE ROOMS YOU WANT TO MAP, STAY OPEN THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE PROCESS. The vacuum will very likely want to avoid or not like very dark flooring, due to the drop sensors. (This can be resolved, if you don’t have a legitimate reason for your drop sensors such as stairs, by covering your drop sensors with solid tape. (More information can be provided if needed.) Also floor level mirrors or reflections can interfere with a clean map, think about how you can try to avoid them, if possible, they possibly can also cause issues later during vacuuming. I have a suggestion if your interested. If it maps with a mirror it will look strange because it will show a room where there is not one, this usually does not cause a problem when vacuuming because it can’t go there anyway. Charge to 100%! I would highly recommend mapping in QUIET mode to conserve your battery and for other reasons, it uses a lot less battery, at least if you have a large home, to keep the vacuum from needing to recharge during the process. You’ll thank me later. The T8 and later models you turn on quite mode by going into Cleaning Preferences at the bottom left and disable Cleaning Preferences and the select the fan with the line through it. On 950 and older models there should be a Quiet mode in the Vacuum Power settings in the menu. Disable Auto-Boost Suction to keep it from increasing suction on carpet. Note: If at all possible, it’s preferable to have no interference with the vacuum while mapping, so pick up or block anything or area that you think may interfere with the mapping. You will have the No-Go lines to control where your vacuum goes, after you have mapped. So hands off the vacuum , if possible, while mapping. Note: The map will only be saved when the vacuum docks back in the charger by itself. Ignore any unusual paths it may take during mapping. It may not make sense, but appparently it has a plan, just be patient and wait until it is completely finished. You will not see that strange behavior during vacuuming. After mapping is complete go ahead, only after you have completed your room merge and division, press the save button in multi floor mapping 💾 (looks like 3.5 floppy disk). The save button will disappear once your map is saved. And it will show above your map as saved If when it’s done and you don’t have a map in the multi floor area page or the Area section, you also won’t have a save button, what that is telling me is that for some reason your map is not completed. Most of the time it completes on the first run, but periodically, it may take another run, this has happened to me a couple of times, and the way I fixed it was just run another Auto Clean. Your videos are very helpful, thank you. Do you have a video or part explaining the mopping? I may have missed it. I have a n8+ pro. Couole questions I had. Do you leave the water and mop pad 24/7? I program times for mop and vacuum separately correct? Or can it do it simultaneously? Also, can I add vinegar or something to help clean the floor better? When only using water, does it steam or basically just wipes off stains? Thanks again!
I am very glad it was helpful. To answer you question. Not any more about multi-floor mopping except at time code 14:25. You can program it either way. There is no right or wrong way. It is advertises to be able to do both at the same time. Unless you have carpet, then the mop will not travel over the carpet. The only thing is if you leave the mop on, is that the flooring can handle the constant moisture. Of course your going to want to rinse, wash or replace the mop and you will need to add water periodically. It is not recommended by the manufacturer to add anything, but many people do. I would imagine vinegar would be the safest to not stopping up the tubes. It does not steam, it is basically just a wet wipe. I hope this helps.

When in the "scheduling" menu, is there a way to make it 12 hour type, like AM/PM? Mines only shows the 24 hour format. It's not a huge deal but is very annoying. I much prefer it to be 12 hour. This should hopefully help fix the main issues people are complaining about with the vacuum (i.e. maps not saving). I think the key point here is completing a full map on ONE charge. Once you’re past that, it should be good. (NOTE: This is just from my research, I don’t even have this vacuum yet, lol). 7:05 - Ok, that’s scary, even you got lots of those ambiguous “Please check driving wheel” error messages. I don’t have this robot (yet) but have been researching and found others complaining about this. What’s up with that? What does the message mean and how do you figure it out (if indeed it really is a “catch all” ambiguous error)?

I need help My Deebot is the 950 and after it finished the house mapping it said 'restoring map' and after that it didn't save. it says I have to save the map, and videos say that the Robot will do it, itself but it hasn't.
@@Hotsparks66 I did that and it is still not working, it has happened multiple times now. And just now when I started the Deebot again it said 'new environment discovered' and the map deleted.

I still find the app really confusing. I would have found this particular tutorial more helpful if the presenter would have shown where the settings actually are and tapped them real time. My particular app doesn't have a "multi-format" or if it does, no amount of searching around in the app helped me find it. I love the Ecovacs vacuum but the app is HORRIBLE.
I just spent several days with this robot vac, bought 2 of them on sale in Costco and I am glad I did. After several frustrating days with the maps and trying to figure out why it would not go on certain area rugs in my home, I finally contacted customer service. I am still in disbelief that this advanced AI T8+ cannot vacuum carpets with a black border and a black background. Kept giving me off the floor errors and customer service told me yep the only fix is to build a virtual barrier around the carpet and they were serious. I asked what good is a vacuum if it can't vacuum my area rugs? They just read a script about building virtual barriers. seriously? No fix for black borders or they told me very dark to black wood floors as well. I guess the "advanced laser" isn't so advanced after all. Glad I bought them at Costco because they will take them back no questions asked. Byers Beware.
Usually problems with black is caused by the drop sensors getting confused. You can try covering the drop sensors with solid tape to see if that help. Note: Don’t use white tape. I prefer painters tape. It can be removed easily and doesn’t leave sticky residue.
It did work thank you. I am deciding if I like this ore than the Robot J8+ which was easy to map and is working flawlessly. I like the fact the T8 mops so now that the problem of back carpet is solved I will have to work on the T8 mapping which is roving frustrating. Note: The T9 & the newer X1 & T10 series, some option and controls have changed, but the basic concept is the same If you have a vacuum with navigation and you have the following settings on your vacuum, before you start mapping, on N8 and older models be sure Continuous Cleaning also called Resumed Clean, and Advanced Mode are enabled. For some reason these options were turned off by default. You will want them on! The T9 and newer vacuum screens will differ and not have all these settings & some older models won’t have all these features. DOCK LOCATION First off you will want to find a good location for your Charging Dock or Auto Empty Dustbin. If you have a very large floor plan, you will likely want to select a central location, the vacuum very likely has a distance limitation. It’s been reported to me that you may be looking at a 20 meter distance limitation. Note: The distances are recommendations, but not always required. Per Ecovacs instructions: “Place the Charging Dock on a level floor surface against the wall with the base perpendicular to the ground. It will also keep your vacuum dust bin from becoming overly stuffed, since your doing your whole house for the first time in one run. The N8, T8 and later models you turn on quite mode by going into Cleaning Preferences at the bottom left and disable Cleaning Preferences and the select the fan with the line through it. On 950 and older models there should be a Quiet mode in the Vacuum Power settings in the menu. On model like the T10 they went back to using “Quiet” on setting. Something that caught me by surprise on the first and only time I mapped with a T10. It wasn’t until I backed out of the app and restarted, was I able to see the mapping progress. So don’t panic. Disable Auto-Boost Suction to keep it from increasing suction on carpet. I am thinking about keeping the T8 as a mop, the mapping is just too frustrating. It has a mind of its own and doesn't really go where I want it. Also it will not recognize my master bath as a separate room. The IRobot J8 mapping is much easier and it performs flawlessly Appreciate your help I don't think I would have gotten this far without it.@@Hotsparks66
Thanks for the video. @ 2:22 when it says clean 1x or 2x. Does that mean once/twice per day or that it'll clean whatever area its set to clean, that it'll clean that specific area once/twice in that one cleaning?
That’s your option. For whatever room you select at anytime of your choosing, you select weather you want to cover the room once or twice. You can change it on a per cleaning basis, however if Cleaning Preference is enabled it will do as programmed every time. Just turn off cleaning preferences if you want to change it for one job. I hope that makes sense.
@@Hotsparks66 I think so. I just got this robot so I'm still not too fluid with it. I had it at 2x but the area it covers usually doesn't finish it all in 1 cycle. (Around 670 sqft) So it has to to charge to finish, throwing off the other scheduled cleanings. I'd like to have it go 4 times per day so I'll try with 1x. It should be enough juice to run each cycle with 1 charge. Hopefully it leaves the floor clean like it was before. We'll see. Still haven't tried the mop yet 😬 thanks for the tips!
The T8s has considerably longer charge than the N8s. The N8-3200mah 110min the T8 5200mah 3+ hrs. The N8 supposedly has more suction but I cannot tell. The N8 Pro is more comparable in features than the N8.
Hey so I finally connected my mop attachment on the n8pro+.. so it Vacuums and mops simultaneously right? You can't do a map on only mopping and one for only vac or am I not finding the proper setting.
There is only one map per floor. You map everything. You add the mopping plate if you want to do both. The only caveat is with the mopping plate attached it will not travel on carpet, by design. You cannot mop without the vacuum running, however if desired you can turn the vacuum suction to its lowest setting. I hope this answers your question.

I had to use Google translator to read your post. The only suggestion I can think of is to place the base when mapping and the vacuum in a different location on each floor so they are seeing different views.
I don’t know if is a bug … I change language from Italian to German and now If I try to change back to Italian stays still with German…. Should I reset the factory settings?
That most likely mess up your map. Your options would be a ramp, or map the step down as your second floor. If you’ve already mapped & saved both your floors, you can run the vacuum in the stepped down area just you won’t be able to save the 3rd map.
MULTI-FLOOR MAPPING Written by Jacob Vaynshteyn You can fully map up to two floors. When you have one normal map saved, take the dock and robot to second floor. (You have the option of purchasing a separate dock to leave on the second floor) Put robot on dock. You need to hear “I’m starting to charge” and then something about how it had detected changes to the environment. In the app it should Not be showing the first map. You should see a blank floor. Then let it clean on auto. If it doesn’t give the messages take robot off dock turn it off and then back on then put on dock wait for messages. It may take a few tries to get the message about detecting a new environment. If you don’t hear “I’m starting to charge” check your power cable at the wall and also on the back of the dock. After mapping for both floors is complete and saved, it’s recommended to move the dock to the floor you intend to clean to make sure the robot is started in the exact same spot every time. This will help it figure out which floor it’s on. Also, by moving the dock, it enables you to hear “I’m starting to charge” snd the other message about seeing a change in the environment. It is however possible to move the robot without moving the dock if necessary.

Not sure where your seeing the ratings. I’m not going to say it’s perfect by any means. And yes there is room for improvement. But with the technology it’s using is rather new for this type of application. Personally I have little trouble with the functionality of the app outside a few quirks that are easy to overcome. Many people use this app without complaints.
